What games are you playing right now?
worth not waiting for, i would say

I wish I had more free time. See the problem with me paying full price is - I won't even play the game more than 30 minutes a day. Granted some days it will be more, but others I won't even pick it up. So it's not worth it for me to pay full price.
gamefly. gamefly. gamefly.

haha, I know I know! I used to have it and really liked it too. (Gamefly that is)
i have gamefly right now but im thinking about not renewing.
their delivery time to michigan is longer than i'd like, and unless it's a title that's been out for ages i never seem to get things shipped to me from my queue.
very excited to see what netflix - er, quickster - will have to offer along the lines of videogame rentals.
I was also thinking about this.
While the option to buy that Gamefly has is pretty awesome, I don't buy enough games for it to be a selling point for me. I rarely over play a game. I probably shouldn't own as many games as I do.
Also netflix's shipping is amazing. I can put a movie in my mail box to be shipped back on Friday and a movie will arrive on Monday. That's crazy turnaround right there.
The game I currently want is Alice Madness Returns for the PC by American McGee. I played the first one Alice and rather enjoyed it. It is a creepy and twisted version. Has anyone else played either of these?
Whatever Whore!

berto - the idea with getting new games, i have found is to add them as far in advance as you can. i am usually six months in the future, and i add and remove as dates change, reviews come in, or games im more interested in are moved up.

Is it just me or does this look a hell of a lot better than Deus Ex?

couldnt wait to get my grubby fingers on the battlefield three beta this morning. sorta disappointed...

God-DAMN that looks awesome. It's only too bad that quality-of-trailer and quality-of-product are inversely correlated.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
i looved the original syndicate games. excited to see how this turns out, though itll be very different.
also, this is very clearly a different type of game than deus ex, beyond the futuristic tech thing. one of the best things about deus ex 1 and 3 were the ability to go at any problem any number of ways, stealth, shooting, hacking, sneaking. you could make it the entirety of the first deus ex without firing a shot if you were good enough and so inclined.
syndicate looks fun, but its not comparable to deus ex. totally different type of beast.
I love that tons of people are bitching about this game already because it's an FPS. What blows my mind even more is how a lot of people agree that the game looks badass but because it's named "Syndicate" it's trash so they won't play it. I can't for the life of me wrap my head around that sort of logic. Same thing with the new XCOM. A lot of people say it looks great but those same people in the same breath say the game will be awful because it's named XCOM and isn't an RTS or whatever the original XCOM games were.

I heard it was underwhelming for some.

quite. ive noticed small but annoying hit detection problems, and i think the graphics look like shit, since they take time to fully render when you spawn, or you're running up on things

I'm downloading it now. I didn't have any plans to get it and I doubt this will change my mind. Maybe when it drops down to $30 or $20 but $60? For half a game? Hell no.

UPDATE: Still haven't been able to get into a game. Keep getting the "Can't Connect To EA Servers" message.
So, uh, MW3 it is then!

Finally got into a game and yeah, definitely getting MW3.

what didnt you like about it?

+1. please be detailed as possible. i haven't decided whether to try the beta or not yet.
MW fans are like Smash Bros Melee fans. They hate anything remotely different. Just because B3 is a little less arcade-y people are losing their shit.
I finally downloaded my free PSP game from the PSN network. "Pursuit Force". It's stupid arcade fun.
Basically, you chase down bad guys in cars. The catch: You have the ability to jump from car to car.
So you have two options to stop bad guys. Shoot their car til it explodes or jump on their car and shoot them individually. Yeah. Freaking cool.
Surprising amount of mission variety.
I played the shit out of Bad Company 2. Bought the game twice for both of my systems so if I didn't like BF3 then it's not because I also happen to like CoD and expected it to be exactly like that (And for the record, CoD4 and MW2 are the only CoD games I liked. Never touched any of the WWII games and sold Black Ops after a month because it was a bowl of suck).
Anyway, the first match I played was really buggy and laggy. Graphics were really nothing to write home about, maybe a bit better than BC2's, but again, nothing really spectacular. A lot of frame-rate drops and screen-tearing though. Second game was better gameplay wise. The game isn't horrible. I mean, I may pick it up sometime in the future. But not for $60. It's just not worth $60 in my opinion, especially the console release.
I know it's suppose to be beta and that one shouldn't harp too much of the bugs and lag and horrible hit detection, but the thing is, the game is less then a month away from release. Who the hell releases a beta three weeks from the games official release date? This is something you do three months away from release. It just reflects badly on the product and what with all the bad press EA and Origin are getting, a buggy demo is the last thing DICE need.
In other game news: Dark Souls comes out Tuesday! Going to try and get through the Tower of Latria in Demon's Souls until then. That place is all kinds of freaky, especially these things:

