4) Frams. Hassenpfeffer. Sauerbraten. Weisswurst. Leberkasse. And three (count 'em!) others that I can't remember the names of. Plus spaetzel, sweet & sour red cabbage, Warsteiner, apfelcorn, and chocolate cake (not German.)
sounds wonderful. my guess is that you also had boar, duck and veal. i love spaetzel. there's a tool for making it perfectly that sells for dirt cheap auf der vaterland.
No duck, sadly.
a shame really. duck is so damned german.
i love duck
i was so happy that i got to have duck with sqush on the plane 2 years back....

Yes. I heart duck. Etc.
about geese?
i know this great shop in chinatown....
they are much more leaner...
peking duck is good..but only for winter cause its so fatty

goose
i love goose
very german
chestnut stuffing
gravy
roast potatoes
boy, i need to let loose this evening and get drunk!
chestnut stuffing? german...man you need to take me out...
havnet had german food at all..ever!
gravy..makes me sick..i went to my first thanksgiving meal last year at my sister's (she's infintely more whitewashed than i am) and made the gravy for her..god it made me sick

my family heritage is german
war criminals and stuff
all very hush hush
still, i grew up on the food
the culture and the beer!
you have never tried frammy's fool proof gravy, now have you?
hush hush...you ahve to tell me about it one day
no...you can try mailing me a tub....well not a tub..a sample i mean
i hardly touch meat...
i told my mom that i ate an entire year's worth of pork in 2 weeks (she makes pork dishes a lot..and i hav enothing to eat...i usually only eat pork like once bimonthy)

i don't know if german food via the mails would survive an inspection from canadian customs officials. *wink*
pork is the mainstay of the german table.
we eat tons of it.
sadly, i have encountered just how pigs are slaughtered and i am disgusted.
they are extremely intelligent animals.
goddamned shame they taste so good.
yeah we cdns and our borders
but really..cooked meats should be fine..RAW is a big nono
i would know..my mom tries to bring stuff from taiwan all the time
she even boiled pineapples (they are so sugarery..that it doesnt taste like pineapples..but just syrup) to bring them here...
that's the same with salmon
my sister and my mom cant stand salmon (sashimi form) anymore because they went to a salmon farm..dammit they are SO good
salmon belly sashimi..literally melts in your mouth
i know a couple of places...whenever you're in toronto..give me a shout and i'll take you

oh funny thing..
i only like pork when its plain...meaning boiled....as in in a soup...or boiled..and dip in special soy sauce (thicker..not the watery ones)

i love dumplings. any and all kinds, except maybe offal dumplings. i've never had, for example, chicken liver dumplings. although i might not know what i am missing.
salmon, on the other hand, is always good and desireable. i have never been to toronto.
pineapple? boiled? hmmm.
i never had western styled dumplings until i finally had perogies last year. it was good..too much starch though
if you like dumplings...chinese style..there's a place acutally called dumpling house..and they have all sorts of dumplings (lamb..!??)hand made daily...fresh..and dirt cheap too...like a plate of 12 dumplings for like 4 bucks cdn
salmon is so so good...come to toronto and i'll take ya
yeah the pineapple thing was weird..but really its' like eating candy..there's still a bag of it in the freezer

The cover I have in mind shows a girl trying to use male urinals apparently. Can't spot the connection. Unless...

a cheery quote about getting old-
"Yes, a man in the nineteenth century must and morally ought to be pre-eminently a characterless creature; a man of character, an active man is pre-eminently a limited creature. That is my conviction of forty years. I am forty years old now, and you know forty years is a whole lifetime; you know it is extreme old age. To live longer than forty years is bad manners, is vulgar, immoral. Who does live beyond forty? Answer that, sincerely and honestly I will tell you who do: fools and worthless fellows."
-Dostoyevsky

Whoa... so much to respond to...
1) Lupus. No, I was thinking about the controversial cover of 'Head Games' by Foreigner. Sorry for any misunderstanding.
2) Brock. Listened to BOC all night on my back porch as I slgged champagne straight from the magnum. Yes, Joan Crawford has risen from the grave. It seemed perfectly apropriate for a hot summer night.
3) Crystal Kitty Beth. I love that song. Oddly, it is by Cheap Trick. But I thank you for the dedication. Strange you should think of it at this moment, as I bought my first CT record (yes, 'record') and my first BOC record at the same time. We were just talking about that last night.
4) Frams. Hassenpfeffer. Sauerbraten. Weisswurst. Leberkasse. And three (count 'em!) others that I can't remember the names of. Plus spaetzel, sweet & sour red cabbage, Warsteiner, apfelcorn, and chocolate cake (not German.)
