shopping for a netbook
the netbook i bought last year (at an insane discount from the college store) has met with an untimely end, and im not as up on things as i used to be, so i was wondering if there's a company who makes a better? cheaper? faster? machine. something that differentiates it from the 1.6ghz atom (which seems to be standard)
operating system doesnt matter, unless its mac, im gonna make it linux. i only need it for writing and for dragging around with me. my whole life is on my macbook, and i shudder every time it leaves my desk. i just need something i can take with me, but that doesnt mean i want it to suck

Don't knock the iPad, man, it's a great toy. I love it.

Yeah, as much as I wanted to hate the iPad when it was announced, it really is a laptop replacement for me 95% of the time. I basically just use my MBP when I'm doing web dev or need to use Photoshop and Fireworks.
I got a Samsung N130 for £220 back in August. Juiced it 2Gb. Wonderfully ickle and serves all of my MA needs (Word, surfing net, listening to mp3s via audiojack). Not sure if this helps. None of my tech is Apple (apart from an i-pod).

I used to have a Samsung NC10. Very small with good battery life. Got annoyed with the lack of disc drive though...

I use this Gateway Dinky 5000 for walking around netcrap. It's alright.
This is why we can't have nice things.
lenovo is really up there. i can vouch for the lenovo laptop i purchased a few months back.
the specs seem to be standard for any netbook. the difference now is the six-to-seven hour battery life. i had an hp netbook (shudders, i will never buy another hp anything, btw) and wish id waited a year or so. the battery life tripled in under one year.
lenovo seems to mostly average four and a half to five stars out of like a hundred reviews. for a netbook, a device so readily picked apart for its limitations, that is strong..
