When does Diary get going ?
Im on July 14 i think and so far its been nothing remarkable at all.
And its half way through the damn book !!
I've just read the chapter where she has been sick and has the headche.
I gave up writing my shitty book because It sucked and I'm not clever enough to be able to finish it.
the book does get better as it goes along, but it's not near as fast paced as any of his other books.

glam, while i agree with this sentiment, perhaps we *should* ruin the entire book for her, give away the ending, etc. it would serve her right.

Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
Theres not much to ruin. This book left me unsatisfied.

You know it's deep, insightful commentary like this that just keeps me coming back for more.
What does that mean?
I hope it doesn't mean that my comment isn't valid because I didn't like the book and subsequently didn't contribute to Chuck's 24/7 circle jerk.
i respect your honesty, but i detest what you're being honest about.
i don't know what he meant, Valchrist. that's too bad you didn't like Diary, or the ending of it, or whatever. not many people enjoyed this book as much as they liked his other ones. ah well.
Maybe at least something approaching an explanation as to why that is the case should have been included. This seems something that happens more and more, one-liners dismissing/praising a certain piece of work, and it really gets on my nerves.
Obviously Valchrist, I don't know you from Adam so it was not intended as something personal. I am certainly not advocating that this place be a CP fanboy only forum. Prior to Diary, I was less than satisified with Fugitives... and Lullaby, but I always try to include the reasons why when discussing them - particularly when it involves a recommendation to another person.
Yeah but I wasn't making a general comment on why I didn't like the book. I was just responding to something.

this is why valchrist was termed "ennui" earlier during the whole flame warriors debacle.

hmmm, that's a good point. OK everyone is really from outer space and they blow up the planet.
As much as I'd hate to admit it, I'm inclined to agree with Valchrist on this one. I'm on page 200 so far give or take, and already I've decided that this is my least favorite Chuck book. It has its moments and quirky one liners, but unless the ending blows my mind like the ending of Fight Club or Se7en, then yeah, I won't think much of this one.
Suck me beautiful...
Maybe he should have put some pictures in it to keep you guys entertained. I thought it was brilliant, you'd have a hard time finding a better written contemporary novel.
lol vendetta.

the worst argument against people who dislike a book that you liked: you're not intelligent enough.
people say this about the matrix reloaded too, it's a cop out argument.
what's a cop out is saying something sucks just because you're not patient enough to try to understand it.

I never said it sucked. It's probably better than 90% of all the crap that's put out there. Just saying that it didn't live up to my expectations. Maybe because Chuck has spoiled me with so much greatness that this one dissapointed me a bit. I give it a 7 out of 10. 10 being Fight Club and Survivor. 9 Being I.M., Choke, and Lullaby.
Yeah okay vendetta, more pictures. Right.
Kitty, sorry hun, but this one didn't do it for me like the others. Nothing to do with patience or intelligence, just taste.
glam, exactly.

I never said anyone wasn't intelligent enough to understand it, I would never be so arrogant or presumptuous. Well, maybe, but I'm sorry if I insulted anyone..I was just making a wacky joke!
1. Im not a she.
2. I loved Matrix Reloaded
3.This book seems just like Auto pilot Chuck.
4.The day Chuck writes a book where at least one character doesnt have cancer will be the day Metallica release a bubblegum pop album.Give it a fucking rest.
5. Typical Chuck book synopsis :
Lead character is weird.
Complete strangers tell her in depth details about random stuff.
Someone may or may not have cancer.
Middle of book will go off on some weird tangent.
I gave up writing my shitty book because It sucked and I'm not clever enough to be able to finish it.
Wow Squall, you're so clever. I bet everyone wants to be your good friend.
wait...who had cancer in survivor?
and it was never said anyone had cancer in diary, just certain things caused cancer. oh and lullaby, who had cancer in that? Invisible Monsters, i thought shane had an STD, i dont remember cancer...
maybe im forgetting though, if so someone please remind me.
also vendetta, i wasnt really sure if you were saying that or not, but it was of the same ilk and i just had to say that, sorry if I offended.
In survivor...um...doesnt fertility say the waitress has cancer but she doesnt know it.
In choke...well....thats the whole reason i gave up on that book.
In fight club...Marla.
Maybe not in Lullaby...
But in every single Chuck book, someone gets disfigured.
FC : The narrator
IM : ( forgot her name !! )
Survivor : Tender gets fat and malformed
Choke : probably someone i didnt finish it, but doesnt denny get all twisted due to the balls in his arse ?
Lullaby : Forgot her name but she eats the pearls and gets fucked up.
Diary.not yet but i am waiting.

This is maybe going to sound sarcastic or I don't know what else, but i assure you, I'm only asking out of curiosity. You seem not to enjoy Chuck's books -sometimes you can't even finish them, you cannot handle the mention of diseases, WHY then do you read them? Is it a masochistic streak in you and you love to hate them?

And looking for similarities in five books written by the same author....?
Yeah, I think you'll find some.
It's really a good thing if you read one of his books and want more like it, like most people have experienced. You don't usually have to worry about one of his books coming out like Danielle Steele or anything. His style and themes are what we like about his books. None of them are too repetetive (for me at least) for me not to like any of them.
I dont hate chucks books at all.
It's not diseases per se I dont like. Its just that one.
I know i'm not special because I've lost a family member to it, but it seems to affect some people more than others and it affected me a lot.
I had to stop reading choke, because who wants to read a book that sort of says " This is what will happen to you if you ever get what you are most scared of "
And i just didnt need that.
I just want to know if Diary is gonna be as descriptive as choke and more importantly, when does it actually get exciting ?
Thank you. Squall.

oh yea i remember the survivor one now.
btw to your earlier post, i enjoyed matrix reloaded too, but I didn't think it was some incredibly intelligent piece of work and that would be why most people hated it, that's all i meant.
Diary gets going on...
Friday.
Hi, Mom!
Best new poster post EVER.
Thank you, this book is boring. I'm not interested in the fat lady, but then maybe that's my own personal bias. It's not just fictional fat lady's I don't like, I don't much care for the real ones either. Sorry if anyone's offended, I know that there's always alot of fat people, (pretending their not), on line. I'll finish the book anyway, I don't have anything better to do.
that about sums it up.
