Mistake with Fight Club movie
I loved the movie when I first watched it and thought it was great, then I read the book and was impressed with how the followed it wo well with the movie but then the end the totally messed up. They should have stuck with the ending from the book, it would have worked out so much better. They could have the option to make a sequel, I think CP should make another book called Project Mayhem, and it can explain what happens after Tyler.
This is just my thought feel free to disagree.

I disagree.
The ending in the novel is ambigiuous as hell. Exactly what happened after Jack killed Tyler? Institutionalized? Really dead and in heaven? Hell?
Movie watchers are a different breed altogether, especially those who don't read at all. Trust me, my roommate's one of them dullards. To convey that form of ambiguity in a film, when the average movie watcher needs closure on a good story, regardless if said story is sequel worthy or not, is like celluloid suicide. And even then, there was still no full closure in the film, which may explain why it did so poorly at the box office.
Besides, there have been plenty of sequels made with closure in the original movie. In Hollywood, sequel means the original made profit. Though FC is a great film, it wasn't exactly the "blockbuster" everyone involved intended it to be.

Actually the novel was called Project Mayhem for a long time. Chuck changed it later to Fight Club.

Wow, sorry about the bad grammar and language, I guess I was in a rush and wasnt thinking right, I'm usually not that bad.
Vandamage: I see what you are saying, and it is true most movie people hate it when there is an ending that they dont understand or when it isnt exactly complete. But I think they shouldve had a bonus ending with the release of the dvd or something. Also another reason why it didnt do too well at the box office was because adults werent into it as much as teens, and on the account of it being rated R not as many teens got to see it. But now that it is on dvd nearly every highschool kid has seen it.

Dude! Shut Up! That Isnt A Mistake You Twat! A Mistake Would Be That They Left Lighting Frames In Clear View Or Whatever! Not They Changed The Ending!
It’s all a dream until you wake up and realize that you never slept last night and that’s real blood on your hands. The axe you can see in the corner of your eye, that’s your axe. You used it last night when you killed her. It all comes flooding back. Now you start thinking.
Where’s the body?
Can it be traced to me?
Who the fuck did I kill?
What’s happening to me?
I didn’t do this shit, did I?
I think Project: Mayhem would've been a great title as well, but if Chuck writes a sequel to Fight Club then I'm going to shoot myself.
Anyways, I like the ending of the movie better than the book. In fact, this is the only movie I actually liked better than I liked the book (which is tough, because the book is brilliant). But if you listen to the commentary with Palahniuk and Uhls, they talk about the changed ending, how it's a false happiness that they really like. Chuck compliments the ending, saying it makes more sense. He says something along the lines of "everyone thinks its nice and romantic, but the truth of the matter is there's still a building full of these project mayhem people waiting for them downstairs." Creepy to think about, which I didn't, until they brought it up. The point is that although Tyler's gone Fight Club and Project Mayhem continue.
The only mistake in the movie, as far as I can tell, is that in the opening sequence when the camera jumps down the building Tyler and Narrator are in, it shows the van with the bulletholed windows with the bomb still ticking, but at the end of the movie you see that Narrator dismantled the bomb and the building didn't blow up. Other than that, it's pretty goddamn solid.

You shut up you dumb fuck! So what if he's wrong. That doesn't make him a twat or whatever you feel like calling him in all caps. Fucking annoying...
I just assumed that the remaining Space Monkeys downstairs were distracted by The Pixies, allowing Jack and Marla to escape.
Yes, I'm a dork.

Doesn't Tyler reach down to plug the wire back in just before leaps down from the van (into the awesome 'shoe closeup' shot) ?

