What character wrote Diary?
"Its not really until the last page that you find out who has really written this supposedly third person book," Chuck said in that audio interview thing on the front page of this site.
Just wondering if anyone knows if there is a crazy twist at the end that I did not get. Because he said that it would be a boom twist ending but I just don't see it.

Yeah, in August 27 and one-half, it does say: "Just for the record: this is Harrow Wilmot talking." But what it means is that it's Harrow explaining the "evil plot" to Misty. I suppose when a book says that "it was raining cats and dogs" you immediately think of the mess all that blood and guts will make...
For the record: I can say with 100% certainty that it is Misty who wrote Diary (well really it was Chuck Palahniuk, but you get what I mean).
It's never too late to stop killing people.
Should I feel special that diary basically ends on my birthday?
Fuck no! I did think it was pretty cool though and then...
I kinda think Peter could have written it, after he came out of his coma.
Oh wait, that's impossible.
Maybe the daughter?

"This is not a porn appreciation class!"-Windus
Or maybe it was Will Tupper?
Oh. Wait.
He's an idiot.
No chance he wrote it. No sireebob.
HOWL AT THE MOON COUGER!!!!!
What I think is kinda strange is that the last page says she wrote the diary hoping some white trash girl would read it and save herself from this life, yet the whole book is written like it's intended reader is just Peter. I just think it would be written differently if she wanted her future self to read it. A little more " don't go to the island you stupid girl", and a little less "peter, you're a sack of shit. and your mother is fucking useless". dunno. just me.
The reason the "peter you're a sackof shit" stuff is in there is because she didnt realize until later that she was being built up by the people of the island, it started off as a normal diary, then led up to the ending.
But Misty never started the diary until after all this stuff happened.....
Would it be possible that Grace wrote it. It says that Grace was writing a book about Misty's painting. It's a stretch, but it did say that. Maybe Tabbi took it with her.
When you hold nothing sacred everything is funny
Two options.
(a) Harrow wrote August 27.5, and possibly more. Misty wrote everything else.
(
Harrow wrote the entire book.
Evidence for (a): "For the record, this is Harrow talking." Yes, Harrow wrote this part, but there is no way he could've known about the forest scene, or the museum scene, or the exact dialogues between Misty and Angel.
Evidence for (
: Maybe Peter, Grace and Tabbi told Harrow all of the details he needed to know. This still doesn't explain how he knew about Angel's actions, but that fact could be attributed to artistic license (either from Harrow or from Chuck). If Harrow wrote the entire diary, that would mean he guessed all of Misty's private thoughts and emotions.
More evidence: The speech pattern in August 27.5 is exactly the same as in the rest of the book.
Perfect evidence: When Misty finds out about Peter and Angel, Peter is described as 'closeted bisexual'. However, two pages later Misty is wondering, "Peter was gay?". My conclusion: Harrow, who wrote the diary, knew Peter was bisexual. He guessed that Misty, confused, must've thought her husband was gay.
I'm honestly not sure who wrote the Diary. Both theories seem to be possible, yet both are horribly flawed. Let's just say a wizard did it, mmkay?

I can't believe what I'm reading. How can anyone think that anyone besides Misty wrote the diary?? Of course she wrote it, everything says she wrote it...it wouldn't make any sense for anyone else to write it. I'm getting angry.
Either you didn't read the entire topic, or you skipped chapter August 27.5. Not everything says she wrote it.

The Misty Wilmot character wrote diary. She changed her name to Nora Adams after the events in the book and "sent" them to Chuck. I believe the real Nora Adams was won of the winners of the contest held earlier this year.
"The elite ruling class wants us asleep so we'll remain a docile, apathetic herd of passive consumers, and non-participants in the true agenda of our governments - which is to keep us separate, and present an image of a world filled with irresolvable problems, that they, and only they, might one day, somewhere in the never-arriving future, be able to solve. Just stay asleep, America, keep watching TV." - Bill Hicks
