Xbox 360
People have gotten ahold of some pictures for it. They say the pics are official. (?)

The graphics looks excellent, but Im not sure if thats a movie still or an actual in-game pic.
Im not at all impressed with the white controller. Looks incredibly uncomfortable.
For those of you who have played Our Colony Cap New Image New Images
This is bullshit. Haha, As if the Xbox isnt big enough. They know that. Thats why thats a fake pic.
When deciding to get the original Xbox, I went into the store then walked out after I realised how monstrous it was, I didnt buy it. Then Fable came out, so I got it.
Heres a pic of their original concept, which I like better. Why the hell theyre going with the colour white boggles the shit outta me.
There is a lot of cool concept pics for the XBox 360, some better than what theyre supposedly going with...
Well, I dont believe Im going to get the new XBox, unless....MAYBE if they do what they had done when they came out with the Halo XBox, turn yours in for X amount of dollars towards the new.

I just got an XBox (finally) since I've always had a roommate with one, but this looks cool enough.
I prolly wait till I can get it a bit cheaper though, you know me...
I think that monster XBox would be cool, even though it is ridiculously big.

The BBC has an article on this system here. I'm impressed by the hardware specs on it, but I doubt I'll buy it, considering I can't remember the last time I turned on my Gamecube.
Sony's PlayStation 2 can be found in more than 80 million homes across the world. Microsoft has sold 13.2 million Xboxes in the US and 19.9 million worldwide, while Nintendo is in third place with about 20 million GameCubes worldwide, and around 10 million in North America.
This surprised me. I knew Sony was the leader in this market, but that's quite a margin. I honestly hope Nintendo's new offering next year is cool, it'd be nice to see a cool new platform for their classic games.

That is why I think they're only in third. I have a strong feeling a majority of the Gamecube owners are about our age or older, those who've been around since the NES days. While I like that niche, there's quite a bit of new stuff going on that Nintendo isn't latching on to, and I think that's killing them. But, Gameboy continues to beat out the handheld competition, at least so far. We'll see how the P2P does.

From working in retail for 3 years, PS2 easily kills the X-Box in sales. So many people owned a PS1 that the 'upgrade' seemed easy. And for families buying a system, the PS2 has more of an array of games, where most of the big titles for X-Box are first-person shooters, and parents develop that contradictory sense of morals when it comes to video games, and they end up choosing the PS2.
As I've said in other threads, I've had all three at seperate times, and PS2 is still far and away my favorite. XBox is more geered for online play. I've got a computer for that...
Did watch the MTV preview of XBox 360 last night and I wasn't a)impressed at all with the show b)blown away from the new XBox. The totally wireless concept is pretty sweet, but other than that, the games they previewed for the most part looked completely stupid. (Need for Speed, Madden, and Tiger Woods looked sweet). Has anyone seen any price points yet for this? If it's anything more than $300 they are asking way too much.

I think the Gamecube observation was true in the beginning, but any sales now are more the families buying a "family friendly" system seeing that the majority of their big releases are kid games.
But Nintendo makes enough off of their Gameboy line where they can afford to lack in other areas...
I was pissed off by that MTV preview bullshit. They barely showed any gameplay. I didn't get a good look at the system itself or it's controllers.
Then they had the nerve to show Wilmer Valderama have fun playing the game and barely show any footage of the game.
And of course they had to bring in the annoying female gamer who is rather assholish and calls everyone "bitch" just to show that she's a tough "grrl gamer".
To the point: I hated it.

