Does anyone else own this fantastic game? I love it. It's a kid friendly GTA on mars, with jetpacks, mechs, and a 100% destructible environment. It's so much fun.
My only dilemma is choosing whether or not to play campaign or online multiplayer. A lot of people in multiplayer don't use their headsets, so I'd like to try to find some regulars to play with online.

I own it, but I haven't played online yet. You're right though, it's fantastic. I love breaking things.

the multiplayer on this game is so bad! seriously. i wish game developers would stop tacking on nearly pointless multiplayer in what are obviously offline, and strictly single player games. these games could be bigger and badder without these elements, which are only in the game to appeal to halo playing douches.the same can be said of virtually useless campaign modes such as rainbow six. the multiplayer could have shipped with much sicker graphics, and larger, if not more maps and weapons.

I love it. It's so well balanced. Usually games with large gimmicks focus too much on that, and don't take the same care in fine tuning the essentials of the genre. Like Fracture, Army of Two or Timeshift. The novelty is there but the 3rd person/1st person shooter aspects are subpar and awkward. Red Faction, however, is so smooth and clean. I love the button layout, The 3rd person works well as an action game and shooter. My first thought was the comparison to GTA. GTA is fun as long as you stay in the car. Trying to defend yourself in a firefight is horrible. Red Faction is much more cohesive in that respect.

As far as online goes, the various backpacks make it very fast-paced and fun. And there are some novelty unlockables as you earn experience.

I just finished the SP campaign. I'm still finishing a few lingering guerrilla actions, as well as searching for lost radio tags and mining ore. I did destroy all EDF cargo crates though. It was definitely worth it. It makes me eager to find the other stuff.

I agree, to an extent. Especially, with trimming down SP campaigns for the sake of more MP maps. Rainbow 6 is a perfect example. Online coop would allow campaign like atmosphere, with a bag full of random scenarios for each. But any game that doesn't have that MP option is going to leave the kids saying, "I wish there was multiplayer." I mean, I've heard it said about Bioshock and Oblivion before, which is laughable.

While Red Faction's MP isn't amazing, online play instantly extends the replay value of any game. I can't object to that.

I'd say the only time I've felt a game's online counterpart was completely unnecessary would most definitely be F.E.A.R. 2. It's a Big Lots bargain bin version of Counter Strike.

thats what im saying though, bioshock was awesome because all the attention was paid to making a hell of freaky game with an immersive game. same deal with oblivion. what stops other games from reaching that calibre are needless elements of multiplayer, or campaign. for instance, the campaign in call of duty franchises play more like gallery shooters where enemies pop up from predictable places over and over. i know its there so people without xbox live can enjoy it, but that number is so very small, that it short changes people who have it.

by the way, send me an FR im Ledfeather

Yeah, I've had that happen to me. Either someone is just being a douche, or they've just gotten the game and jumped immediately online instead of playing single player to explore how destructive they can be.

I really do enjoy the online MP a lot [with seige being my least favorite, because you have to search out a reconstructor, and a lot of times it's so hard to find because someone has unknowingly picked it up]. Situations like these are just bringing me down.

But no online game is without the noob or douchebag, so I endure.

it's a private game with friends. Rhinos and Sledgehammers. It was a blast.

I haven't played it, but from everything I hear, the multiplayer is what makes this game stand out. In fact, most of the gaming podcasts I listen to have said nothing but great stuff about the multiplayer. The common concern being that it was attached to the single player game, which they don't expect to do so well and thus not many people to play with.

I definitely have considered it's halo vibe. I think that's just due to the pacing of it though. It's the backpacks and destruction based modes that reel me in.

much fun. and that's the perfect map for it. I love plowing through walls with the rhino and sending someone unexpectedly flying.

This game is a ton of fun, but it's quite repetitive to me so I play it in short parts here and there.

Destroying stuff is the best part about it, hitting EDF troops with the sledgehammer, singularity bombs, nano gun, shooting down EDF fliers, causing huge explosions.

I'm gonna go play it now!