Nah Alex, I popped it in last night since I forgot how to take the security block of the TV and couldn't watch porn. Not to beat off or anything. Anyways, he says more to the lines like, "Everyone looks at it and sees it as this happy ending, and Jack and Marla are all happy, but no one see just how fucked everything really is."
As for the book and movie being close. no No and NO! Sucks that everyone is shitting all over you FPS, but seriously, the movie didn't really follow the book all that closely. They changed the order of certain things, cut things down, left things out, and added in some stupid stuff. I know you have to do that with movies, and it was done with THe Count Of Monte Cristo too, and that pissed me off, almost as much as when the screenwriter said, "If you want a close following of the book, read the book." What an ass.
I wish it'd been closer to the book. The more faces on buildings, the boss getting killed, the entire speech when beating Angel Face, not because I like guys, but the original meeting between the two. But, while I like the book ending better, the movie ending, clever little fight and all fit better for the movie. Showing him in that hospital or whatever would have really screwed the movie. Just my two cents.

"... got this store bought way of saying I'm ok..."
if you look closely, now that mr thread starter has made me feel bad for making him feel bad, the ending of the book and the ending of the movie are really that different- Tyler's gone. Narrator thinks hes safe- Spacemonkeys are still "waiting" for him- only in the movie you have to remember it and in the book its obvious. There might be more (or less), I read the book quite a while ago so its not so fresh.
As for the movie being better than the book? The only reason I liked the book better was because Marla said Tyler and Jack boiled her mother. Only reason.... I think... yeah.

Vampire, I know that every thing was misplaced and it didnt follow it exactly but if you look at some of the other books made into movies this movie did much better at following the books. I did like both endings I just thought they should have kept the ending similar with the book even though the movie ending provided more closure.
Also I didnt exactly mean there was a mistake with the movie, I was just presenting another opinion on what might have been better. I should have explained this a little better.
If you are going to disagree with me do it in a more mature manner and not by just calling someone first thing that comes to mind.

There's another. In the scene where Tyler's getting the shit beat out of him by "Fuckin' Lou", the camera cuts back and forth between the two. First shot of Tyler's face - he's normal. Second shot (and maybe third, I don't have the DVD with me to count), there's blood all over his face. Then in the next shot, it's clean again - no blood. The shot lasts maybe a second - it must've been an error in editing. I've listened to all the commentaries (I think) and I've never heard mention of it. Anybody else spot it?

Yeah I see what you are saying, thats kinda the point of this thread, I wanted them to change the ending to fit with the book (expecting much from movie people), and was hopingeveryone else would be able to deal with the other ending with a somewhat incomplete ending (expecting to little of people).
Thanks Stoyan and Judah, I dont mean to be a noob or anything, I know its sounds like it though, I just wanted to discuss CP's books and express my own opinion about some things.

It's refreshing to hear this from someone with some shitty internet cartoon of a teddy bear getting violently killed as his avatar. You're so adorable.
Nothing is true.
Another thing I found odd...the building they are in, where Tylor sticks the gun in Jack's mouth, and where Spacemonkeys file in with bag full of beers and such, that building was actually part of their target until Jack dismantled the bomb. So, if that building was supposed to blow, why would they gather there?
Actually, another one I found odd...Jack dismantled only one out of however many truck bombs inside the building, yet, that building doesn't blow up with the others.

