Still Playing the Old School Consoles?
Yesterday night I won my ebay bidding - original Silent Hill game for 7£! (including postage and packing.) I'll be playing it on my Playstation 1.
I was just wondering if anyone wanted to swap and Sega Gamegear/Gameboy/Playstation games?
On another note, does anyone have the new Gameboy XP? I'm thinking of saving up for one. Is it any cop? I'm dreaming of this:
Gameboy XP? Can't say I've even heard of it.
Wait, is it the new version of the Gameboy Advance they made? If it is the only differences between it and the original Advance is a different look and a back-lit screen.
I have a Gameboy Advance and can't say the lack of a backlit screen really bothered me. I think it might even be cheaper, but don't hold me to that.
I thought it had different games? Anyway, it looks amazing and is as big as a compact mirror. What girl needs a compact mirror when they can have a Gameboy XP?
I had the original gameboy, the chunky one. My dad brought it back from Japan for me when I was six. I was the only kid in school with one and everybody was so impressed. Then it broke and I got one of those gameboy pockets, a clear one, so you could see all the wiring. Then I got a Sega Gamegear and Megadrive, and the Gameboy was put on the shelf for a while...
Oh yeah, does anyone know if GameGirls actually existed or were they urban legends?
No, they run the same games
i have it, i'll sell it to you for 50
i like it, but i never play it ever. it's all black, and i will throw in yoshi's island for free.
I want the snes one. But thank you for the offer. I may ask you again sometime though...
yeah that nes one is so cool. mine is the black one.
Are you talking about Nintendo DS?
Anyway, I'm playing Zelda Ocarina of Time, not really an old school (though it's plenty old) and graphic's not what some people would call w00t! but I'm having fun time with this one...
Anyone remember a game named Magical Tree with that little Indian boy?...

When did Nintendo DS come out?
US - November 21th

Anyone here fuck with emulation?

I use to but not anymore but just only nes/snes. They are a fun bunch...
I use Megadrive emulators now and again. Still have my Megadrive console, but no games. So it sits up in my attic.
Emulators are bitches. Finding working ones, let alone working ROMS for them can be difficult. Usually barnyard porn comes up whenever I look. Although I had a NEO GEO emulator once with the whole 'Metal Slug' arcade series on it. Which was cool. Whenever I ditched school/college I'd go down to the arcade and play those games for hours.

well, I don't know all the info as I don't really keep up-to-date with these things so I'll just link the Nintendo site
You might also want to check out Sony PSP - US$186(That's Japanese price - so I'm assuming it's gonna cost around the same). Releases early 2005 US/Europe.
ive thought for a while now that the PSP seemed like the better graphically and media wise too maybe. i would still get a DS if i could use it as a PDA (it has a touch screen after all)

and i tried atari but it was so fucking fast on my puter i couldnt keep up
and SnowWhite was mentioning the gameboy sp with the nintendo skin
honestly its a rip. they sell sticker kits for sp's for like 6 bucks. and other than the sticker on the controller part its no different
Ahh, the old consoles. The best games of all time were on the Super Nintendo.
My cureent entertainment system has hooked up to it an NES, an SNES, a Sega Genesis, an N64, and a Gamecube. I need to pick up a Playstation 2 though. I have no desire for an XBOX.
Oh, and about the GameBoy SP, if you feel like using the money, just hold out for the DS. It's backwards compatible with all GameBoy and GameBoy Advance/SP games. The PSP looks interesting, but the games look lackluster so far. The GameBoy is a proven commodity.
Every now and then I pull out the first couple of MegaMan games and play those on the computer ala emulator. And I never can get enough of the first shooter Star Wars game with the green lines and the strafe runs on the death star.

They are hard. I stopped having a life for a week searching through all of the shit until I had just about all emulators and roms known to man. Seriously. I got them all. I may have missed a few barbie and barny types but I even have all the japanese titles. My collection includes all games from these systems anyways.

The Gameboy SP isn't that impressive, except for the front lighting system. The problem for me is that I have big hands, and the button layout-- especially the extremely small L and R shoulder buttons-- is atrocious. I like the layout for the Gameboy Advance better.
A neat hookup for the Gamecube is the Gameboy Player. I bought it a year ago, and ever since have been playing Gameboy games on the big TV in my bedroom. It plays all Gameboy, GB Color and GBA games. A worthy investment, and you can use a Gameboy Advance or a regular Gamecube controller to play it.
Anybody play Donkey Konga? I dig this game.

Oh, that game was bliss when it was first released. Greatest of all time, if you don't count Super Metroid.
Dude. I JUST finished playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on my old school NES. We play this on nearly a daily basis now, and if it isn't SMB3 then it's Dr. Mario, Tetris, or TMNT3.
Sorry, boring story, but i'm going to tell you anyway.
I had a dream about a Gameboy SP last night. I was in a socks and gloves shop and they were selling one for 29.99 £ but when I got up close it was 79.99. Weird...

