What games are you playing right now?
this game just looks like it was made for me. i loved the good survival horror games because they actually pulled on your emotions, yanked at your heart with something other than 'finish this objective, then that.' this game looks to run the full gamut and do it well.
plus i spose there are a couple other ps3 exclusive titles i'd like to try eventually. metal gear solid 4, uncharted 2, MAG, killzone 2, and some ratchet n clank goodness.
god help me, my inner gamer, presumed dead, is coming back with a vengeance!
So worth it....
i mean, i wouldnt but another copy of arkham asylum at this point now that i've beaten it and have codes for exclusive challenge content, but yeah, there are some good games on the ps3. i just always ignored em until Heavy Rain grabbed me by the throat.
what to do...
I have to be honest, after watching the trailer, it looks sort of like a playable soap opera. I dunno...
I'd rather just blow shit up.

Have you played their previous game, Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit).
Heavy Rain is basically the newer version of that. I personally have very little interest in it because it's not really a game. I'm more like an interactive movie. I suppose if you love doing quick-time-events, it's the game for you. I got bored of playing Simon when I was like 5...
Oh, and I am not playing anything right now. Stopped playing games for a few weeks to get prepped for Mass Effect 2. Mass Effect is still my personal favorite game, and it looks like everything that was a negative about the first game has been addressed.
When you get home Tuesday night, expect to see everyone playing ME2.
Heavy Rain is basically the newer version of that.
Damn it Kirk, I was gonna say that.
how are you liking ME2 kirk? i'm really having trouble sticking with ME1 - the controls feel clunky, im not acclimating well, and my team mates AI is horrid, i feel like a babysitter often having them hold back while i take out a threat as best i can on my own.
in other news: ps3 purchased. i could not resist. i'll be pre-ordering heavy rain, which im still geeked about, increasingly moreso as i read more about it and watch more gameplay vids.
with two systems, i think im going to stick with buying games that focus on multiplayer heavily (bad company 2, etc) for the 360, based on what i've read on the differences between PSN and xbox live. besides, i've already paid for the service.
what ps3 exclusives from the past should i be looking at? i'm excited to finally be able to play metal gear solid 4, which is quite affordable now. also looking into uncharted two, possibly. anything else exclusive to the ps3 you guys would recommend?
i think i'll finish out bioshock while i wait for the ps3 to arrive, come back to mass effect another day.

Add Ratchet and Clank and MAG
I've got back on xbox live and am fumbling through halo3's matchmaking process. i had to delete all friends earlier because i couldn't figure out how to turn off the notifications thingy and got tired of my daughter annoucing "Skeezophreekix is online!" whenever she was watching Up.
If I can figure out how to turn that off, please feel free to add TuffyDTMF. I don't play often, but like to get an hour in now and then.
Picture that monologue in Izzy's unending chipmunk voice... "Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL! Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL! Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL! Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL!" It's unnerving.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Mass Effect 2 is awesome so far. The basically addressed all my gripes about the first game. There is a reason it is 96 on Metacritic... And though it is early in the year, this has GOTY written all over it. They made it a much more accessible game than the first. You certainly don't have to play the first to jump into it, but I think you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't. The amount of differences your gamesave from ME1 makes in ME2 is damn impressive.
If you're having difficulty with your AI squad, I suggest turning off their ability to use powers automatically, then you decide when they use them. I found that in some cases that really helps out at lower levels. Once they start to level up, you can kind of let them do their own thing.
Also, you might have problems if you don't properly balance your squad. If you're not a soldier, you probably always want to roll with a soldier to back you up. Either Ashley or Wrex... Potentially Garrus.
Unless you're playing as a vanguard, you have to pay attention to who you put on your team for missions. For instance, if you know you're going to be fighting a lot of Geth, Tali is probably worth considering.
Personally I loved having Liara and Ashley as my backup (as Vanguard). It made for a really well-rounded team. At higher levels, Liara rules. She doesn't kill shit with her gun often, but when you walk into a room with enemies in it, she just starts throwing them all over the place and you just pick them out of the sky.
You also have to remember that you're playing an RPG, not a shooter. So you have to take battles a little more strategically because if you don't you die fast.

Add Ratchet and Clank and MAG
my sister's boyfriend is loaning me his mgs4, which im excited for. also uncharted, so i can play that before uncharted 2. i'm already pre-ordering heavy rain. MAG looked promising, have you played it online? if so, how's the experience as far as lag with so many hundreds of players on one map?
tonight i feel accomplished. I build a wire grid shelf that sits around my 360, to let it breath (an inch or two on each side), and plan on having the ps3 above it. i build it i did. also got a SWEET deal on a smart HDMI splitter since my display only has 1 hdmi input.
thanks for the advice, kirk. i'll reference that when i start playing it again. right now, bioshock is just more creepy fun, especially with the sequel just around the bend. glad you're digging ME2.
Uncharted 2 makes me wish I had a PS3. Just looks so good.
Been playing Left for Dead 2 on 360. Awesome fun blasting through mass packs of zombies.
Treat me mean, I need the reputation.
i finally finished bioshock. i got distracted by modern warfare 2, but it's so broken online that i finally got back to it. great game. great great game.
at the moment i'm playing mirror's edge on the ps3 to get used to the controller, which i kind of hate. it's too small for my hands, and the thumbsticks are so loose. my sister's boyfriend loaned me mgs4 and uncharted 1 to tide me over until HEAVY RAIN.
i've downloaded the heavy rain demo and i've gotta say, im more excited than ever for this game.
also, i managed to snag an unopened collector's edition bioshock 2 on ebay for $80. it retailed for $100, and some folks are making $150 selling them on ebay right now. the market's a little congested, so i'm tempted to wait and sell it for a profit... but it just arrived and it's staring me in the face.
do want to open it and play. must resist. gah!
For you:

