Tell me what PS3 games to buy!!
I'm getting a PS3 probably in the next couple weeks...specifically so I can get Final Fantasy XIII, but that isn't until December.
What can I get to tide me over until then?
Trailers and your own reviews help.
Fallout 3 was brilliant! I sold my 360 after I finished it to finance some things, but I'm considering buying one again now with the price drops, to play the new downloadable content.
I would jump on the PS3 if they'd start putting Emotion chips back in them so they treated PS2 games more nicely. There's hardly any good survival horror being made these days.
Didn't intend to threadjack, Brandon, having not owned a PS3 I kind of rambled.

Kirk! You're a gamer! IS there any good survival horror in the vein of Silent Hills 1&2, Fatal Frame, or the original Resident Evils being made these days?
I've purchased Penumbra for my Mac (it's available for Linux and windows as well) and has a definate strong creepy 'do NOT want to go through this door' vibe...
Otherwise I'm stumped for games of that kind.

Meh. The problem with Deadspace and RE5 is that they focus on action too much, holy crap moments instead of mounting dread. At least Deadspace didn't give you a crumby 'sidekick' to babysit.
I am excited for Bioshock 2, though.

I HAVE to get a PS3. FFXIII
I want FF XIII SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAD!! But I don't know if I want to drop 300 plus the money for the game, for just one game. I mean, I don't really play vg's anymore.
Incorrect Fano, THREE games!!
I just found that out yesterday XIII is going to be in three different installments, but I don't know the details about gameplay and whether or not it's going to be different depending on the title.
btw - Mirror's Edge looks pretty badass, too.
I forgot about Versus XIII. It's set in the same world, but it's a completely different story line. Thats ACTUALLY the one I want, and I think the third is on PSP, but I'm not positive.
I forgot about XIV, which is online.
I'm actually thinking about getting the new PSP but I know I won't get any work done if I do.
FF13 is for 360 too. Bu to answer your question: MGS4, Fallout 3, Street Fighter 4, BlazBlue, LITTLEBIG PLANET!!! Batman Arkham Asylum is better on PS3 because only on the PS3 can you play as the Joker.
Allergy Warning: This post might contain the word nuts or in the case of the "Dress Down Thread" a picture of my nuts.
I was checking out LittleBigPlanet. Oddly enough, it looks really damn good.
I'd be all over the PS3 too if FFXIII wasn't coming out for the 360 on the same day.

I've enjoyed Lego Batman quite a bit....even though I also have Arkham Asylum. If you're looking at Left 4 Dead, it's infinitely easier to control on a PC than any console.
I am asleep, dreaming of waking up.
I thought Final Fantasy XIII was different on the PS3 tho? (I dont mind, I've got both consoles)
"What cha readin' fer??"
Another big reason I'm going ps3 over xbox is the blu ray player.
Another big let down, for me. I watch a TON of movies, I own 3 Blu-Rays. It's simply not worth the cost unless you're watching the fanciest-effects-heavy movies and you have a 1080p TV that is 50" or larger. I like Ironman as much as the next guy, but I can't watch that stuff nearly as often as I can any variety of other stuff. Plus, you don't have to spend up to twice as much money on a movie.
I'm telling ya, buy a 360, have a better gaming experience, then buy a $100 Blu-Ray player in a few months if you still think you really want one.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII was originally slated as the new XIII but was replaced, hence the name. Versus XIII is actually looking like the better game, much darker and more exciting, and if I remember correctly, is exclusive to the PS3.
As will be XIV, I think.
But XIV is an MMO. MMOs suck.

Combine it with the new PSeye thing they've got coming out, plus the processing power of the PS3... shit could be crazy bad ass.
I have had both a PS3 and a 360 from launch. The 360 was much better at first but the PS3 has definetely lived up to where they wanted to go with it as an all around entertainment media device.
I recently canceled my cable tv because I can download all the shows and movies I want to watch directly onto a portable harddrive ($60 for 500 gigs) and plug that directly into my PS3 to watch.
So you can do that, watch Blu-ray, have an Internet browser (it's clunky but images/video look great in HD), use a Wifi connection, play games and play things online with no subscrption fee.
For the record I'm not a fan boy, one of the best gaming experiences you can have is playing Gears of War online on the 360. But the best value (these days) is the PS3 by far.
One game definetely worth getting is Bio-shock. I recently finished it and it has one of best premises and interesting stories ever done in a video game.
For me it all depends how much you game. If you are really into gaming the 360 is the way to go. Not just because if has more games, but more players too.
However if you are not that much into gaming, the PS3 has more options to do stuff with the console than the 360.
I wouldn't recommend getting the new PS3, what you get in hard drive you lose in media slots and PS2 games. You can always change the hard drive in one of the old ones. I would hunt down an older version if i was you.
As for games:
Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Demon Souls,Unreal Tournament 3(if you have the media slots to download the mods), LBP and Warhawk.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
I might buy a PS3 just so I can play the new game by the makers of Shadow of the Collosus. I'll probably get a few other games to better justify the purchase, probably Arkham Asylum and maybe Mirrors Edge.
It's a damn shame the Okami sequel is coming out on the DS. I'm really tempted to get one as well.
!
I'm probably going to buy a PS3 just to be able to buy one game play it and then sell the console again...
all I have to say is "Heavy Rain"
If you go on the web like to gametrailers.com you'll find all sortsa clips and videos.
I don't own a PS3 but I'm hearing good things about Uncharted 2. Enough good things that if I wasn't broke I'd drop $300 on a PS3 to play it.
Demon Soul. Get Demon Soul. Hard as hell, but damn fun.

