Civilization...

So, I bought Civ3 few weeks back. (I know there's a 4th one but it won't work on my computer)
The game is really fuckin' long.
I'm playing as Japan! I really don't know all there is to know about the game.
So...has anyone played this before?
HOW DO I MAKE MONEY?!
can i print it?

My mind can not grasp how anyone any where at any time could possibly find anything enjoyable about games like this.
I used to love these games! I've played a few of them, most CIV2 but also one of the sequels where it has future governments and technologies and stuff.
My tactic was also to focus heavily on development and science and stuff, get as far ahead as your enemies as you can. Build 'Wonders' as well, focus on the ones that give civilization-wide benefits. I'd generally try to spread out as much as I could, the first thing I had my new towns do was make two new settlers so I'd spread out exponentially and dominate whatever continent I was on. After a little while you'll find which cities are best placed for development and you can make those the hub of your empire.
That's about all I remember for now.
!
Oh yeah, and from what I remember you get money automatically from taxes when your population grows. That's another reason why you should build as many cities as you can.

Hey man, it's the only way I can rule the world!! via game

Thank you!

Another thing I remember from the games that I played, it might be different in the one that you're playing-
if you view a particular city you can set the ratio of Taxmen:Entertainers:Scientists. If you increase the taxmen people get less happy but you get more money, and the more people there are in a city the bigger the effect this will have. If you're experiencing civil unrest then increasing the amount of entertainers will make you citizens happier, but it'll cost you. Same thing with scientists, you get faster development but less money.

You socialists are all just power hungry...
"They sold you hippies grunge, hip hop, now liberty activism."
I think its one of my favourite games of all time. As Mike says it helps to spread out fast and to get as many luxury/resources as possible, especially as some only appear when you research them (uranium, oil etc) and the more land you have the better chance of it being within your borders.
If not - go kick some ass for it
"What cha readin' fer??"

FUCK YEAH.
(aw. you can't see that i named one town CrazySexLand)

Nice! Looks like you're ready to kill that blue for being on your land... railroads help a lot when mobiling troops.
