actually, Alien/s got me interested in Giger, after a friend casually mentioned to me a long time ago that Gigers art somewhat inspired the look for the monsters.

My favorite artist by far is Dali. Fucking amazing work. Cannibalism in Autumn, amazing painting, hilarious, brilliant, disturbing, incredibly.
And Corpus Hypercubus is great, too.
And the man himself, fucking incredible.

He didn't just inspire it, he was the concept artist who created the Alien. In fact, they had him redo it because the first design was too blatantly sexual. I'll have to dig up my DVD commentary and find the exact quote, but I believe the implication was that it was very vaginal looking.

both great artists (escher/giger). i have the original "Giger's Alien" book from Morpheus Press, and a lot of the imagery he did for the movie's conceptualization was pretty overtly dirty. pussies and cocks and tits. oh my!
i don't think there was anything too typical about dali though. we have his museum here in st.pete, florida and if you view the work in person (it reproduces verrrrry badly), you might change your mind.
