Windows 7
I didn't hate Vista like everyone on the planet...however, did the 64bit Home Premium upgrade - took a couple hours for it to transfer my programs and files over. Works fine, had to find a new Anti-Virus software (McAfee 8.5 not supported, got AVG) and update some drivers so my HDMI sound output would work.
The only thing that I found that Vista was missing (so far) that Win 7 has was a program that would cycle through your pictures as your desktop wallpaper.
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
The jump list feature is incredible, as is the little preview window thing off the task bar. I think, like Kirk mentioned somewhere, the system is all about ease of use and makes everything feel like second nature.
i think courtney is trolling

Am I the only one who is having problems with Shockwave Flash? I can't use Youtube, or anything that relies heavily on the flash player, because all of my browsers freeze up. I downloaded the latest flash player, but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions? At the moment, this, combined with a notification I keep getting about ATI catalyst control is making Windows 7 more troublesome than Vista. Just my luck.
Everything's fine with Flash and all on my end. I would suggest uninstalling your video drivers, uninstalling flash, restart. Let windows detect your hardware, then go to the ATI site and get their latest update. Also, how old is your video card?
The drivers for my video card don't even exist anymore. I think I bought one of the last computers with a Radeon 3200 before it went out of production or something. It's only maybe a year old at most, but on the ATI website, there is no driver for 3200 series.
Also, I restarted the computer, and things are working fine now, but I'll keep that in mind.
All ATI cards use the same Catalyst drivers, and they certainly list the 3200 series on the website still, under "integrated/motherboard"

Are you running 32 or 64bit? Which browser are you using? If you're using IE-64bit, adobe doesn't support 64bit Flash. Try IE 32bit or Firefox.
I'm using 64 bit, I'm using Chrome. I had tried looking for the drivers, but couldn't find it. It's good to know it exists. I may start using Firefox, but I was having trouble on that also. It's working for now, so I'll go with the flow. It may just have been one of those things that happens from time to time. My car's transmission did it a month ago. shit happens.
Thanks Kirk for your help
Just installed it today. I'm liking it very much so far.

Installed it last night. It's nice but I don't see a big difference over Vista so far, however 95% of my time on the computer is spent on Chrome. I will explore later.

Get 6 more and we will be in action!

^ Awesome.
Also, since Windows was doing the whole 95 and 98 thing... does Windows 7 make anyone else think of 1907? Or even 2007? Cause either way it just sounds ... behind the times.
I would've called it Windows Ninja-Motherfucker.

Oh, Malty, you funny somamabeach.
I must resurrect this thread!
So for some reason, Windows 7 now takes about 10 minutes to go from my password screen to my fully loaded (and accessible) desktop. Very strange.
Their last security update has slowed my machine don a bit as well, but not nearly to that extent. I'm guessing it's some kind of minor driver conflict, and when the video card people update their stuff it'll balance out. I hope. Because Vista went this way to, and it got unusable after a while.
Not quite unusable. But I can make dinner while waiting for the log in
Sounds like our computers at work after every so-called upgrade. Once a month they fix all the bugs from the last upgrade, launch the new one and then we get a half day of system down time while the apes in IT throw feces at each other and try to decide who screwed up this time.
Ok, so not really that bad, but still. I hate new versions of anything that work poorer than the old version. Beta test that shit, people. Come on.

If your computer is running that poorly after an upgrade, there is something else wrong with your computer. Use system restore and go back to before the upgrade, see if that fixes it, if it does look up the update to see what exactly it is doing. If it is a driver, you may have a conflict.
mine started up slowly (really slowly) the first time after the update but since then it runs fine.
Well, that is typical for certain updates since that is when they are finishing installation.

it uses a lot less RAM than vista, which makes literally everything on my computer run more smoothly. also, you can do a lot more stuff with the windows and it doesn't jam up for no reason like vista liked to do. much easier to use, i HATE windows vista.
