could someone tell me why?
could someone explain why, aside from the slight change in genre, diary doesnt seem like it was written by chuck?
Maybe you should tell us why you don't think it seems like it was written by Chuck. It seems Chuckish enough to me. Maybe you just can't see past the fact that it's narrated from the point of view of an older woman rather than a young man.
ive tried, and i cant explain it. not even to myself. its not the character... just... i dont know. i was hoping maybe someone else noticed it that can explain it.
i just didn't care for it, i forget why, it was a chore to read.
that, it was. with every other book, i couldnt stop reading. i lost a lot of sleep. my girlfriend bought me three at once: fight club, invisible monsters, and choke. i didnt sleep that night. with diary, i only kept reading hoping it would get better.

After I had finished it I couldn't help but shake the feeling that it should have been an episode of the x-files. @_@ I didn't enjoy it very much. It had it's moments but on the whole it's not my favorite of his work.
Funny, I kinda felt that way about "Lullaby."
But it was still pretty good. Both of them. Maybe because I love the writing slightly more than the content itself.
Diary was my first Chuck book. I haven't reread it since, but it was decent enough to get me to read more of his stuff.

I got it for my birthday from my girlfriend at the time, and I didn't pick it up to read until the day after, and that was June 21st, and because it's a diary it starts on June 21st, and it was a pleasant surprise, and I liked it. I didn't like Choke or Lullaby that much though, in hindsight. At the time though, Choke was the second Chuck book I read, and I loved it.
I actually very much enjoyed this book. Though I've only read this book and two others, I didn't read anything that didn't sound "Chuck-ish." I found the beach scene that the book was placed around to be a little kitschy for my tastes, but that's just my personal opinion. Living at the beach does that to a person. But at the same time, when the climax hit, it all came together for me.
It could have been the voice that he wrote in; not the fact that it was an older woman versus a younger man, but that it was more of a thriller than a cynical outlook that his other books seem to have. Again, this is all my personal opinion, and I've only read a few books, so I don't have much to compare this book to. Hope this helps clear things up.
after all the bullshit with chucks dad... (or was it september 11th that set it off?) Chuck slightly changed his writing style....
I believe Chuck wrote Lullaby after his father's tragic murder.

yeah that was it. I dont know he just felt extremely dark wasnt the right direction. Am i correct?
I'm not a huge fan of Diary either, I felt like I sort of had to push through it and I might not have if it wasn't by Chuck. It's got some great concepts but it didn't grab me the same way his other's do.
Diary has one of my favorite quotes...
"We are, all of us, immortal."
I don't know why, but that's just always stuck with me...
I always feel that diary was Chuck trying to do a "Rosemary´s baby" type of novel. It feels like that one to me (wich is great because I love that novel). Does anybody had that sensation?
Diary is one of my favorites from chuck. I've read it like three times and the first time i read it i could not put it down. I loved the parts about graphology and all of the references to the different painters...it was definitely not a chore to read

In the edition of Diary that I read there is a letter at the back that makes it seem as though the manuscript for this book was sent to Chuck and he did not really write it. Is this a real letter from a real person or did Chuck write it himself?
Nora Adams? She's a real person but she did not write that letter, Chuck did. He had a contest for Diary and used real names from people that won a raffle. Will Tupper is another character that won the raffle. I can't remmeber the others offhand.
dairy is probably one of my all time favorite chuck books, he never stops amazing me with his writing style.