decided to try out the battlefield 3 beta on the ps3.
im glad i went in knowing that they weren't using the full texture packs and graphics had been scaled down for the beta, because it's really not as jawdropping as gameplay footage released on the ps3 has shown.
that said, as a guy who really doesn't get into competitive online shooters, i kind of like this one. i'll probably rent it just for the singleplayer campaign and go from there.
@subby: this isnt a beta. its a server test. there's no obvious way to report bugs, and there shouldn't be, really. i mean you're right this game is done. they know what the issues are, they just want to see how it runs with a few thousand people servered up at the same time. it's the kind of thing that should have been done with brink.
like you, i did enjoy bad company. i didnt "play the shit out of it" but i had some love for it not being a run and gun experience. i dont know why i didnt like this, but maybe it's the game mode. i much prefer conquest to rush, which is freaking camp-tastic.

Bought Castlevania: Harmony of Despair last night on a whim. Next time I have friends over, it will be really interesting to see how multiplayer 2D Castlevania works.
Basically the game is one giant map. For each "level" you start in one part of the castle trying to get to a specific room of the castle to beat the boss. One thing though: You can't pause and you only have a half an hour to do it.
Which sounds like a lot of time, but not really.
EDIT: fix'd typo.
Dark Souls. Haven't played much but I've been a bit disappointed by what I have played. That's mostly to do with the presentation though. The Collectors Edition (Which I got for free) certainly looks nice on my shelf though. Also still playing Dead Island on and off.
I took some of my games out of my collection to sell because I rarely play them. In the "To Sell" pile is:
-MAG (Got MW2 and am going to get MW3 so I think I have enough online shooters)
-Enslaved (Looks and runs like ass on the PS3)
-Gears of War 2 (Meh)
-New Vegas (Got bored with it; Fallout 3 was better)
In the "maybe" pile is:
-Lost Planet 2 (Interesting art design and some good set pieces but barely anybody plays online and those that do are so good that it's just not even fun)
-Brink (Because i still want to believe this game is good)

rage - total fucking eye candy. bethesda, and the creators of the whole FPS genre... i dont think i have to say more than that.

I heard it was kind of disappointing. Short I mean.

Ico Ps3 port. Fucking awesome. onto Shadow of the Colossus after.
it's three discs on the xbox. i dont know how short that's gonna be...
at this point ive played a fair bit of time, and i feel like this [rage] game is what borderlands aspired to be in its original incarnation. no, there arent billions of weapons, but it has the same sort of feel. it just feels better executed.

I was probably one of the very few people who didn't get a Borderlands vibe from the game. Put the games side-by-side and the only thing they have in common is shooting.
In other news, I'm about to burst a blood vessel in my head because Xbox just fucked me. I bought a years worth of LIVE last year from some sale they were having and apparently that signed me up for automatic-renewal. So on the 1st of last month I got charged for another year of LIVE which, while I do want it, I just don't really have the money to blow on something like that right now. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, the purchase didn't show up on my bank statement until 3 days ago, more then 30 days after the renewal I knew nothing about and guess how long you have before you can no longer get a refund?

i got a free month somehow, and it threw off my anticipated billing cycle this year. i wasnt very happy to see it go through not only a month after i expected it to, but on the first and not the third, which was something i had done intentionally to make sure my direct deposit would be through when it billed every year.