I can't find the trailer for that new game by the Ico dudes, but that'll be stunning & I think PS3 exclusive too.
I've got a PS3 & an xbox & the 360 is a doorstop really, never used & dusty... I have to stop buying those just for fable games, I'm always disappointed.
"What cha readin' fer??"
It's called the Last Guardian.
I'm the opposite of you. My PS3 sits there, playing the occasional BRD from Netflix. My 360 on the other had, is used nearly daily for either games or Netflix streaming.
All the cross-platform games I get for 360, because I much prefer the controller and because I know like 10 times as many people to play with. Which leaves only the PS3 exclusives, most of which I don't care about.
Half of my PS3 complaints would go away with a better controller, because the Six Axis cramps my hands... It is clearly designed for frail Japanese girls, not American men. The other half of my complaints would require a complete rebuild of PSN, which is nice because it's free but is laughable compared to XBL.
if they'd redo the controller and (this is the trully key bit) add the emotion engine back for full backwards compatability, i'd be all over a ps3 as an entertainment center hub. i'd be able to play my silent hills and fatal frames again!
i'd still probably buy new games for the 360 though, if for no other reason than the community.

It is clearly designed for frail Japanese girls, not American men.
5"1 non-Japanese girl & the control rocks my work compared to that oversize Xbox one which hurts my hand.
"What cha readin' fer??"
I know you, you stand in front of me at every gig, damn you!
But it's a good point, maybe try out the controllers in a shop before you choose. And liking the PS3 ones don't make you less of a man. Honest!
"What cha readin' fer??"
I feel the opposite, since they got rumble back in the ps3 controler it feels a lot better than the xbox one. The xbox controler feels like holding a shoe box.
I must say xbox does have 10 times better customer service. My ps3 controller died while under warranty and I had to pay to mail it to them. It took 6 weeks from the time I sent it to get it back. On the other hand my headset for my xbox died and I phoned them and they fed exed me a new one out the next day no questions asked. I did't even need to send them the broken one, I couldn't believe it.
Us Sony controllers are soooo small and you American Xbox controllers are soooo big!

Also did you guys hear that Netflix is coming to the PS3, the big difference is that is for free while in the 360 you have to be a gold member. That and you have to put a disc to make it work or something.
I don't have netflix streams in my area otherwise i would get my account back.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
I'm interested to see how it works off the disc. It supposedly uses Blu-Ray Live technology to function, which performs like shit as it is, I can only imagine how it is when running an additional application on top of it.
I ordered mine, should be interesting.
Also, I know it's laziness but having to put in the disc every time is lame.
i dont have a ps3, never touched one.
what's the concern keeping them from letting you install the disc on the hard drive? what's on this magic netflix-streaming enabling disc, anyway?

It sounds like Netflix has an agreement with Microsoft, which is why it has to be on a disc. Nextflix says "late 2010" they will have something that can be installed.
So the agreement probably limits the 360 as the only 'integrated gaming system' or something. Using a disc is a work around to the agreement. It is my understanding that MS gave Netflix a lot of resources to get the entire 'watch it now' library up in the first place, so some sort of exclusivity agreement makes sense.
Also there's going to be some Brutal Legend DLC soon that will be free on the PS3 for a limited time, and you'll have to pay on the 360.
Me, i will download those maps when they come out for the PS3 and wait for the game to drop in price. There's no one on my list playing it anyways.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
How is the PS3 controller compare with the PS2 controller, size-wise and whatnot?
I thought the PS2 one was about perfect, while the original Xbox one was clunky.
Is God of War 3 PS3 exclusive? Is it out already? I don't know shit about games anymore.
I got to say, if the PS3 had backwards compatability I'd already be sold without even looking into nit-picking between things on the two consoles.

that's what im sayin!
i read a tech rumor that they were adding backward compatibility again to one of their many different models for the holidays, but it seems to have fizzled. one of the original ps3 models they sold featured it, but sony dropped it from all models made since.

They started selling compatible versions of the good games you would want BC for, so they are never going to add it back. Too much money to be lost if they do.
i hadn't heard of that. is there a place to look it up online, the BC library?
i'd be a happy boy to find the good silent hills and fatal frame series up there.
still, it sucks to have to REBUY games you already owned to play them on the PS3. you'd think they'd let you install them to the hard drive (much smaller than a blu-ray disc, space-wise) then download a patch or patched version once you verify ownership.

Sony's official stance is, if you want to play PS2 games, buy a PS2 too!
I'm not joking, that is actually what they have said. I don't blame them for removing it, it is an added cost that nearly no one actually uses. It's nice for the hardcore people, but no one else cares.
There isn't really a master section that you can go to for it... In fact, right now they seem to be slowly leaking out games, following the 'Xbox Originals' model that has done well for Microsoft.
I know that God of War 1 & 2 are being released at retail on a single disc. There is also a lot of talk about FFVII, and Kingdom hearts. I think they are really planning on using GOW1&2 to get a better gauge on how much they can actually charge people for their 'big' titles. So after that is released, expect many more announcements.

It's the same controller except it has motion sensing features, i never use the motion sensing features though.
God of War is a PS3 exclusive, one of the last ones.
My PS3 plays PS2 games. Honestly it looks like crap on my HDTV. For me the PS3 goes along with upgrading your tv and after spending that much money it definitely sucks to still be playing old games. I keep my PS2 for those nostalgic times along with the only non-HDTV i have.
So...We are still going to die. Right?

Fallout 3 is what I'm playing at the moment. It's addictive, fun and creepy.
Spartan art is the real made hysterical.
