Music/Media Player
What music/media player do you use?
I used to use Winamp, but it didn't like all the .wma files I ripped. It said it supported them but on shuffle appeared to ignore them. If this happened now, I probably wouldn't notice with .mp3's out numbering .wma probably 3 to 1 now.
I currently use Windows Media Player 10.0 for everything, unless a video doesn't play, then I try divx player or VLC media player. Among the three I can play just about everything.
I tried WMP 11 but A. it was a resource hog, B. there was no easy Play All music button, and C. it wasn't easy to edit ID3 or really edit anything for that matter. So I downgraded back to WMP 10.
Another thing I've been wanting to do for a long time is normalize my collection. Today I was reading an article that talked about Replay Gain that normalizes your collection. (I believe Winamp does this as well.
So currently I'm giving foobar2000 a try, but I'm going to miss album covers showing whenever a song is playing. Not having to play with the volume while on shuffle all the damn time might make up for it.
What features keep you using what your using?
Think for yourself. Question Authority.
If you go into the forums foobar has quite a few wonderul extensions (including album art panes), when I was on a PC that's what I used. Now I'm on a mac though, so it's iTunes.
I think WMP 11 is pretty awesome...

I think it looks pretty and had potential but damn near crashed my system every time I clicked next song.

*Shrugs* Never did such a thing to me...
Also, an easy Play All music button is, go to your library and click on any song...
iTunes is the only good one, sorry.
I'm not actually a big fan of iTunes, but it's pretty much the only viable option on a Mac. It's not bad, but I personally preferred foobar.
iTunes on a pc. 'Cause I got the pod and I love coverflow.
I use foobar and iTunes. foobar is awesome, it takes very little memory.
VLC coz it plays FLVs ripped off youtube and MOV files which means I never have to open Quicktime Player WOO!

Yeah, VLC for video all the way (or Media Player Classic is pretty groovy too).
iTunes all the way. It's sublime. And no, i'm not an Apple fan, i use a standard PC.

VLC plays everything; all the other media players I've tried are picky about what they'll play.
In terms of music, definately Winamp. I used to use Windows Media Player but it kept crashing the comp and making it lag.
I've never used iTunes before, but most people I know say its a pain in the arse.
I like itunes, except when it starts deciding shit on its own.

You gotta teach it who's boss. Hit Control+T and put the video on. Then turn it off. That gets some revenge on it.
Not sure why though.
I use WMP 10.
I don't like Winamp because I don't have the patience to edit/create playlists. On WMP, I can just use genre lists as playlists, they're quite easy and quick to edit
I didn't like WMP 11 because it no longer has those drop-down tree menus. They are really helpful for me. I ended up downgrading to WMP10 after a couple of days.
Never tried iTunes.
As for videos, VLC too.

Good article, it's about how the music industry is still a bunch of assholes. Read Part II as well, again about how shitty the music industry is and how most pop music artists use software to correct their horrible pitch.
