wet
my review from BlindingLoud.com
And now we get to ask the question, with tongues firmly placed in that warm cheek pocket, what would happen if a game studio watched way too much Quentin Tarantino? The answer is: Wet.
As fantastic a thought as this game is, a samurai spaghetti western with Yakuza and completely cheese ball story, what we the players get handed lacks. If you have played Devil May Cry, this game will feel old hat. If you’re like me and you find combat multiplier based scoring to unlock new moves monotonous, you’ll continue to find this game to be just as annoying.
The graphics aren’t terrible, but they surely aren’t great. The same with the voice acting and script. There are big name people sprinkled in the cast, and yet, everything my ears have come across seem pretty contrived and dull.
The controls, though are what keep me from slapping this title back into my 360 console. They’re dodgy to say the least. I found myself trying to wall run and just hitting the wall, or running straight up said wall. The flaws in the system and control overall are most evident in the tutorial, which suspiciously comes after the first level, and was so annoying I almost shipped it back the first night.
Rent this game, though. Give it’s due and you might be shocked into addiction, but, as with anything, this is my opinion. And that said, in my opinion, this game is probably going to be in tomorrow’s outgoing mail.

“...There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one's head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people's pain. You ought to have some apprehension that the man you see before you was once even younger than you are now and arrived at his present wretchedness by imperceptible degrees.”

The best action game since Enter the Matrix (xbox original)!
The one nod I'll give to it is the auto aim/dual targetting system. Novel idea, and really the only practical way to pull it off, but in this the controls lack as well.
They intended to create a fast paced game that made you rely on aerobatic theatrics to stay alive, and they did. But I found myself taking advantage of it for all of the wrong reasons. This "fast paced" romp kept me playing 80% of it in slow motion because without that auto/dual aim mechanic, it functions worse as a shooter than the Die Hard Trilogy for PSone.
I'm just relieved we have Borderlands, and many other holiday offerings to be had in the months to follow. I've been dying for some good solid fun, which I did not find in Wet.
I'm actually writing a review right now. If all goes well. I could be a regular staff member and get paid!
And dying for some good solid fun, I've talked myself into a midnight release of OSDT. I'm by NO means one of those hardcore Halo kids, but I've never NOT enjoyed playing it.
...anything, this is my opinion. And that said, in my opinion, this game...
Did you do this on purpose?
the new batman game is the best action game ive played since i can remember

Yes, Arkham Asylum rocks. Best game of the year so far, everyone should be playing it.
Also, Atomos, is games journalism something you're interested in getting into? I would be interested in talking about the "industry" if you are. Not that I have work, just top-level discussion.
that batman game got a guinness record for being the best reviewed game of all time.

Yeah I'm not that enthralled by the matrix, but I am very anxious to play Batman:AA. [I think it's quite humorous that that is how it's displayed on your friend's list while they're playing.]
I got ODST last night. It's either brilliant or horrible. I'm leaning toward brilliant. I'll post more once I feel it out a bit more.
i dont know if im "interested" in the "industry" of what im doing. i feel like there is some payola going on. i stopped reading (industry) magazines, because i kept seeing games like final fantasy get better reviews than better games were getting.
that said, though, being that im of no mind of being counter to the great paid voices, ive found some independent work at gaming communities like blinding loud, and lousy at gaming.
i have, in the distant past been offered jobs beta testing at huge gaming conglomerates, and, more recently did a little writing for some PC mod teams.
still want to have that discussion?

Atomos, are you named after the monster that guards the top of Barrier Tower in Final Fantasy 5?
hell no.
honestly this name means nothing. a former girlfriend of mine told me it meant invisible in spanish or greek, i cant remember now. and, since i had developed an aversion to having numbers in my screen names, i changed my AIM name to something to this effect, and the rest as they say...

is whole milk.
The woman in WET has an arrogant smile that is the best...
I thought it SUCKED everything about it was terrible. I think the only thing that I really really liked about it was the fact it was themed over a grind house style action. That's the only reason I even thought about buying it but a game like Max Payne or maybe Stranglehold is a lot better.
Yep. It's makes perfect sense to me that a game should actually be better suited a platform for such a buffet of action sub-genres. They just fucked it up. It's unfortunate that so many games are the equivalent of "what if.." scenarios which are unquestionably intriguing, but fail miserably at core game mechanics.
It's generally pretty obvious that when you have a game called "wet" with a sexy leading-lady, you aren't buying it for it's quality gameplay.

ehh. well thanks, cuz i was planning on buying it.
