Settlers of Catan Anyone?
Okay, I think this is a great startegy game, and it's very addictive. The board game version of it is called Settlers of Catan. There's an online version, but it's unofficial, so you have to call it Explorers. But we all know it's the same thing.
Anyways, anyone else play this game?

Because it's super easy to play online and set up your own games. Jules and I play a coupe times a week online since most of the people we know who play still live back in MNPLS.
Here's the link to the online version, if anyone wants to join in: http://games.asobrain.com/
They have a bunch of other strategy games as well.
And for more info about the game itself, wikipedia wouldn't lie to you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Settlers_of_Catan
So yeah, we should totally set up a game now and then. Takers?

Or you can go to the official site run by the creator of Catan, Klaus Teuber, where you can play the base game to your heart's content against real people from around the world. The address is www.playcatan.com. If you bump into me, Aero, let me know you found out about the site here.
...and then pay to play the Cities and Knights expansion, which is the most fun part of the game IMO.
Thanks, but I'll pass.

P.S. Just so you know I'm not a total scrooge, I've tried the site out in the past, before I found the asobrain one. The gameplay was frustrating and half the time if I was winning, other players simply left the game. Just didn't end up being fun, which is the point of games in the first place.

I understand your concerns and frustrations. I've been there myself and several others have said similar things. In the latest update, this issue has been addressed and the problem is dissipating. Now, on every player's avatar, it lists the number of games the player started, the number finished, and the number of games the player substituted for others who had left. People who habitually ditch games quickly discovered that no one would play with them, and they either straightened up or started playing on other sites that don't have a solution for this problem.
As far as Cities and Knights goes, you're right. There is a nominal fee required to play Cities and Knights, but that also unlocks several Catan expansion games and others designed by Klaus Teuber. Your fee also pays for the metagame, in which players from the different virtual Catan cities compete for prizes and rank by playing games and expanding their city.
I think you should give the site another try.
We play this game in the barracks all the time. It's very fun. Some dude tried to get us to play this other game, Carcassonne,
But it was so lame.
Step back. Evaluate. Recognize.
Well anyway, I'm starting a game over at asobrain tonight, probably be there for a little while.
Anyway wants to play, I'm ireLocus there as well.
