Dear Atomos, Bioshock 2
I found this humorous and very exciting considering our conversation about tacked on multiplayer modes in games. I'm super excited about this:

It sounds like they're approaching it the right way. Any thoughts?

Yeah. the set up completely has me stoked. Bioshock 2. The Sequel/Prequel. Speaking of splinter cell, that's one concern I have. Since another studio's working on the MP, I really hope it's not too drastically different as far as controls, although it's own vibe in story and settings is very exciting.
I remember Splinter Cell and how it always bewildered me that the FPS aspect of MP was terrible, while tom clancy has such a top notch FTS like R6.
It seems a reasonable thing to attempt. With Sequels always building upon some preexisting game structure, they have room to dabble with MP, and since it's a different team entirely doing it, though hopefully it won't suck at least it shouldn't detract from the single player campaign.

splinter cell though, is always single player first. and montreal is making it, and montreal doesnt usually fuck around. i dont remember, but i think shanghai made both double agent and vegas the first. they did good with vegas, but double agent was just bullshit, if you ask me.

Yeah. I'm hesitant but very curious about the new splinter cell. Double Agent just didn't really have the freedom suggested in choices. and I'm fucking tired of scaling around ledges over and over.
The new one however, seems much more fast-paced. You seem to be able to move horizontally across ledges at a more fluid speed. and they've implemented their own take on a V.A.T.S. style system, which is actually nice after playing Fallout 3. (I was worried it'd take away from the action, but after playing it I now know that not true.)
We'll find out soon enough. So many games coming out this holiday season. Very exciting.

I loved vegas as well. The cover system was smooth. I love that it's not such a "snap into place" feel. The sequel was fantastic as well. I didn't know how they could improve on vegas but they did in very subtle ways. tagging targets when scouting a room did wonders. That's definitely a game that's single player and multiplayer are two different experiences. SP is so strong because the classic RB6 strategies. MP seemed much less tactical, falling into the average FPS game types. But I love outsmarting people. so that kept it interesting.

i am holding out for reviews in Bioshock 2. Bioshock 1 was fun but i never felt like i needed to finish it. Didn't care that much for the story. I know i am a minority on that one.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
I did enjoy the story. But beyond that I really enjoyed Bioshock for it's plasmid system. It reminded me a lot of Deus Ex: Invisible War (xbox), also a FPS where Bio-mods Enhance certain abilities. That was such a great game as well. And I've heard of a sequel to come to the 360, but haven't looked into it yet.
Most stories, video game story lines seem forced, generic and an obligation of the game itself. Bioshock is one of few recent games to integrate the story a great degree into the gameplay.
Out of curiosity, what turned you off about the story?

For me i just saw that you either get totally inmersed in it or in my case lose interest. I just didn't find the story as something i really wanted to engage and see the conclusion of it. From that i mean the mood, the enviroment, the events.
Which is weird because all my friends kept thinking that it would have been a perfect game for me since i love morbid, violent games. For example Dead Rising is my favorite game on the 360, and the story was crap compared to Bioshock.
I had the same problem with Fallout 3. I just couldn't get inmersed in it.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
Bioshock's story really goes to hell about 2/3's of the way in.
This guy wrote a blog about how the game SHOULD have ended, which would have been very awesome. In fact, 2K should be hiring him to help out with Bioshock 2.

I loved dead rising. But I couldn't get into it, because I don't have a HD TV. The subtitles are otherwise indecipherable. My new roommate has a huge HD TV though, so I plan on finally sitting down with that to pass the time before the holiday game season.
And I completely agree, in the end the story doesn't necessarily make or break a game for me. Red Faction has ABSOLUTELY zero story beyond liberate Mars. I loved Bioshock and Fallout for the gameplay. I loved the bio-mod system of bioshock, and I'm a huge pack rat when it comes to games, so I can spend hours in fallout roaming around.

now i am wanting to see the ending. I guess ill finish it once and for all.
So...We are still going to die. Right?
you should do it anyways, its not long or hard. i beat the whole thing in no more than a handful of sittings.

they delayed Bioshock 2. So i guess now i have more time to finish 1.

its possible that this could be cool, or just pretty words so they can throw in a hack-kneed call of duty style online structure. i dont mean to be a downer, but this is most often the case. see also list for this includes THE DARKNESS. off the top of my head, that was the most disappointing multiplayer i have ever seen. the only good tack-on, and it was only good for a tack-on was SPLINTER CELL. im with you in the *hope* that this doesnt suck, but you have to look at it as disc space. is that disc space adding something really cool? or is it just taking space away from something that should have been really cool?
