Well I have seen it about three times, and I can say that I fell asleep seeing it the second time. I really disliked it.
Did you guys like it?
or was the book better?

I read the book first, along with every other book written by Mr. Palahniuk, and I hung out at The Cult for a few months. Only then did I see the movie, and I loved it, in fact I was surprized how closely it fit to how I imagined the story. I think if I had just seen the movie first, I would have hated it, in fact I would have been thoroughly and prudishly turned off by it, but I have a much higher tolerance for violence now or something. If you're just falling asleep when you watch it, it sounds like maybe you are already too desensitized. You don't torture small animals and eat babies by any chance, do you?

I saw the movie first and loved it. And its not about the violence so even if you are desensitized that shouldn't make a difference. The plot is just incredible.

I loved the movie. Totally kicked my ass. I didn't know about the book when I saw it. The narrator character, early on, his fruitless, pointless life, it really hit home for me. The way he took things to extremes in the other direction, it was hilarious and thought-provoking to watch.

Compared to the book, it's a different animal. The book treats the Marla character quite differently (better developed), but philosophically much of the meat of the book stayed intact when it was brought to the screen. The endings are totally different, but both endings have their own merits, and complement their respective mediums.

For me, the movie and book both effectively convey the extreme ends of a balancing act in the search for identity. At the start, the narrator defines himself exclusively through posessions. At the end, he's defined purely by his actions. And in different ways, his life is a disaster at both the start and the end. The difference is that by defining his life through actions, his life took on a meaning that was completely absent before. What I took away from the movie (and book) is that the disaster aspect is ultimately unimportant. It's the meaning that matters. Better to be God's worst enemy than nothing, that's an message that shakes a corporate lackey like me down to the core. Perhaps it's obvious to some people, but when your lead a sheltered, watered down existence, it's a tough pill to swallow. Finding a balance between playing it safe and expressing yourself is a tough thing to do, but the first step is to lose your fear of failure. Fight Club helped me to see that like nothing before it in my life.

Cheers,

you suck.
fight club will not make you interesting either.

The movie's aged poorly. Brad Pitt's, "Look how crazy I am! HaHA!", schtick had a limited shelf life back in 1996 and Fincher & Co. are obvious dilletantes when it comes to the darker themes of the book.

i liked both. but i think that the movie could have been more translated from the book directly. why not? the book and movie were so close as it was.

the first time i saw the movie it was the very end when the buildings were being blown up. after that i was like- ooh. so i looked it up online and saw that it was a book, too- so i read the book and then saw the movie.

i thought the two were very similar and i absolutly loved the book and that was the only reason i saw the movie and read ever other book by chuck.

does that make sense? i think it does...

I liked the movie at first, but after reading the book, found there was just so much more to get from Chuck's story that the movie didn't show. Yeah, the book was better, but when is the movie version of a piece of literature ever superior...the only problem is that I will have higher expectation of his other book-turned-movie projects, having already read the presumably superior print version.

Personally, I am a bigger fan of the movie version. I think it did tidier job telling the story. One scene in particular I didn't like in the book is where Mechanic and not Tylor is preaching while driving in the rain. This isn't to say book was bad. It most differently isn't.

And another which I thought movie was superior compared to the book was 25th Hour, which was adopted for screen by the author of the original source.

I myself am conflicted trying to judge what the superior work is, the book or the movie.

These two novels belong to a league of their own. They definitely set the par much higher for adaptation.

I saw the movie first, which is normal cases would ruin my read through of the book, but in this case I think it actually enhanced my read through, but I guess I'll never really know.

One plus for the movie is that it got rid of all tha Irish pedestal hooha, that I think Chuck Palahniuk said he never really was happy with including, but did so for a friend. I believe I read that somewhere.

It wasn't so bad. I saw it first and then I read the book... loved the book, went back to the film and felt it was somewhat lacking. As such I probably won't get it on DVD. Sure, it has its moments and it isn't a horrible movie, no way, but I just don't love it as much as I do the book.

Fight Club is my favorite movie, I saw it long before I had read or even heard about Chucky P. I'm glad I saw the movie before reading the book, because it would have sucked to have ruined the ending. Its actually the only movie I have liked better than the book it was based on.

The perfect world would exist(for me) if David Fincher did every Palahniuk movie.
