Fight Club. Better Then A Psychiatrist?

don't some psychiatrists let patients do the beat the hell out of things with the nerf bat as therapy?

A book or film, no matter how profound and eye opening, could never take the place of a really good therapist or psychiatrist. Or just a person that listens and understands. It also can't take the place of actively working on your problems either.

I had to deal with very intense hallucinations that played with all of my senses. In other words, someone could be standing next to me, and I could be chatting away with them, only to find out they were a hallucination.

Sometimes the hallucinations were worse and more far out. I ended up dealing with it by documenting what the auditory hallucinations would say to me. It actually really helped me understand the sources of the voices, a long with talking to people I trusted not to just be looking for excuses to put me on pills.

Funny you should mention psychiatrists and fight club though. My shrink recommended it to me when I told him my experiences that led to me covered in scratches and bruises. He said "sounds a lot like a book I read. you should read it."

I think it is its better than going to some crack pot lame ass excuses for a doctor that you dont know at all and telling him all that crap about you.

Fight Club gives a message. In some ways, it's stop people getting to the point where they need a therapist. It's like a warning or an eye-opener, but it couldn't replace a therapist. Therapists are for specific problems, that you are struggling to deal with.

The amount you pay for therepy is crazy. They listen to you whine and they sympathize and give advice and you're stuck with a fat bill. Probably advice you already know if you sit down and consider your problems. I say make a friend or if you can get theraputic release from a book,movie,or whatever go for it. You'll come out alot cheaper.

How much do you pay?

maybe they charge on a sliding scale depending on how crazy you are?

I feel alot better after reading or watching Fight Club than I do after a session with a therapist.

That, and I want to beat the shit out of someone.

Fighting/ any type of intense physical exercise is probably better than a psychiatrist as it hard wires your brain to be able to tolerate more stress as well as releases endorphins to make you feel happier.
