I'm not sure what you are looking for when you say "make" a website

If it's not a commercial site, you should start out with a free host like http://www.geocities.com. There is a simple page builder there that you can play with.

I was just looking at my dotphoto.com site and it created a website on my behalf. It's free - you might check it out. Here is my page... http://texicali.dotphoto.com.

no no no, hah I'm not wanting to use geocities or any free domains at all. I am going to buy a domain name and webspace. Sorry, I wasn't very clear at first; I was wondering if anyone knows good prices on webspace or domain names and also if anyone is good with web design or knows anyone else that is.

for example:

Ah ok I see.

I have my own site for my pics http://www.rohurley.com.

I'll check with my isp to see what deals there are. I do know if you buy a package it comes with an easy web site creator.

I happen to do web design for a semi-living. What are you trying to build? How many pages? What kind of info? What's your budget? PM me if you want to talk more...

Also, GoDaddy or 1and1 have pretty good deals on domain names (usually around 8 bucks a year), and hosting on GoDaddy for small sites is 4 bucks a month.

Ok here is my info... my host is 1and1... they gave me a link that would take $50.00 off of your annual rates for the first year the rate would be $3.99 a month for the beginners package. http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=6411996

I hope that helps you.

I recommend BlueHost (full bias disclosure: that's an affiliate link so if you signed up I'd get credits).

I've set up several clients on their servers and been very happy with them for the most part. There was one incident where a maintenance guy wiped out the index files for one of my clients, along with the backups, so they aren't perfect. But that was a weird isolated incident. If I had been backing up properly during development of their site, it wouldn't have been a big deal at all.

BlueHost offers "cPanel" as its control panel backend, which is very easy to use and gives you the ability to make your site as simple or as complicated as you like. If you want something easy like a myspace page, you can install WordPress with a few clicks. Just go into the "Fantastico" menu from the main control panel, and select WordPress on the left. It pretty much walks you through the rest.

If you want to see the control panel backend demo, go to the "Tell me More" link on the main page. From there you'll see the link to the demo, which shows you the stuff that can be done through their panels.

Good luck!

I'd suggest go for a simple blog.

www.blogger.com -- 1GB for pictures (it saves your albums using picasa).

Or use the wordpress template on BlueHost as jase suggested. Don't use wordpress directly. It provides very less space and you can't add running scripts.

I wouldn't advise flickr because its just an album not like a website.

Also, this would be a good place to put this thread: http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/community/forumdisplay.php?f=20 - The tech subforum.