Thanks mate. I'm really excited for Heavy Rain. I know it's not a game in the traditional form, but the storytelling, mood, and themes have got me psyched. I dug the demo, and found that a lot of the interactions felt natural and pushed me to want to keep going, as opposed to being an annoying traditional quicktime event. That review is true though in what it says about the walking dynamic - I can't understand why they went that route as far as control goes.
I'm glad to see dark, noirish stories starting to queue up for release. I'm super geeked for Alan Wake, and excited to see what Rockstar Games does with LA Noir, though that one isn't up for release for a bit. They're saying it'll be open world but not as prone to bullshit as the GTA series.
I'm all for shooters and the like, but these Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, and LA Noir seem like they're made for me. Especially Alan Wake. May cannot arrive fast enough.
I'm also looking at Metro 2033, based on a best selling Russian novel. Post apocalyptic survival, looks promising.
LA Noire looks pretty damn cool, but the trailer bugged me because the car had a dome light. When were those invented?
Played Hard Rain, and the game is a great movie, but as a game sucks so badly I couldn't finish the demo.
I have to say Uncharted 2 was very very good, even though it basically stole every idea from some of the best video games and movies.
Now MAG has been absolutely addictive. I can't play that MW2 crap anymore after this. It feels so tiny and mundane.
If I can figure out how to turn that off, please feel free to add TuffyDTMF. I don't play often, but like to get an hour in now and then.
Picture that monologue in Izzy's unending chipmunk voice... "Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL! Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL! Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL! Skeezophreekix! SQUIRREL!" It's unnerving.
LOL. You can always switch your online presence to Busy. Sorry about that, I do sign in a lot. It's funny because for the past two months I have been on the ps3 almost exclusively.
If this keeps up, I might have to sell my XBL memberships that I bought last month from amazon $35.
The only thing I have to look forward to is the Splinter Cell and Halo. But I think both my MP and SP will go to the darkside. Freaking MAG killed it all.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
right now i'm playing mirror's edge on the ps3. i'm loving it. for some reason the demo on the 360 made me feel really motion sick, but when i saw it for $10 brand new for the ps3 i took a chance and picked it up. no nausea or vertigo. go figure.
i could use a better controller though, i HATE the ps3's. it's so small, my hands cramp up. thinking of buying a converter box to let me play with an xbox 360 controller, but then i'd give up the motion sensing capabilities. failing that, im really tempted to build one of these out of a 360 controller and a dualshock3:

