im in the market for a PDA but not really.. i need something that i ccould write appointments down in, and not much else, at least for now, as im starting the interview, job hunt part of this endevor im on.

i went down to office(something) earlier today and they had a whole bank of PDA's which was pretty much a bank of empty cradles, it looked like a going out of business sale. anyway the selection was sad. so im bored now and i dont feel like going home in the rain so i wander over to fred meyer (its like wal-mart) and they have nintendo DS systems.. so it dawns on me that i read somewhere before the DS was released that nintendo had licenced the palmOS for the thing.

so, if anyone can tell me if this is sorta possible with the DS, it would save me a lot of money potentially.

about four hundred bucks for the asus.

to answer your question about the DS.. No, you cant use it as a PDA. But if you need to monitor your blood sugar levels, a GlucoBoy for the N-Advance, Im sure would come in great use.

You can raise a virtual dog on the DS though, can you do that on a PDA? I don't think so.

You know you all want virtual dogs.

God, I really want a Nintendo DS.
Yesterday I was with my friend and her little brother and we were in the Game shop looking at all the new consoles etc, and the Nintendo DS just looked so brilliant. The physical look of it sort of reminds me of those old school handheld Nintendos which came out before the Gameboy, called 'Watch and Play'. The thing is, it'll be like my Sega GameGear, or Gameboy pocket and Playstation: I won't be able to afford all the games, and by the time I will, they'll have brought out something better and will have stopped making the old ones.

yeah i know how ya feel. im drooling over the PSP because in the coming months i will be spending a lot of time on the bus, and waiting dor the bus, ya know? but $250 for a pocket system seems a bit much. even if it plays videos, music, video games, surfs the internet (when hacked appropriately) especially since it doesnt come with a game.

plus memory for the PSP is extortionate, you'd end up paying more for the memory to store a movie than the actual PSP itself

I bought PSP.

beef:
Not enough memory. Not even close.
Game selection totally sucks ass right now
The price, straight up
The price, counting all the shit you need to optimize it.
No multiplayer without high speed internet (which isn't provided to where I live spare satellite) and hacking.
The movies need to get cheaper. Don't worry about the selection because it's pretty much set to blow up with a bunch of cool flicks, but the price right now on them is not agreeable.

Mario 64 is on DS now. I loved that game. Bleh.

Maybe once it gets up and running this'll be a good invention. But on the now, not so much.

normally i would be of the same line of thinking. however a PDA isnt something i see a lot of difference in (manufacturer wise, anyway) they fall short of me being able to build one on my own, which is the only kind of computer i will ever own. if i were to buy another pre-built computer it would be for the monitor, if i could get a flat one, and some parts (ram. hard drives, a card reader slot)

whats the difference, performance wise between the seemingly overpriced asus and the dell anyway. keeping in mind i dont need email so much. and i cant remember if they both supported handwriting recognition.. but that would be a plus

why bother buying a premade for any of those parts when you can buy those parts separately for much less?

anyways. i have an Asus and I wouldnt go anywhere else for a PDA, just as I wouldnt go anywhere else than Creative for sound, or Seagate or WD for Hds, or Abit (so far) for mobos.

I go for quality. Dell can kiss my ass just like Compaq and Gateway. But, I build my own pcs, and yeah it sucks you cant build your own PDA, wish we could, but we cant. Thats why I say Asus, because its the closest thing. Wink

because my bone head brother needs a computer. i gave him my old one which was hosed beforehand and now it wont even stay on. so i would buy one with the parts i want, strip them off, and therefore we would both be happy and on the whole it would cost me less.

i picked one of these up on ebay for 170 bucks.
i realized today though that the description on ebay says windows '02. the manufacture site says '03
you think its a typo on the seller's part?

Serious - get one. GET THREE!!! for sure, i love these things. It's FUN gaming. Plus there's Metroid. I think Nintendo have totally got the 'easy to learn, hard to master' type of gaming down.

Mario 64!! I can't wait to get mine. I'm going to get either a pink or blue one just because Dogz is free with it and that game looks like a few days of fun.

Animal Crossing is a wicked game, try that. Warioware is the best! Yoshi touch and go looks awesome, drawing clouds to save baby mario and shit.
Castlevania games are always wicked.

I want to get Fifa 06 and that new Harry Potter game Smile

I'm just apprehensive because those bastard Nintendo creators will blatantly bring out a new console in a week and'll stop making DS games before I can say 'Bob's your uncle'.
That's what happened when I got the gameboy pocket. I hate my life sometimes.

Oh, I must give in... I want one so much...

i got it on ebay, from another impulse buyer, it would seem. i got the gig pack, liberty city stories, and marvel nemisis. for just a little more than retail of the actual psp unit. only one or 2 dead pixels, and from what i can tell thats good even if it were brand new

EDIT: and a friend got me socom bravo team for christmas

I bought Narnia today for Nintendo DS and it's amazing! The graphics are the best i've seen ever seen for the DS.

So far the best games i've played have been Goldeneye Rogue Agent, Narnia and Sims 2. Nintendogs got very boring, Mario Kart was alright, and Battles of Prince of Persia is incredibly complicated.

The rumours about the DS having PDA capabilities are back, and twice as strong, since they bought out that handwriting recognition software and they seem to be leaning towards it.

Just sayin.

Yeah, I know that.

there was an article in NOM this month about it, so it made me think about this and how maybe after all the rumours and people expecting it to be a PDA they're gonna bring something out for it maybe. it's what it seems like.

that would definately be cool. it wouldnt be too hard to put a calander/appointment book in a cartridge. even if you had to buy a new one every year. i would do it. its more less than half as much as a pda either way

It's a really nice console too, pretty underrated.
The release dates for games isn't looking amazingly hot but some of what's coming out I'm stoked for. Like Metroid, geez I want it now.

And I'm all geeked up for Megaman Battle Network #whatever

I've put aside the two Marios for Trauma Centre. While at times it can be frustrating, doing surgeries with a handheld system is awesome.

A bit late, aren't you?

What games do you like to play? We should do swaps in the future.
BTW - avoid all those games that say they can teach you how to cook/paint/wipe your ass, they are seriously lame...

Anyway, I recommend:
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney
New Super Mario Bros (this is really good!)
Point Blank (i.e. the old arcade game)
Sonic Rush (although there is also now a game that has all four original Sonics)
Goldeneye

I also really want that new Pokemon game, but as I'm tight with £ i'll just wait until it comes down in price.

Awesome, I was looking at Pheonix Wright, Mario Bros and Goldeneye. That means I shall grab em.
