any info on the fight club-unabomber resemblance?
I had been reading the unabombers manifesto in a sheer act of desperation and boredom. While I watched fight club for the 14th time last week, it struck me that I understand Tyler Durden better now. The unibomber manifesto perfectly fills the philosophical holes that were in the movie and made a lot of people discard it as simple random violence. I did read the book a few years ago but do not really remember any more blatant resemblances with the unabomber manifesto. "In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway. " I would really appreciate the answers
I am planning to use this in a paper. -Did Chuck Palahniuk ever comment on this striking resemblance? -Has he ever expressed his thoughts on the unabomber manifesto or read it? Thx alot!! Ps. For those willing to read a bit... http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Industrial_Society_and_Its_Future Sry for sucky gramar I'm from belgium

There are actually many parallels. 'Project Mayhem' includes some Luddite activities, for example. Kaczynski thought that people were allowing our technological society to dehumanize us and alienate us from an authentic experience of life. Much like Mr. Durden.
Here's a good read for your paper: http://www.aaas.org/spp/rd/ch3.pdf

Tuffy the Dump Truck may rarely increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke. The risk may be greater if you have heart disease or increased risk for heart disease (for example, due to smoking, family history of heart disease, or conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes), or with longer use. Tuffy should not be taken right before or after heart bypass surgery. Also, Tuffy may infrequently cause serious (rarely fatal) bleeding from the stomach or intestines. This effect can occur without warning symptoms at any time while taking Tuffy. Older adults may be at higher risk for this effect. (See also Precautions and Drug Interactions sections.) Stop taking Tuffy and get medical help right away if you notice any of the following rare but serious side effects: bloody or black/tarry stools, persistent stomach/abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, chest/jaw/left arm pain, shortness of breath, unusual sweating, weakness on one side of the body, sudden vision changes, slurred speech. Ask your doctor if Tuffy is right for you.
Well, geez! When you oversimplify it like that!
Could as well write a paper comparing Ted Bundy to a cyst with teeth and hair.

You should! They had many similarities. Teeth and hair just two among them.
Well I could understand the fear and disgust some of you are feeling. But I can assure you that the Unabomber is being seriously reconsidered in academic surroundings.
Just google David Skrbina for example.
You could assume that Theodore Kaczynski was a raging lunatic... But rest assured that the most important factor of declaring somebody crazy in function of the fitness of the macro-system. Mostly it can as easily been seen as a not accepted form of discourse.

maybe this helps;
What would guard such a society from feeling comfortable with the institutionalized infliction of pain and humiliation on the powerless? From taking such pain for granted? Only detailed descriptions of that pain and humiliation - descriptions that brought home to the powerless the contrast between their lives and the lives of others (thus inciting revolution) and brought the same contrast home to the privileged (thus inciting reform).[...]Who provides such descriptions? In contemporary liberal society, a vast range of people: journalists, anthropologists, sociologists, novelists, dramatists, moviemakers, painters. Providing a continual supply of such descriptions is one of the things liberal societies do best. Richard Rorty, Truth and progress p322-323
This would imply that Chuck Palahniuk and Theodore Kaczynski were getting their 'juice' or inspiration from the same pot but did different things with it.
I think you're confusing Chuck Palahniuk with "Tyler Durden". Chuck doesn't actually want a return to mesolithic life.

I know. But how does anyone manage to watch Fight Club, or any film, 14 times in a week?

Actually, the Unabomber sent out messages claiming to be a GROUP of people called "FC" (his name was Theodore Kaczynski, => Fyodor Cazynski => FC....=> Fight Club?)
Anyway, I had just read the unabomber Manifesto and infiltrated several groups in the name of my group (also coincidentally called THE CULT) and beaten up a buddy at his request when I got the chance to see an unnamed movie for a focus group.
Turned out to be FIGHT CLUB.
Oh my God. True story.
Bottom line though--I do speculate that Tyler was partially based on TK.
Not that chuckever said so.