they're just so comfortable, fits my hand perfectly, no strain.
i'm geeked about so many of the games coming out soon. heavy rain in 5 days, bad company 2 on march 2, metro 2033 on march 16. further out there's red dead redemption and ALAN WAKE, which i've been excited about for ages now. May 18th can't come soon enough.
i think i may cancel one or both of my pre-orders, either heavy rain or bad company 2, and wait until the price drops. no really great exclusives rushing me to buy right away. i'd like to try mag, but it seems like that game takes a huge time commitment to advance and get the full experience, which turns me off right at the moment with everything about to be released.
I am of the opposite opinion of the controllers. I feel the 360 controller is way to big and clunky. It's like playing with the N64 controller again. That's not a good thing.
are any of you folks planning on picking up bad company 2? i've got it on pre-order from amazon, they're offering a $20 credit with preorder towards another game purchase later on.
reason i ask is, i've had a blast with the demo, takes me back to battlefield 1942 on the PC ages ago, only improved in a lot of ways.
few people playing the demo are communicating though, and you need that in a squad based game. i'd like to form up a squad that wants to balance working cohesively as a team and lonewolfing as needed. anyone interested?
i don't want to lead necessarily, but i'd rather do this with friends than join a random squad.
I got Silent Hill Origins for the PSP for about £3. I started it but so far I've found it quite troubling and don't expect to make it through the whole game. Whenever something comes at me quickly I throw it on the map screen and have to put the PSP down to collect myself.
I know I'm scaring myself more than the game is really scaring me but the tension might be too much. It's an okay game so far. I didn't like when there was a toilet stall with "AMY -31" written on it in blood.
haha. you're IN the game.
i've read that the wii version of SH: Origins has no way to stop the action; go to your cell, or the map, what have you, and the enemy just keeps right on coming for you. it's the only game id really like to try on the wii.
I think you're thinking of Shattered Memories for the Wii. No fighing in that game. Just exploring, running, and decision making.
yeah, that's the one i meant.
i dont follow wii, but i love classic survival horror so i was excited to see what they'd do with that.
still geeked for alan wake. hurry up, may, and get here.
I bought BC2 for the 360. It has been a good time so far. I hate the SP, don't play it. But the MP shines. However it shines because of playing with friends. Without friends it is not as good as MAG. I don't think the PS3 would have worked as well because one good feature about the 360 on this game is being able to party chat with 8 people.
But yeah once the free DLC comes to MAG i'll go back to it. Is just not the same when you have to play really good to get kills in BC2, and all you get is 30-40 kills, yet in MAG i was able to get almost a 100 without killing all the time and still going for the objectives.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
i'm loving bc2, when i can play with a decent squad of friends or randoms who communicate. i keep seeing you on now and then, and sometime i'll drop in on a game with you. i traded my mw2 to gamestop during their 'bonus 60% trade promotion' because i couldn't go back to it's arcadey multiplayer after BC2... got more than i would have on ebay for it, too
finished heavy rain, loved it. it wasn't without faults, but man, it reminded me how good something story driven can be. i miss the oldschool lucasarts adventure games - day of the tentacle, sam and max, full throttle.
taking a much needed break from first person shooters. shadow complex is, without doubt, the best $15 game i've bought in a very long time. never realized xbox live had decent offerings.
I've never played Shadow Complex, but I found this funny.
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/shadow-complex-hawp/61375
ahahahaha. love it.
yeah, orson scott card surprised me a little when i put down enders game (which i've read and reread over the years) and the series and stumbled on some interviews. he (is/was?) a democrat who went gaga for bush's 'war on terror.' that surprised me given the consequences of militarism in his work.
oh yeah, picked up the god of war collection today on the cheap. such fun, for a button masher! my sister's boyfriend loaned me little big planet as well. this vacation from FPSs is great!
Recently played the demo for Dante's Inferno. Visually nice, and good music, but I found the controls over-elaborate (same thing that killed Max Payne for me) while the gameplay itself was too simple - whack at things until they're dead, grab health, grab mana, go whack at the next thing. Sort of a needlessly complex Castlevania.
I am disappoint.
Also, boobies!
This is why we can't have nice things.
Xbox Live's Duke Nukem 3D port satisfies, however.
So there's that.
This is why we can't have nice things.
i remember duke 3d on my old pc...
have they upgraded the graphics at all like they did with perfect dark, or is it a straight port?

Yep I did the same! got 40something for it. After playing MAG and BC2 on dedicated servers, it just doesn't compare to going into MW2, being green and with the NAT open, and still get some freaking lag.
and yeah the gameplay is crap compared to real objective games.
I don't think I have seen you in-game. Then again your gamertag doesn't remind me of you at all. lol. Unless I am in a party I will join your squad.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
It is exactly like Duke 3D on my Mac a decade ago. My first thought on running it was "Wow do these graphic suck!" Took me a moment to remember that this was cutting edge back then.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Modern Warfare 2 and just picked up Battlefield Bad Company 2. And I blast Surfin' Bird by the Trashmen just like fuckin' Full Metal Jacket while I play, as well as other "war" music.

Metroid 3. Bahahaha.
B
I am disappoint.
Also, boobies!
yeah that game had a lot of cool things yet sucked in the gameplay. Have you played God of War 3? It kind of does better what this game tried to do (simpler) but it is still just button smashing.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
yeah that game ...
Which? I mentioned three games and boobies. Kinda hard to focus.
I've not played GoW3, either.
This is why we can't have nice things.
there's boobies in god of war!
you could have it all sir!
Has anyone played Heavy Rain or God of War 3 yet?
Yes. I finished Heavy Rain awhile back
Opinions on it are really mixed, but I LOVED it. Great story, suspenseful, I actually felt for the characters as if I were reading a novel.
You has PS3 Derek? If you want to know more of my experience with Heavy Rain I'll tell ya.
I bought Left 4 Dead 2 back on Black Friday for my 360. I'm still friggin' playing it. Why does killing zombies have to be so damn addicting?
Remove your brain. Place it in the machine. Perpetuate the American Dream.
wait... you play video games?
::boggle::
"I'm glad I live in the GPS era. In a different century, I would've set off to visit the other side of the village and wandered off into the mountains and been eaten by a carnivorous plant. Or discovered the Americas."

no one is playing FFXIII?

i played 1, 3, 7, 8, and 10. 10-2 kinda put me off, and from what i've seen, i don't think i'd really like the combat dynamic of 13.
wait, you game? *boggles*
you could have it all sir!
yep, as long as he feels ok with decapitating the being that has the boobies

well, there were the two women in his bed at the start of the first game, and later on the oracle of delphi... dunno what other breasts i'll encounter on this epic spartan journey.

Do it!! Joker.....Uncharted 2 (multiple awards for GOTY), Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet.
So worth it....
