I've recently made the jump to Firefox (and haven't looked back), but I'm wondering which add-ons are worth installing. There's a helluva lot to choose from.

So far I have the Autocopy and Tabbrowser addons.

Any other recommendations?

Yeah, as of last week, I'm on Firefox now too, and am loving it. The ad blocker they have it so seamless, you don't even know it's working.

But one thing I do miss is the little clicking sound Internet Explorer gave you when you loaded a new page or clicked a link on a page.

Firefox is so quiet, I sometimes thing my volume is muted. And as crazy as it sounds, I don't like that.

So is there any sort of add-on to get that clicking sound effect?

ps
Also, when I'm typing in a message window such as this, my mouse wheel doesn't work on the outer page. I have to click outside this box to scroll further down the page. With IE I didn't have to do that.

Well, I'm going to spend some time scrolling through the list of possible additions, so I'll mention any gems.

The autocopy feature is just a small extra, but very useful if you are a designer or do lots of text copying from the web. Basically, anything you highlight onscreen is automatically copied to the clipboard for pasting later.

It's not going to change your life, but pretty cool.

Firefox makes cool t-shirts and I don't think Explorer ever did that. That's why I use it.

I like "show image"
A shitty thing about FF is that it kinda times out on loading lots of images sometimes with slow 56k-ers like me, and keeps some unloaded.
Show Image lets you right-click on images that didnt load and load them.

Zoom Image is really cool too, but totally gimmicky. It makes selected images 10% - 400% bigger.

Did all you guys know about tools/page_info/media ?

It lets you save EVERY bit of media that the page loaded. even embedded flash or quicktime movies that you cant right click.

EDIT:
And my favorite thing, Gifs can move a LOT faster in FF.
Test this in FF VS IE

Something I discovered about FireFox the other day, which I love, is the fact that, when I right click a picture on my harddrive, or on the internet that I want to turn into a wallpaper (desktop background) it gives me the display options right there and then so I can Tile it, Stretch it, or Center it.

This may not sound so crucial, but I change my desktop wallpaper almost everyday. And friggin XP has this knack for just stretching everything by default. So that I always then have to go into my Display Options to fix it. It gets very tedious.

Well with FF it gives me that option before I even set the Wallpaper.

What good thinking from the programmers! Smile

I think IE just has a lower cap on how fast it can go. It doesnt make stuff faster. If I made a gif at one frame a second it would be the same on both.

Also, firefox supports the PNG format's alpha layer. In IE my sig has a light grey background. In firefox it doesnt. PNGs are much better than gifs for transparency, but no one uses them because most of the world cant see them properly.

FJ,

Actually one firefox's flaw is that it plays animated gifs too fast. This is a well known bug that has been around since mozilla first came out. 1FPS, is closer is speend to 2FPS

Alright, Minuet... or anyone else that can help me:

I just started using Yahoo webmail (the free account) b/c AOL still hasn't pulled their head out of their asses with this blacklisting our domain name thing.

And in FireFox, I notice that the Mail Editor toolbar in Yahoo's Compose Mail window, doesn't appear. In Internet Explorer, it's there. With all the B for bold, and I for Italics options you'd expect in a decent Mail toolbar. But not in Firefox.

I've been searching around for and extension for it with no luck yet.

Any ideas?

Ok. I searched for the better half of my morning yesterday, looking for something that could fix this. I always noticed it, but I dont send emails often, so...it never bothered me that the tools werent displeying in Yahoo!Mail.
Sooo, I went to FF Support Forums and asked about it, and still havent gotten a reply and I am not too sure I will since I have to search for it and its already about 5 pages lost in Thunderbird Support....Here
Ok, I went ahead and bumped it. And I will continue to bump it every chance I remember, til the problem is addressed. Smile

Dude, you rock bigtime.

This is very cool of you to put this much time and effort into this already.

Let me know if anyone gets back to you. If not, then seriously, don't pursue this anymore. I feel bad enough already that you dedicated a whole morning to it. Lol.

Haha, no worries. I want to. They should fix it. If not FF, but Yahoo!
I do not know who`s compatibility side it is on. Maybe I need to hit up Yahoo about it, too.
But, as long as it addressed and someone notices, for the sake of being able to have everything FF and Yahoo! offers, for the people that useboth of their services, would be very beneficial to have the problem fixed.
So, no worries. I will keep an eye out for anything on this and get back to you if I find anything. Smile

This is the number one reason I don't use firefox. I use/need all the formatting tools with Yahoo and I generally write 20-30 emails a day so no way am I switching back and forth between browsers. I'm stuck with IE for the time being.

I've actually started to find quite a few issues with using FireFox here at the Cult.

It caused me no end of problems getting into and posting in the Public Groups. I'm sure it's FF related simply because everything works hunky dory with IE.

I'll look into it further. Might be worth noting for any future issues with people not being able to post etc...

Yeah, it would be good to know what issues firefox users might have. FJ pointed out that you can't see colored names like the gold sponsors or the red/pink combo I used on valentines day. Well, you can see the names, just not the color, it all looks white.

Stuck with IE? Poor Mirks. Sad

The add-on that I've just discovered is the e-mail notification one. It works a lot like MSN messenger as far as alerting you that you have a new e-mail, yet it also shows you a snippet of the e-mail. Very useful, I feel.

I'm sorry, describe this add-on again. Sounds interesting, as I'm in a drought as to good websites to browse around on. And I could use some navigational help.

sure I was quite enjoying it last night it led me to all kinds of funny and cute websites without having to think of something to search or browse for.
once you intall the update it'll ask you to sign up with a userid and then It asks you what kind of websites you are interested in and then once that is set up up simply press the stumble button on the toolbar that it comes with and it will take to a website in one of those catagories that someone recomended. there are then buttons to let it know whether you liked the website or didn't. You can also recomend and reveiw websites to put them into the rotation for others to stumble upon. The program saves the history of what you have stumbled upon so if you want to visit something again you can simply reveiw the history and go back to it.

I like image zoom, it's great

I also like Firefox's tabs, middle click a link in the mouse and it opens it in a new tab, also the shortcuts Ctrl + W for closing a tab, Ctrl + Tab for s witching tabs, very handy.

View Image, Copy Image URL, all great additions to the right click menu
