okay...so i just finished uncharted 2 - it was pretty damn good. it was a long game and the best way i can describe it, not being a complete gaming freak, is like indiana jones and tomb raider, i guess.

i only just bought my ps3 about a month ago.

being an ex-avid-hardcore skateboarder i love the SKATE series. they're pretty true to real life as far as performing the tricks go. and the world is huge and there are plenty of missions etc to keep you well busy. i don't know how it goes down with non-skaters but for me, it shits all over any of the tony hawk games.

also, call of duty games are pretty rad.

that's really all i've played so far.

For a limited time, if you pre-order Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 from amazon.com, they'll give you a $20 amazon credit to spend on another game at your leisure. When I was looking into it today I discovered that the shipping cost to have it delivered on release day, November 10, was exactly what I would have paid in sales tax if I'd bought it locally.

Not a bad deal at all, I'd say. They also have a lowest-price guarantee on pre-orders.

Walmart is offering a $20 store card with pre-orders of the game, but it's fucking walmart (ick), and on top of that you'll be paying out sales tax on your game, gasoline to get there, and sales tax will eat away at the $20 gift card itself.

I'm very excited for this game. I'm planning on using my $20 gift card to order Alan Wake when that's released. Looks like it's going to rock my world.

I have it, but didn't finished it. Got bored of it at the end when i unlocked all the powers and it just wasn't as fun as Prototype for me.

i think there's a demo you can try.

I ordered a fancy Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 from amazon, release day shipping was a whopping $5.75. For an entire console... Awesome.

LOL, that is the entire reason I'm getting the MW2 xbox. I figured I would buy the game and I was planning on buying a new hard drive. Toss in an additional controller and it seems like a no-brainer. After I sell my current 360, I'll basically end up only spending like $70 more than I was going to anyhow.

ive never tried one. if there were a demo or someone sent me a promo copy i'd give it a spin, but i always preferred actually skating to playing skateboards on a console.

I got to say, if the PS3 had backwards compatability I'd already be sold without even looking into nit-picking between things on the two consoles.

that's what im sayin!
i read a tech rumor that they were adding backward compatibility again to one of their many different models for the holidays, but it seems to have fizzled. one of the original ps3 models they sold featured it, but sony dropped it from all models made since.

They started selling compatible versions of the good games you would want BC for, so they are never going to add it back. Too much money to be lost if they do.

They certainly didn't lose any money by having the PS1 games capable of being played on the PS2.
I think that goes to show how much confidence they have in their own product now.

They certainly DID lose money, because they could have sold the games people wanted to play a second time. If nothing else, downloadable games have proven that people are happy to rebuy a good old game.

well, they didn't lose any money, they lost potential money. There's a big difference there.
But then you'd have to figure out how many people bought a PS2 over an original Xbox mostly because they could play their old games on it, giving a player an already large library of games to choose from the moment they brought it home.

i think we are in a different age now. Take for instance the Wii were you can have the popular NES and Super NES games for downloads.

i'm almost certain i heard that sony are losing money making ps3's. that could obiously be wrong and me not being a tech head have no idea whether it could be true.

that's probably another reason why they don't want to make ps2 games compatable. then they'd lose more money. but i guess they make money on the games that they sell for a fucking hundred bucks. jerks.

I know they were just pouring money out when they first came out, because the blue-ray player in them was so expensive. I think blue-ray players at the time were like 800-1,000 bucks and they were sticking one in each 600 dollar PS3.
Now that the price has come down on them they're probably not losing as much though.

Well, that makes sense.

I honestly haven't caught the blu-Ray bug yet. I just don't get it. It seems like the whole VCR bs Betamax thing all over. I still don't have a lovely flat digital television though, so maybe the difference is obvious there. Format changes piss me off. That's why books are fantastic I guess.

I think now that they switched to the slim, they are finally making a few bucks on the actual hardware, but before that they were estimated to be losing up to $400 per unit sold.

And though Blu-Ray was a part of that, it also had a lot to do with the cost of the cell processor.

This isn't uncommon really, most consoles are sold at a loss when they initially ship and eventually turn profitable but not by a lot. They make their money on software. It's just like a printer, they sell you one for $60 because they know they got you with the ink.