Witty... an ass with a hole...
FIrst Person Shooter King.
Its boring, uninventive and generic. I have played video games too. I know what it means, and I have seen a million people with names like it. FPSWARLORD. FPSNINJA FPOS SOLDIER D4rk N1NJA... all that bullshit.
I see kids with these names, even my age, get on, and all they say is "OMG HAXOR" OMG THIS" "OMG THAT". Immature and annoying. Which lead tme to a false conclusion you say. But please dont try to be witty in insulting me aka "ass with a hole, you know, asshole" Hardy har har har fucking har...
You come in here, in a section of the forum directed towards the book, and spout off about the moivie, when, to much shock and dismay, there lies a forum where the movie can be discussed. O MY. Scroll down on the forum. Look around. Read some of the threads. Than post your own. Thsi website does not revolve around you or me, so have some respect for the other threads. If there is already a thread about this, a recent one, whcih im sure this is, we dont need it reguritated all over the forum again. Just go post in that thread. You dont need to draw attention to yourself, just particpate. The one thread you did a good job with was the coffee cup thread.. that made sense and belonged there.
Then you make the same suggestion every single 12 yeard old who has seen FIght Club makes.. "OMG I WANT A SEQUAl" and you tell us what you wanted to see what Tyler would do next. Im wondering how closely you watched the movie, seeing as Tyler is dead at the end of both the book and movie. Its just Jack, the Tyler persona has been wiped away, he is no longer suffering from MP Disorder. And I am also wondering if you just wanted a sequal to see what other stuff Project Mayhem would blow up, which isnt the point of the book or movie.
Stoyan. WHat kind of name is Stoyan? I dont really care, because its yours, its individual, and its different. You have it as your own name you made for yourself, and it fits you. But FPS King? There are a million little gamer kids with that name. Because I used to play alot mor egames than I used to, peopel with those kinds of names online piss me off. FPS KING, FPS GIANT.. FPS RULER OVER ALLS OF JOO NOOBS, people like that. The name turned me off right away.
And the whole douchebag thing..
look at my name.
Look at how many times I said douche.
It was a joke.
No one can seriously say douche without laughing.
Ever.
So calm down. Take a breath. Look at my post. Read it aloud. Could you, in a normal state of mind, take it seriously?
and as for the everybody likes mean people argument. Good move. I got carried away.

"... got this store bought way of saying I'm ok..."
The building they were in may or may not have been the building with the bomb in the bottom of it. Tyler said he had a great place with a view all lined up and he didn't say it was in the building Jack was going into. He beat up Jack, then moved to the safe building, I'd imagine.
In theory, that's what happened. But the camera goes from jack with the gun in his mouth straight down the side of the building an into the parking stucture of the building they're in, with the van with the bullet holes in the window, to the bomb which is now ticking, but at the end of the movie (prior to jack with the gun in his mouth), the bomb is disconnected. so the only way that it'd get reconnected is if jack, tyler or a space monkey reconnected it, which means that building is going to blow up which means they didn't move to a safe building which means they're either liars or this is a mistake and i win. so ha.
they didn't move to a safe place, that's the reason tyler says "we won't relaly die". He thinks they won't die with the explotion.
In the book 8and possibly in teh movie too, but I haven't seen it in a while), the Narrator says they are on top of the Parker-Morris building, and then he says "The Parker-Morris building won't be here in 9 minutes", etc. (chapter one)
They gather there even if it's supposed to blow up because they don't care about themselves, about living or dying, they are the crap of the world, and they are enslaved. For instance, this is shown in the scene where Tyler (movie)/the mechanic (book) drive the car with Narrator and a couple of spacemonkeys, and almost kill everyone inside. Narrator gets freaked out but the spacemonkeys and Tyler/Mechanic are cool with it.
Namer of a thousand names, maker of meanings, transformer of the world, your parents and the parents of your parents continue in you.
in the movie they're in the same building where they defused the bomb, it's still in the van with the bullet hole in the basement, but the bomb is now going again, even though jack pulled the plug, so yeah the building's going to blow, but technically it's not supposed to because jack took care of that.
it shows them in the building that doesn't blow up, and then the camera drops down the outside and into the parking structure and into the van, where the bomb is still ticking. so if the bomb still ticks, why didn't the building blow up? i didn't listen to the director's commentary, but in chuck and jim uhl's commentary, they talk about how they love the falseness of the ending--you feel like it's a happy ending because jack and marla are together in love, but the reality is they've still go to go outside and deal with the monkeys in project mayhem.
and if the bombs were supposed to be in vans in the buildings' basements, why were the windows being blown out on the upper floors
*bump*
This is only deserves to have the opening post read.
the only mistake i found with the movie was that it didnt originally have Keith David as Tyler !!
aside from that it was ok
I was sort of happy that the movie did not use the book's ending. It works perfectly in the context of Chuck Palahniuk's novel, but would not jive with the movie.
There were certain scenes that I would have liked in the movie that did not make it. Tyler using all of Marla's mother's fat, priceless.
The only mistake with the movie is that it should be called Fuck Club and it should just be about men fucking men and ass fucking and cum and shitty penises and dicks that have a shit taste. Yeah.
