Did Will Tupper win the contest?
Remember that contest Chuck was having involving the purchase of the Cult T-shirts?
I was reading Diary last night, and there were a few references to the Tupper House. Anyone know if he won? Just curious.
Suck me beautiful...
i'm pretty sure he did.
i mean how many other ppl are named will tupper?
i'm surprised chuck used it so many times though. he really worked it into the story.

Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
Thanks guys. Just saw that other thread too.
Suck me beautiful...
Aw, Kittty, I didna wanna spoil it for him. Yes, Will won. So did Nora.
he mentioned will specifically in Berkeley, and said something about how cool it was that will had won, since he had been corresponding with will for such a long time, and it was someone he had actually heard of. Something like that.
"I've never caught a jewel thief before. It's very stimulating."
Frances Stevens, To Catch a Thief
"Jeff, you know if someone came in here, they wouldn't believe what they'd see? You and me with long faces plunged into despair because we find out a man didn't kill his wife. We're two of the most frightening ghouls I've ever known."
Lisa Fremont, "Rear Window"
corresponding?
WILL WHAT IS YOUR SECRET?
i actually think will IS chuck, as was proposed by conspiracy theorists a while ago.

For sure. If Chuck does post here under a pseudo name, then it has to be Will Tupper.
Suck me beautiful...
Will actually gave me the confirmation letter he got from Chuck saying he'd won the contest. If Will is Chuck, he's really going out of his way to convince all of us that he's not.
There is hope, but not for us.
LOL. This is, for sure, the very best thread ever.
Of course, now I totally have to get off my ass and send Chuck a letter (I think he wrote me last, if I remember right). So thank you, Jordie. I really appreciate you telling me that.
And Kitty - I have no "secret" as you so eloquently put it. I just happen to like Chuck's work a lot, for a lot of personal reasons (most of which I'm pretty sure I've blabbed all about here on the Cult), and we've written a few times talking about them, among other things. No big deal, really. But it does mean a lot to me, as I'm sure Chuck knows.
And yes. My dear friend Jane (FYI - I got your letter! It came the day before I left to go to Ohio, which I'm going to later this morning for a cousin's wedding. I'll hit you back as soon as I get a chance. I promise. I love you!) got the confirmation letter that I... ah, "sent myself" about the contest. Proving that I am Chuck and Chuck is me and we're all a happy family. Or something.
Actually, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Chuck is Nora Adams, who is really Dennis Widmyer, who is actually Amy Hempel, but only on every other odd Thursday.
All the other days, he is really XChuck from the Forum.
But you didn't hear it from me!
It certainly, also, definitely doesn't matter. But I'm also mentioned as a character in these books:
1.http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1930997310/qid=1063428502/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-0654515-1088150?v=glance&s=books
This is Nick Mamatas's (who, ironically, doesn't really like me. Nor do I care all that much for him) collection of essays and short stories. The introduction, written by soon-to-be-Cult-Goddess Zoe Trope (see #2) recounts a late night conversation she and I had about to properly pronounce Nick's last name. Funny stuff.
And 2) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060529369/qid=1063428668/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-0654515-1088150?v=glance&s=books
That's the afforementioned Zoe's amazing memoir. You'll hear more about her @ the Cult soon enough (as in, soon as she gets home from Hawaii, and soon as I get some time). In it, there's a character named Tupperware, who is yours truly
. Also, the mysterious "Will T" thanked at the end is also me.
Zoe calls me her "fag" in the thank-you's. It took me about three hours to explain what she meant to my Mom. Good times, only not really.
I love you all!
PS - for those of you who have read Diary, I AM NOT BALDING. (And De Nile is more than a river in Egypt!
)
I still need those posters, Will....
I'm working on it, XChuck. Zoe's currently in Hawaii (just got a postcard from her the other day), but don't worry. I've not forgotten.
Oh, there's also a "William Tupper" mentioned in one of Stephen King's books. I don't remember which one, but it was released in 1988, I think. The year "the real" William Tupper (my Dad) was killed.
Freak-city, that one is.
Was your dad's death in the newspaper? Because if it was, maybe Steven saw it and just decided to use it.
Yeah, it was. That's why it might very well be. SK always lists the dates that he writes he books at the end of them, and this one (the title of which totally escapes me) fell during August of '88. So, yeah. That's kind of what I've always thought.
Is August after your dad died?
Jeez, XChuck. You'd be a good reporter.
I'm not 100% sure that's a compliment, however. Nosy-ass mother...
And yes, sir. My father was killed August 23, 1988. It was in the paper, and on the news on TV and the radio.
So, yeah. Who knows?
So I was in my car driving for six friggin hours today, with nothing to do but bite my nails and sing really loud and contemplate things.
I think that Will is Chuck's Tyler. I think that Chuck flies to Michigan every once in a while and gets his (Will's) mail and hangs out with his Michigan friends and stuff, and then flies home and resumes his life as Chuck. Think about it, people. Why do you think that Will has started posting less? He's on book tour!! Why do none of us know what Will looks like?!?? FIGHT CLUB IS ABOUT HIMSELF. I AM A GENIUS.
Aaaaaaand this is what happens when you mix long car trips and caffeine.
There is hope, but not for us.
Holy crap, I was reading Diary in class and I had never associated "Tupper House" with The Best Member. I also never any of the cultist had one the contest, so when i read "His name's Will Tupper..." I had the following thoughts and actions and words:
"His name's Will Tupper, and he-" Wait a second!
Woah! (I said it loudly, I might add)
::reads the name repeatedly::
Holy shit, I know him! He's the Best Member!
::struggle to supress giggling, then all out laughing::
Christ, I better get quiet, I'm gonna ge- Is that really him? Damn, why don't I know anyone in this class. I wanna say, "I know who he is!" Wait, that's not right.. I know who the character is named after. Wait, is Will Tupper bald now?
::Constantly looking around and glancing at book, face is now bright red and still trying to not laugh. Everyone looking at me::
I'll see my mom soon, I can show her. Ha ha! Is this just a coincidence? No, it couldn't be. I'll have to ask on the cult tonight. Wait, no, I'll look like a dumbass. I'll PM Will. Hold on, there's probably already a thread... Is that his real first and last name? I wonder how many people use their real names on the cult. I do. I'm special. But not my last name. But I've told them. Holy shit it's Will Tupper. Uh oh, I better put this book away...
There you have it. Glad I could share. By the way, I never got past, "His name's Will Tupper, and he-"
I just realized something. It's probably stupid, but here it is anyway. The forum will now be divided into two different groups. The older members who know all about Will Tupper being the inspiration for the character in Diary; and the newer members who will see Will Tupper's posts and think "oh how cool, this guy ripped off one of chuck's character's as a username".
Suck me beautiful...
Huh, yes, I've had the same thought. Will shall be known from now on as "Legally_WillTupper".

A damn dirty lie, yep.
What's a lie? I'm worried now.
There is hope, but not for us.

I want to change my name to "Legally_Narrator"

You'll see.
