How to make a Photo Portfolio?
I'd like to make a photo porfolio, but don't know how. Not really looking for links people googled, but if you think its helpful, then I'll read it. I want to make a CD for the portfolio, so I can submit it for a job. Tips? Do's or Dont's?
Thanks in advance.

What kind of job is it?
The CD thing comes with a few complications -- you need to put it in a universal program, one you're absolutely sure they'll have. You might throw together a fancy slideshow only to get a call from the client a few days later saying they don't have the program to open it. Even if you put the needed program on the disc for easy access, it might put them off to have to install something just to look at one photographer's portfolio.
Anyway, PowerPoint'll work, although I'd avoid any cheesy transitions (and PP has a lot of them) -- just a simple fade in, fade out will do.
That said, most photographer's post their portfolios online. There are sites that are free to join in which you upload your photos to their server and it spits out a nice, clean gallery, complete with thumbs... you can even password protect them for individual clients. It's also a lot more convenient. Instead of having to look around for that CD you gave them, they can just click on a link and they're looking at your work.
Here's a sample from one I use: http://www.pbase.com/rrgibbs/jamie
There are quite a few templates to choose from provided by pbase, or you can find others by running a search (kind of like myspace)... some with borders, some without, different fonts, etc... I just like the plain black one for contrast. A lot of people like the gray.
Whatever you do, keep it simple and professional. You want the pictures themselves to be the focus of attention, not needlessly complicated borders or background colors. Anyway, hope that helps?

Ive used ImpactFolios before and that was pretty helpful. But what really worked for me was just a slide show of my work. I did it on PowerPoint. It was classy. It was autoplay.
When you do it you dont want to just throw your stuff together. Have a theme. Pick your best stuff. Make the photos come together almost like a story, you know?
