Identify if it is Iphone or Android...then give us your favorite apps and why.

Are they free?

Android:
PDAnet-(they have a free version and paid) I love it because I can tether my Mac without paying a dime for access.

iMusic Tao-(free and paid) grab any tune you want for free.

PicSayPro- (free and paid) handy photo editing tool. Fun and useful!

More to come.

Why are our only options iPhone or Android? Isn't a Blackberry a smartphone?

I have a Blackberry Curve 8330

My favorite apps:

Mobipocket Reader - converts pdf's into files that you can read on your phone. Saves your spot. Makes reading books easy - and you have to carry nothing but your phone.

Amazon App - I'm addicted to amazon. But this is also handy when you're in a store and can't decide which of something to buy. Look everything up on amazon and read the reviews. This recently because really helpful for me when I wanted to buy an external harddrive. Good thing I had it though because if I went with instincts, I would have ended up with the worst one there.

Poynt - It's a really quick Phone Directory recommending things by how close they are to your position. It does a lot more than that too. It has a movie section, recommending the closest movie place with listings and times. More too... I just don't use anything else. lol

Pandora - I don't think I need to describe this one. But it's my favorite.

My favorite Android Apps:

  • Klaxon - Nothing too special. It's an alarm clock that plays music for your alarm and lets you flip over your phone for snooze. Roughly $2
  • Astro - A filebrowser
  • Tweetcaster - Twitter app. There is a free and a paid version. It is good so I bought the paid version to support the developers. $5
  • Devilry Huntress - Game. Kind of like Puzzle Quest, only with a little simpler game play. $3
  • AndFTP - FTP Client. Free.
  • ACV - Reads the common .cbr and .cbz comic book files. Free.
  • ConnectBot - SSH Terminal. Free.
  • Google Sky Map - Aim your phone at the sky and identify the stars and plants. Really cool for astronomy fans. Fee.
  • tCallBlocking Lite - Calls from blocked phone numbers are blocked. Free.

from one blackberry user to another, Thank you.

I use Pandora, UberTwitter, Facebook, and Weatherbug on my BB. But I could live without the Weatherbug. it sort of sucks. I need a good navigational App. iPhones get One Bus Away, and it is so awesome. But there's nothing like that for BBs.

My BB came with a pretty good one that's made by Sprint. It's just like a real GPS for a car. It talks and has the road going in real time. I don't think you can buy it though and that's why I didn't list it. It's probably my most used app.

Mricpx - I wish they had an IMDB app for BlackBerry. I am constantly looking stuff up on there. I too always need to know movie related stuff. I'm always like - fuck I know I just saw a movie with that person. Who is he/she?

I have a BB Curve 8330 and I use:

  • Facebook
  • all the iGoogle stuff (I use Gmail, Maps, Weather and News the most)
  • mobile banking (very, very handy)
  • Tetris
  • Photobucket Mobile

And of course everything else that's fully integrated with work (Outlook email, calendar, docs, etc.).

I wish I could use some sort of Pidgin app, but since I can't, I use BB Messenger (mostly with my ex-hubby since he has a BB too, and co-workers), G-Talk, Windows Messenger and Yahoo IM.

I tried Opera Mini and couldn't stand it so I uninstalled it pretty quickly and now I stick with the BB Browser. I like making my own themes, so I use Plazmic Theme Builder a lot and then just sync it up.

Oh! They're all free except for Tetris, for which I paid $5 for a lifetime license.

My friend has this app on his iPhone, which sounds rather great but too good to be true. Apparently, you put your phone on your bed when you sleep, and going on your movements in the night it figures out your sleep cycle. You a range during which you want your alarm to wake you, and it figures out when you'll be in the lightest stage of sleep within that range and wakes you then. My friend swears by it, but I struggle to see how it would work.

I just got an HTC Evo and it's my first droid phone. I just wanted to bump this thread so we can discuss apps again. I'm a little overwhelmed with how many there are available for the droids.

You're overwhelmed?

I'm getting the iPhone 4 on Thursday and I have no idea where to even start with all the apps available for it....

I like things that help with my life. Organizational stuff.

I also would like a bill program. Or a money organizing program.

And a good password keeper. I downloaded one, but I'm still afraid to put info in it yet.

I really wish I could find an easy to use app like Blackberry's Poynt. It's like the yellow pages, but with reviews, easy connect to directions and maps, and movie listings.

I was pretty busy when I posted that yesterday. Today I'm not so busy at work so I was going to read some of the recommendations in here.

Oh, another app I really loved on my blackberry was the mobipocket reader. But they don't support android.

It could take a pdf file and convert it to a "reader" file that worked with the program. You could store books and stuff to read. I used that one a lot for when I was stuck somewhere waiting.

You can use Yelp and "Movies" for what you're describing, I think. Also, learn to use layers and Google Maps. That already does most of the review and directions stuff you're talking about. When I was in San Francisco, I basically lived off Google Maps to find cool stuff and then get there easily.

I use LastPast.com for my paswords. It is awesome and I suggest everyone use it. They have an Android app, but frankly, I think their mobile site is better designed than the app, so I uninstalled it.

Mint has an android app that integrates with your Mint.com account. Should be good for financial stuff. Plus, Mint is a well known name, so you can feel somewhat comfortable trusting them with your financial info.

Never heard of this mobipocket thing, but is there a reason you wouldn't just read the pdf on your phone? Instead of some other format...

Most of my other organizational stuff is covered by the Google products: Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Reader

Springpad is a pretty decent app for random notes though. Might be worth looking into.

I really like Mint.com alot. Thanks Kirk. Although it was a little scary giving them so much information. But this is pretty much exactly what I was looking for on the finance department.

What does QR mean?

This is a QR code. I was happy they included it on their page, a lot of companies forget to include one. Makes it way easier to find the stuff you want.

Oh yeah for sure! I actually used that when I downloaded the app. It does make it super easy.