I was in EB today and I talked to the guy working at the counter. According it his computer, the early retail price of the XBox 360 is $499.
That is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for that.
it's too soon for another one. the xbox is fine as it is. assholes taking our money. well...not MY money.
The PS2 also came out a year before the XBOX which is what Microsoft is trying to correct by coming out first this time around. However, I hear that the PS3 is going to be significantly more powerful than the XBOX 360. Sounds like they've flipped philosophies to some degree.

you do another system quickly so you can maintain the old audience.
if you ask me though the ps3 shows a lot more in the way of promise and power. and as usual will be reverse compatable with older games, hardware.
xbox did one thing right, online. they floundered though in making many decent games for the feature though. everyone on live is either playing rainbow six or halo. im not kidding. TWO games! for all the money dropped into the whole network idea.. TWO games. and if you ask me halo is over-rated this time out.
the game they showed last night looked like halo with a better engine. calling it perfect dark means nothing if its not as good or better than the N64 title. and that has yet to be done by anyone on any system.
playstation is learning from ists only shortfalling with xbox, which is a beefy multiplayer environment online. my money says look for a cheaper system from sony. ($500 bucks for a system is outlandish) [my entire computer cost me less]

in some cases, yes.
im of the mindset that they (sony) makes better games. (excepting splinter cell maybe) so the the graphics isnt too much of an issue to me.
Sony's other major shortfalling vs. XBOX is graphics.
i wouldn't say that's true...
the only shortfall i see of ps2 vs. xbox for sony is the long loading time. the graphics, i think, or the gameplay is a lot better on most ps2 games, at least sports games, than they are on xbox. and, the controller for ps2 is far and away the best.
the whole sony jumped the market so that's why they are more popular isn't neccesarily accurate. actually, dreamcast jumped all three of them and look where that ended up. that actually wasn't a bad system. sony was smart and made everything completely user friendly. you didn't need to spend extra to make it a dvd player, and although neither of them are 'great' dvd players, that was/is a major selling point from having sold them. and sony developed and put out a lot more games. xbox spent a lot of time/energy/money on a couple games which helped them develop the hardcore fan basis for those games, but didn't do much for people who weren't interested in that genre. perfect dark is just another extension of that genre. sure, it looks pretty cool, just like the one on n64 did back in the day. but again, if that genre isn't your thing, or if online isn't you thing, there really is no reason to buy an xbox, new or old.
ps2 definetely has flaws. hopefully they will iron them out by ps3. but who knows. i think this whole debate is pretty much a mute point if the price point is $500, or anything close to that. $300 was a big pilll to swallow for a lot of people. i know that xbox lost money selling them at $300 up front because it cost them more to produce them. who knows.
the one thing i'll guess for sure is that nintendo will drop the ball again, and develop another whole extension line of kiddy games that were cool when you were eight. they should just quit and start developing for the other systems like sega did.

I didn't mean that it was the only reason, but it helped. The first one out of the gate rarely is the winner with a tech innovation... but, as you point out, Sony was second. And I agree with the other above points. There were a lot of games I wish I could have played had I a PS2.

I'll say this is likely as well. Nintendo's main issue, in my opinion, is they are still making their hardware and games for a particularly Japanese audience, whereas Sony has gone far more global.

I bought a xbox and a ps2 and tried both madden and ncaa football for both. ps2, at least in my eyes, killed them both hands down in terms of gameplay. for some reason, the engines for the xbox games seem to pause more frequently. and the graphics, i couldn't tell a difference--aside from sound--at all.
justin. for the ps2 vs xbox graphic debate it only comes down to games that push the ps2 a little thin. but the graphics arent too big of a thing as most games right now dont push the ps too hard
a lot of people complain that rainbow six sux for the ps, you cant break windows, ect but so far thats the only valid point ive heard

Eh the PS2 graphics are awful. Trust me, after switching to Xbox i saw how awful it is, after not seeing them in a while.
The main reason PS2 became king was because it allowed you to play ps1 games. All the other consoles didn't have that, and it was a big library of games.
The DVD really wasn't that much of an issue because the DVD player is crappy in comparison to the X-box.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
I just read that 360 is also going to be backwards compatible, so that's something anyway seeing as my XBox is currently busted.

