My review! (no spoilers)
The book was good. It wasn't like his other books. There seemed to be less of the philosophy of Fight Club or Survivor, but still a good plot-driven story. All this nonsense about the twist ending, well maybe I missed it, but I wasn't really too surprised by anything. Kind of corny at the end, I expected a little more, but don't skip ahead to read it, EVER. It seemed to read quicker than the other books. Seeing Will Tupper as a character was really odd. On a scale from Lullaby to Survivor, I'd put it here:
Survivor
Fight Club
Choke
(big gap)
Diary
(big gap)
Invisible Monsters
Lullaby (I didn't like Lullaby, did I)
See, it's all by itself, right in the middle. I think maybe it goes by how much you can relate to the narrator, maybe that's how it goes with how much I liked these books, I don't know.
In conclusion, Diary is pretty good. Different. But still interesting.
"The world will little note nor long remember what we say here." - Abe
"Having now finished the work assigned to me, I retire form the great theatre of Action; and bidding an Affectionate farewell to this August body under whose orders I have so long acted, I here offer my Commission, and take my leave..." - George
"The rest is silence." - Bill
sushi's list matches that of many of my friends. you don't live in salem, OR, do you?
no, probably not.
my list:
survivor
fight club
lullaby
(moderate gap)
choke
(gap so big that, since space is curved, it is really more of a ridgeline)
invisible monsters
if the excerpt is a good indicator of Diary's quality, it will probably fill the gap betwixt lullaby and choke. but then again, the end could change all that.
i need that like i need teeth in my asshole.
I feel like I'm the only one that liked Invisible Monsters. I'm also probably the only one that didn't like Choke. Well, I don't live in Salem, Oregon... but I live near Salem, Massachusetts; they burned witches there or something fun like that.

Wait. Am I missing something. Will Tupper was put in the book?
yeah, and in the title of this thread it said NO Spoilers! go figure.
"The elite ruling class wants us asleep so we'll remain a docile, apathetic herd of passive consumers, and non-participants in the true agenda of our governments - which is to keep us separate, and present an image of a world filled with irresolvable problems, that they, and only they, might one day, somewhere in the never-arriving future, be able to solve. Just stay asleep, America, keep watching TV." - Bill Hicks
Sweeeeet.
Wait a minute.
I was WHAT?!?!?!?!?
Oh shut up you big CELEBRITY, you!! Giggle giggle.
LOL. G5D, That's about the most surreal thing I've ever read on the internet. For real.
Doofus? Yes.
Poster Child for the Geek Generation? For sure.
Celebrity? Not so much.
Teh funney (and flattering) of you to say though.
Well, if you were here long enough, you'd know that Will won a drawing some time back where Chuck took the winners names and put 'em in Diary as victim's or whatever. It kinda pissed me off when the winners were announced and some lady just didn't check the site for a long time, so for like a month the front page read *Mary Jane Rottencrotch, contact me immediately!!!* I just wish Dennis would've put my name up there instead. *sigh*
Dude I've been coming to this site for a looong time. I KNOW that it was posted all over here that Will Tupper won in the contest. That's why I didn't consider it to be a spoiler. So if I spoiled something for any of you, well, that shouldn't be my fault.

I knew about the contest... I guess I just never read about who won.

Dude, I wasn't directing that at you. I KNOW you've been posting her a long time. Longer than me, that's for sure. I was directing it at bdw who, sarcastically or not, complained about the Will Tupper thing being a spoiler.
I didn't mind much. I've already read the book and knew that. I felt bad for those who didn't, and found out that way.

I never read that Will won the contest either. Anywho, how did any of you read the book?
Some ppl know ppl, and some ppl like me pay double, triple or even quadruple more for it off ebay. I snaged mine for about 50 bucks. There are plenty on there and growing everyday too.

I won mine for 30, should get it sometime this week! CAN'T WAIT! And, who cares if anyone knows a characters name in the book? Oh man, that's a spoiler???

When I finished this book I had a few questions lingering in my mind... I felt like I had it all figured out, but there were just 2 or 3 things I didn't get.
Well, maybe I figured them out, or maybe I just got some dumb ideas. But anyone who's read this already and thinks they pretty much got everything down, let me know so I can PM you and check... I don't want to make it into a spoilers thread, because people would read it anyway.
For anyone who hasn't read it and came here for a review: for the record, it's making me think a little more as time goes on, if that counts for anything...

well-you can pm me. I don't think i have everything down, like you i have got some ideas, but i'd like to hear a fellow fans thoughts.
For anybody else what I'll say about it, like any other Palahniuk book "Diary" demands multiple readings.
Which is a good thing.

I just got my advanced reader copy of Diary, but here's the list of Chuck's books so far...
Choke
Fight Club
Lullabye
Survivor
Invisible Monsters
well, you can pm me. I'd love to discuss the book with someone. As for Chuck's books, my least favourite would be Choke 9that is not to say I don't like it though). I love the others in different ways but equally fiercely. Invisible Monsters had a lot to say yo me, Lullaby I adore, Fight Club was what got me hooked in the first place, Survivor is cool and Diary... well, that's for later.

Thanks to bdw, I think I've got it figured out... but I won't explain because 1) spoilers, 2) you probably have it figured out yourself.

Your welcome Well. Second time through the book is much much better. I can't wait to dicuss with everyone else.

I read the excerpt from the link in the news, and I've noticed that Palahniuk's writing style in Diary is a lot different from the rest of his novels (maybe it's not, that's just the feeling I got from the sample).
Anyway, since you put your scale of Chuck's books, I thought maybe I'll do the same.
