Do you ever experience a game in wich you were so focused on that you lost sense of the outside world? (like a videogame Stendhal Syndrome?) It happends to me with Silent Hill 2. I used to play it with headphones in the dark, when I put down the joystick I could still feel the game´s atmosphere and was really jumpy even about little noises...it was like being inside that freakin town, I loved that feeling) It never happend again, not even with silent hill 3 or 4.
Did something like that happend to you?

The Silent Hill series and Fatal Frame 3, did that to me. I would try and play them at night, but would stop after about 30min. I would get way to tense and turn all the lights on like a little bitch, goodtimes.

Kakunn, check out Fatal Frame 3, if you havnt already, you can find it cheap. I got mine from the guy in the apartment across from me for free, he couldnt finish it because he got to freaked out.

fucking Diablo II.
i quit playing it once i left for Iraq and have been back for months now without thinking about it. two weeks ago i saw it at a store and purchased it on impulse and now i play it for at least a few hours any day that i don't go out. unfortunately my internet connection is too shaky to play online very well, plus Blizzard doesn't given a shit about keeping the D2 servers up to speed since WoW came out, so i have to play single player, which takes much longer when it comes to gaining levels.
my roommate gives me shit about playing the game all the time, but all he does every night he doesn't go out is watch sports or sitcoms on tv. really, playing video games and watching tv are about equal when it comes to lack of productivity; at least i'm working on my hand eye coordination!

as far as consuming video games, Half-Life and Quake 1 are good head-phones in the dark games. i used to put on Day Of Defeat (a half-life mod where you play either axis or allies) and pump up the volume. the gunshots and ambience were very engrossing and i would daze out from the real world for quite a long time, especially when i was a sniper having to concentrate for long periods of time so i wouldn't miss when i saw a shot.

video games are getting better and better quite rapidly and so it's easier to get more absorbed in them, as they are much closer to real life than they used to be. shit, some of the games these days have so much little stuff going on, sometimes it's kind of scary. you can be standing there in video game world and you look up (move your mouse) to glance at birds flying by or whatever. Half-Life 2 and the newest Hitman have a whole lot of chatter from NPC's (non player controlled); i find myself stopping to listen in on random conversations that completely non-existance computer-generated humans are having.

While not quite to the level you're describing I find World of Warcraft pretty absorbing (Night Elf rogue lvl 21, bitches). Which is odd, because normally I hate that sort of Lord of the Rings, elves and goblins shit. And i'm not massive about RPG's either, but damn, even my dad plays it.

one of these days i'll get into WoW. i know enough people who play it. i need a better computer and a reliable, faster internet connection. it's crazy how many people are online playing that all the time. didn't the new expansion sell something like 1.2 million copies on the first fucking day? insanity.

I've been Civilization-ing it up resently, it takes a good 5-7 hours per game to play out and I find it hard to stop mid game, once I start l must play it to the end. only stopping to pee.

I don't know what it is specifically about FFXII, but there were times when I really felt like I was taking my party out adventuring.

Haha, I totally know what you're talking about. It's so easy to do if you let yourself get really into your video game. Silent Hill 2 was great too. I couldn't help but think about it all the time because I wanted it to end and I wanted to win.

Oh, and I have this thing where if I play a game enough, like 3 hours a day for a week, I'll start dreaming about it. It happened especially when I played Tomb Raider. I'd have dreams where I'd be best friends with Lara Croft and we'd have tea parties together. Pretty freaky.