I am pissed at the whole fucking whiteness of it, the stupid controller they changed the buttons, and the overall design.
Granted they are no longer making a console gaming system, and it is something else, but the black looked so good.
However the specs of the damn thing is just monstrous. If the PS3 doesn't come nearly as powerful I can see how this one will beat it easily in a year or two, and hopefully all the good games and the stupid "exclusive" licenses be a thing of the past.
I am sure the PS3 won't be able to compete with the wireless controllers, WIFI and just plain brutality of the CPU and detachable (and upgradeable) Hard Drive.
I just hope they can finally get some good games, and more computer games into this system.

I never liked them either, but they are big in Japan, which Microsoft is trying hard to crack. The design of the actual console itself was done with the Japanese market primarily in mind as they didn't care for the "black American beast" that was the original.

i wouldnt think they would either. but they dont have a whole lot of a hold on the "american" market. the xbox's one real strong point is their FPS market. which isnt even that good. ive always told people who were looking to buy one of the three consoles this time out: the playstation has a huge selection, something for everyone kinda thing. lots of puzzle games (like ico) the gamecube is really pretty cool, but is limited, very limited, in comparison to the other two. the xbox looks the best, if thats what you want. but its mostly pc-style shooters and sports games.

They have a decent share in America and that's due to XBox live more the the FPS's. That's where they looked ahead and went right. We'll see, I think apps will be the most important thing, both now and in the future when the entertainemnt center/computer becomes the hub of your cyberspace experience. What hardware people use will be less important and Gates always seemed to have know that. This XBox is designed to get Longhorn into as many homes as possible doing as many tasks as possible. The gaming aspect, in my opinion, is just the carrot.

I had an Xbox after the PS2, and after I went back to the PS2 it wasn't even a contest, the PS2 just had way more that I liked for my sports games than the XBox did, including what I felt were 'better' graphics.
As I said before, from working in retail, having attended sales conferences on both this shit, and even an E3, PS2 was supreme because it offered more. The DVD player add on wasn't at a $30 extra charge (which was a big deal when it came out because most families who bought them didn't have DVD players). The games ranged all spectrums to include titles for young and old, boys and girls. They had the exclusive license rights for two of the biggest franchises (GTA & Final Fantasy), and the controller was more user friendly as it was one that people already had dealt with. The allowance of using older games was also a key. But it wasn't the main selling point.
The DVD players in both systems were equally flawed. The fan in the XBox actually burns out quicker also, although both systems were flawed in that regard.
It'll be interesting to see how both next generation systems do in the new marketplace. Price point and game licenses are two of the biggest keys. If one system gets exclusive game rights over the other for those titles like GTA, FF, or especially the sports ones like Madden, that will swing the pendulum hugely in their favor. Halo, as big as the game is, isn't going to make anyone who isn't a fan of FPS's buy a system, just like Mario isn't going to make anyone who isn't a fan of kiddie games buy their system. We'll see what happens...but I have a feeling that Sony will reign supreme again.
XBOX 360 will kill Nintendo. This is it. The next Nintendo sytem wil be the last.
According to Time magazine, the current market-share breakdown for consoles is:
19% Nintendo
24% XBOX
56% PS2
Microsoft bought it's way into the market. The house that Gates built hasn't seen any profit on Xbox, and they almost killed Nintendo.
SHAME ON THEM!!!!!!

Microsoft lost money on XBox. They were losing money selling them at $299 a system. Their original gameplan was to infultrate the market and make a profit with XBox 360.
Nintendo, in terms of this sort of a system is 'done'. But their handheld system is still the highest selling console out there, so they can semi-afford to not sell as much of their bigger console.
Like I said before though, they should do what Sega did and create games for Sony and Microsoft.
People have gotten ahold of some pictures for it. They say the pics are official. (?)

When deciding to get the original Xbox, I went into the store then walked out after I realised how monstrous it was, I didnt buy it. Then Fable came out, so I got it.
