Seeking Suggestions for "Family" Games - X-Box or X360
I might have asked before elsewhere, but never really got an answer (that I can recall, anyway), so here's my situation...
I am on the lookout for games that I can play with my daughter. She's eight, so, you know, content. It's not too hard to find games that are acceptable in that area, but what I've had trouble with is finding games that are fun and two players can play simultaneously. We like to play together, you know? And a lot of what I've found is single player or turn-based. Example - Our box came with Kung-Fu Panda (good single-player, but multiplayer blows), and Lego Indiana Jones (great multiplayer). I will totally pick up one of the other Lego games eventually (Star Wars Complete Saga most-likely) but would like to find something completely different as well.
We have Rayman Raving Rabbids (single-player and kind of not so much fun) and WALL*E (totally excellent single-player, blah multi), and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (turns out she's not so much into retro game styles. Go figure.) She loves Portal, but it's still rather difficult for her.
Anyone have any suggestions for cool, fun, multiplayerable games that don't involve too much gore and/or sex? I'd appreciate your help. Thanks!
NOTE: We don't have Kinect and I'm not planning on getting it any time soon. Also, suggestions for any of the Grand Theft Auto / Vice City games will earn you my eternal scorn.
This is why we can't have nice things.
The Indiana Jones one is very well done. I've also played the Star Wars demo and I'm sold on that, too. The gameplay is, as you would probably imagine, very very similar, so I am hoping there is something completely different.

Might be worth looking at what is available for download on Live. A lot of the stuff on there is co-op and has various degrees of difficulty. Plus, all of those games have demos so you could find out if you guys would like them or not.
There is a lot of fun stuff on there that are basically modern version of things I played as a kid. For instance, the classic "Turtles in Time" arcade game has been re-made to be awesome.
Splosion Man is a surprisingly good game. Has co-op though eventually might get a little difficult.
I've also heard good things about Costume Quest (from Tim Schaffer)
It's probably hard to believe but Snoopy Flying Ace is supposed to be good too. It's basically a re-skinned Crimson SKies from what I've heard.
Those are the first that come to mind, but there are probably many more. The selection of board game type stuff is probably worth considering too.
Thanks for your help. I have some things to look into now at least.

Rock Band.
Oh and if you have a choice go with the SNES version of Turtles in Time. Re-shelled is a remake of the Arcade version which SUCKED. Also Re-shelled added a weird squishy noise whenever you hit the bad guys.
The Toy Story 3 game got pretty positive reviews mentioning the cooperative play being good, if she likes Toy Story.
The most fun I ever had playing a game was Heart of Darkness. Which, despite the name, was a great kid's game. But that was on the old PS1 so it might not be hip anymore.
We already jam on real instruments. No reason to start keeping score.
Thanks for the turtle hints. I wouldn't have known that otherwise.
Noted. Thanks!
Who doesn't love Toy Story?

Is there an XBox version? I'd check it out on your recommendation.

toy story 3 is (reportedly) the best tie-in game ever, but i havent played it
the WALL-E tie-in is also decent.
all the lego games are good, i bought the batman one and played through it with my girlfriend. at least that one has enough replay value and different things to even be entertaining for adults.
both the viva pinata games are neat, and kind of addicting. i dont know if they'd actually be appealing to someone who is eight, but the colors, the graphics, and the cuteness factor is off the charts.
there are tons of great family games on the arcade section. here's a few i can think of off the top of my head
-kingdom for keflings (there's a sequel coming out called world of keflings)
-scott pilgrim is a good cartoon beat-em up akin to streets of rage
-there are two ninja turtle games
-tons of puzzle games
-costume quest is a good, and very simple turn-based-RPG about kids who save their neighborhood from goblins on halloween (there is also a christmas add-on which just released)
-crazy taxi
-super out run
if you're going to consider a music game, i would recommend power gig. it comes with a real guitar, that can be used as both a real guitar and a controller similar to any of the other music games out there. basically, it can be guitar hero, or as i understand it, it can teach you the guitar.

Power Gig? Really?
Isn't that the game where the developers cried when RockBand 3 announced Pro Mode?

hell if i know. but i would think maybe learning the guitar would trump being some tool who could play the dance-dance-revolution version of the guitar....
just me, though. no offense to the tools out there.

RockBand 3 has Pro mode. Which actually teaches guitar. Fender even has a Strat for it http://www.fender.com/features/rockband3/
Same goes for keys. You have to actually play keyboard.
The joke was, Power Gig was looking like something legit then RB3 announced Pro Mode. No one in their right mind would buy Power Gig as a result since they have a crap library compared to the RB platform.

see? this i didnt know. i might even get that version of guitar hero, as its cheaper than my buying a guitar and taking lessons. its always been something i had a desire to learn, but obviously having cerebral palsy is a pretty big barrier to that end. taking lessons would never be plausible, or economical.

I obviously don't have kids but from what I gather the Lego games are basically the go-to games for playing with your kids and both of you having fun.
There are a bunch of those so you've probably got some time before you run out of them. And you can easily get them on the cheap.