A pause button on the console (AKA POWER BASE!)
I had like 30 games for it.
I now have Alex Kid on my computer

I borrowed a Nintendo 8 bit from a ladyfriend from my old home and then she moved out. I came across it cleaning my room a few days ago. I can't find the cables to connect it though.
My painter friend is a sucka for the Sega Mastersystem. He keeps buying up every game he can find for it.
Ah memories.

I have in recent months taken to collecting all the videogames I loved as a child, which unfortunately, consists of hundreds of games. eBay is awesome especially becuase I love having the box and instructions. I've found a great deal of old NES games but the SNES ones are fucking ridiculous pricewise.
Final Fantasy III - $80
Final Fantasy II - $50
Earthbound - $100-$150
Chrono Trigger - $80
Oh, it hurts the head and destroys the wallet.
Its surprising that the RPGs on SNES are still going for that much on ebay, seeing as how the Final Fantasies and Chrono Trigger are now on Playstation. Luckily though, I kept all of my SNES games. Man FF3 and CT were great games.
Sad thing is, I can't go back and play them anymore. I try to and lose interest... I have some form of video game ADD.
I wish I still had my Sega Megadrive. I ended up selling it to some kid who was much too old to be wearing a Thomas the Tank Engine jumper.
I miss games like Earthworm Jim, Dynamite Heady, Alex the Kid and Decap Attack. Most of which no one will probably remember.

Details like this must be included in your book. Fuckin' hilarious.

I love and play every one of those games to this day. Also Gunstar Heros (or any other treasure game) Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster. Anyone remember that Mc Donalds anti polution game? I used to have it and need to know the name to find the rom

Burger time?
Nah. You played these two black kids shooting pollution monsters. It had something to do with McDonalds.

i got me a ps2 but i'm getting some old school games on it.
found me a copy of Bushido Blade (finally!) and got one of the Final Fantasy anthologies (Chrono Trigger and FFII look sweet on a flatscreen TV via ps2).
i used to heavily play the emulators, although i felt the Final Fantasy games were worth purchasing, plus when you play them not emulated you have to save like normal, unlike emulators where you can literally save at any point of the game, including having a save point in mid-attack-that-kills-final-boss so you can watch the ending at whim.
32 bit is SOOOO not retro. You're living in the present.

Wonderful games. By the way, the one that features McDonald's is actually a sequel to a game on the NES called MCKids which had to be one of the hardest fucking games ever, but for it being an excuse to advertise McDonald's wasn't a half bad game. The Sega Genesis version, which you're thinking of, changed a lot of the gameplay and featured far less advertising. Oh, just found the name on Gamefaqs; it was called McDonald's Treasureland Adventure.
And Treasure really is a great company. It's not a classic console yet, but the N64 had their game called Mischief Makers which is such an overlooked gem, though a lot of what has been released for Nintendo systems since the SNES has been overlooked.
And the high price of those RPGs I listed is what they go for with the boxes, instructions, ands maps. They go for a lot less without those.
32 bit is SOOOO not retro. You're living in the present.
1) the first post in the thread mentioned even PS1 games.
2) i wasn't going for "Retro". i was going for answering if i played any games on consoles that are no longer actively on the market or top-of-the-line.
3) lists are not really lists unless they have three items.
did anyone have the sega channel? friggin awesome.
Oh, just found the name on Gamefaqs; it was called McDonald's Treasureland Adventure.
Nah that was a different game starring Ronald McDonald. That was actually made by Treasure.
I'm sure the game was called something like "Mac and ____'s blah blah"

Oh yea, all right then. Here it is, it was called Mick and Mack: Global Gladiators.
I own the greatest NES game of all time... BIBLE ADVENTURES. Thats right, its three games in one and its all pure Jesus lovin' fun! You can play as Noah, Baby Moses (or BIG Baby Moses as I like to call him while I'm jammin' out on the game) or David from David and Goliath. And the greatest part about the game? The cartridge is colored a luscious baby blue, no blah grey for Jesus and his friends, good lord no!
Don't believe me?
http://www.encyclopedia-obscura.com/gamesbible.html
THANKS! Global Gladiators. Thats the one.
And wow. That game sure does suck.
Remember when Disney games were actually some of the best platformers ever made?
Aladdin and The Lion King for the Genesis were awesome. Aladdin is one of my all time favorite 16 bit games. Then after Micky Mania they all suck ass.

I used to have the Aladdin game and you're right, it was awesome. Streets of Rage and Boogerman: a pick and flick adventure were pretty badass too. Props for mentioning Rocket Night earlier.
Know any good Rom/Emulator sites? I'm feeling nostalgic.