My parents said they weren't getting me any games for my birthday. They got me an iPad 2 instead. Poor me
happy birthday mate!
Happy birthday Mike!
I'm playing New Super Mario Bros (for DS) again and am stuck on World 8, Level 7
Still on Dead Island and Dark Souls.
I really wish Crysis had a demo.

Thanks Berto, Thanks Hattie!
Tried both the Xbox and PS3 demo's of Mass Effect 2 (Both have different missions to try out) and I just cannot get into this game for the life of me.
It doesn't help that the main guy, Shepherd, whether male or female, looks ugly as fuck no matter how much you try and tweak their appearance.

I hate how I'll get a game and play it and enjoy it but there will be a bunch of little annoyances that I can't get over and those annoyances seem to grow until it's all I can focus on and I crack and sell the game out of frustration before finishing it and then a couple of months later I'll look back on the game and feel that I'm in a better mindset to give it another try but I remind myself that I've been here before and that I should resist the impulse but the desire grows and grows until I breakdown and buy the game again wherein I'll either like the game a lot more this time around or immediately realize why I sold it in the first place and sell the game again for a second time.
Anyway, I think I've decided I'm going to try and stave off getting Skyrim until the reviews come in. I know the game is going to be awesome, I just want to know which version performs better so I know platform I should get it on. I want to get it on PS3 because A) Dark Souls aside my PS3 is dying of neglect, 2) my OCD demands all my D&D-type RPG's be on one platform, and III) I like the PS3 game cases more.

I'm in exactly the opposite boat - I haven't touched my 360 since Mass Effect 2, though I do want to play Metro 2033 soonish.
Pretty sure I've decided to wait on Skyrim for a definitive edition to be released down the line with any DLC they release bundled in... I can wait a year for a game like that.
Started Arkham City this week. Can't say anything the reviews haven't - fun fun fun.
Very excited for Uncharted 3.
Finally beat Reach. Loved it. Best Halo behind the original. Don't really care that they're making a fourth and starting a whole new trilogy. The series has ended for me. I'm moving on.

Anyone play Facebook Scrabble?
Rebought Crysis 2 and got F.E.A.R. 3 as well. Used the last of my Amazon credit so the total cost for both out of my pocket was just $10.
Enjoying Crysis 2 second time around. Think I was just in a gaming funk last time.
What little I've played of F.E.A.R. 3 is good but the problem, and this is a big one, is that the online is a ghost town. Tried to find some games online and there were maybe 3 people online. For a game that was only released a few months ago that is seriously disappointing since the game modes seem fun, especially "Fucking Run" where you run from a giant wall of death.
But like I said, it only cost me $10. I'll play through the single-player between bouts of trying to find games online, then sell the game for $15 at a yard sale and make a little profit. Works out in the end I guess.

i'll take crysis 2 off your hands when you've finished it if the price is right
have you played the port of the original crysis on console yet? seriously considering getting it.
I would if there was a demo for it.

same here.
Just Beat F.E.A.R. 3. The single-player was solid. The gun and cover mechanics felt great and the game had some pretty interesting, well-designed levels, the standout being one taking place in a huge Sam's Club type superstore that's been taken over by insane cultists. The game was also surprisingly colorful too. Guess my only complaints (other then the one I'm about to get into) is that it's a bit short and that the horror aspects usually fall flat. Other then that, it was a great experience, far better than Project Origin.
But like I said earlier, the online is a ghost town. I've tried and tried and tried to find games but no luck. It's a shame really, and an even bigger once considering the game isn't even that old. I figured since people still play MGO, MAG, the L4D games, and even the Bioshock 2 multiplayer I'd find a small, dedicated community of players. But no, the game's dead. I'll re-sell it later.

limbo was a great game. i'm looking forward to more from the developers.
picked up ico/shadow of the colossus today, looking forward to that again.
been playing demon's souls for the first time this past week, on and off. keep being drawn back, though elements of it are so complex i keep second guessing myself and restarting. liking the wanderer so far.
deus ex: human revolution did have shit box art, but it was no alpha protocol. head and shoulders above that mess, but i'm sad to report it fell short of the original deus ex. that game was a masterpiece. expected, still fun though.
