What is there not to like ... but maybe if you have read the book first ... I dunno, you could have been disappointed or whatever.

I sure hate ALL the Bret Easton Ellis books that were made into a movie.

I loved it. I saw the movie first, which is where I first caught Chuck's name. Watching the hella cool opening credits, I saw 'based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk' and literally rushed out to get the book. Either way, I loved it... no disappointments.

I too was introduced to Chuck's work through the movie. The movie made such an impact on me. I tried recommending ti to everyone I knew. Of course I know a lot of idiots. "I didn't get it." or "It was too slow." or "What?" Dumbass responses.

Yeah, it's annoying when people don't get it. I swear to god, I watched Fight Club with my cousin and after the movie we turned off the DVD player and pressed imput, the channel happend to be set on MuchMusic(MTV,basically) and my cousin looked at Justin Timberlake and said, "Sweet, he's wearing a diesel shirt. Have you seen my diesel hat? It's sick, dude".
I felt like slapping him. After seeing him walk in with his media influenced clothing and haircut, carrying a cel phone in his hand that he never uses, I felt in some way that he NEEDED to see fight club.

Anyways, in response to the main topic of this thread, I loved the movie. I seen it first, and found the rest of Chuck's books from it.
The only thing that I didn't like about it was that when I later read the book, I already had a high image of the characters and I wasn't able to build my own image of Tyler Durden.

First thing I said after the ending:

"Let's watch it again. Do we have time to watch it again? As in, right now? Please?"

i have it on dvd, every now and then i watch it again. Everytime i see those corporate buildings blow up i get the chills. I prefered the way the movie ended to the way the book ended.

It doesn't hold up to repeated viewings. Unlike the book, it ages terribly because you notice how shallow its convictions are.

'The first half is, like the book, handled well and (more or less) realistically. But after that it gets into glamorizing, happy-crappy Hollywood bullshit.

Fincher is only a visual stylist, it's too bad there wasn't someone around to steer the narrative in a better direction.

At 26 years old, I rank in at the lower cusp of generation X. I barely 'got' this movie when it came out, but barely was enough. I saw it four times in the theaters when it was released, and have since seen it countless times on DVD and VHS. Like many here, the movie was a crash course in Chuck's work for me, and I have since read all of his books.

I see the generation Y's coming up, and unfortunately things havent gotten much better. They're going to need their own Fight Club for their generation undoubtably. Whenever I hear the term, "sick" used to describe something that is "cool" or "sweet" my blood crawls. I guess the torch has been passed.

At any rate, Fight Club the movie is a dramatic masterpiece as well as a techinal triumpth. Unbelievably underrated, Fight Club is relegated to a cult following. Yet as Generation X ages, I can see the movie gaining attention.

Read the book. Loved it. Watched the movie. Loved it and was surprised to love it. I was all ready to off of one about how films ruin perfectly good books... but couldn't. One of, if not THE best book adaptation I've had the pleasure of watching.

I then proceeded to pimp the film out to everyone I've ever met, and some totally random strangers also. Luckily I've had positive results every time. My sister (40 year old, average chirpy mother of three) found it hysterical. My Mum (60 year old, grandmother to fifteen) loves it almost as much as I did. She stole my DVD a few months back and still claims I'm not allowed to have it back yet.

So, either I have an odd family, or it has more general appeal than people give it credit for.

In my case being too closed minded was my only excuse for not getting it right away. i'm glad somebody had the guts to wake me up.

Great movie, loved every frame. Introduced me to Mr. Chuck P., how could I not love it? Also, David Fincher=god.

I liked it. I actually thought in some ways it was better than the book, but then I re-read the book and decided otherwise. I think the two compliment each other. Like the the yin and yang coffee table, only after it was blown up.

i especially enjoyed helena bonham carter's performance in the movie. her acting makes the "marla" character in the book really come to life. she was totally amazing.
