Boston 9/11
I'm planning on going to see Chuck on 9/11 in Boston and was wondering how early I should get there? I think 6:00 is the time the bookstore says it starts. I have never been to ones of these so i don't know what to expect. Will he be signing books and reading a little from Diary? thanks!
When I saw him in California (at a few different readings) he arrived well before the official start time and started signing books. I don't know if he'll be doing that on this tour or not.
I recommend getting there 1-1.5 hours ahead of time if you want a seat. Bring friends and take turns holding your seats while the others browse or go get coffee or whatever.
My friends and I were the first to arrive at the Berkeley reading and he was already there. We had a chance to chat before more people arrived. He's just very cool and personable. If its your first time seeing him, you're in for a treat.

more info on the boston reading. hosted by brookline booksmith (www.brooklinebooksmith.com) at the Coolidge Corner Theater. It's easy to get to: take the Harvard Square T stop off the Red line. Coming out of the stop (inbound), the Pit will be behind the stop, you'll be looking at the corner. Harvard U will be behind you and to your right. Walk straight across the intersection, bear right around the corner, and it's across the street in front of you to your left. it's behind some trees, but you'll probably see the line.
get there EARLY. 1-1.5 hours is a very conservative estimate. last time i got there 4 hours ahead and still had to wait in line behind at least a hundred people. but we DID get into the theater...luckily...i think everything is more congested in MA.

Just so you know it's not in Harvard Square this time. It's in Brookline. I think the last time he was in Boston he was at the Brattle Theater in Harvard Square.
where's the coolidge corner theater then?
and don't you fuckin dare just say "coolidge corner".

They are charging two bucks for admission? This has to be the bookstores idea. I mean I thought the whole idea of a reading/ signing was so that the author and the bookstore could sell books. I'd pay more to see chuck but its kind of lame. Last year at Brattle they charged but at least you got to see FC on the big screen.

Just stay asleep, America, keep watching TV." - Bill Hicks
How did the one at Brattle Theater work? I've never been to one of these. You get in line, get your book signed, sit down, and then Chuck talks for a while?
kind of. except it's a lot cooler than that.

Never been to the Coolidge Theater, but since it isn't a screening this time it'll probably be like the Choke stop in Harvard Square. At that one he mingled with people and autographed beforehand, fielded tons of questions, told plenty of whacko anecdotes and read passages from his work. Then he autographed afterwards for a couple hours, keeping the store open late.
If you never saw him do a reading, it's spectacular. He completely has the voice of his narrators and knows them and their language perfectly. It's....damn.
Though the thing I'm most curious about is which assclown they'll get to introduce him this year...
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.
whacko anecdotes is the best.

What time is everyone from Boston planning on getting there on the 11th?
An hour to hour and a half before it's due to start. Though last year I just walked to the head of the line nd got in right away, so there's always that.
It's not easy having a good time.
Even smiling makes my face ache.
I need to find directions to this place. don't know if i'll get there in time, but i'm sure as fuck gonna try.

Coolidge Corner Movie Theatre, 290 Harvard Street, Brookline MA. Just do mapquest or something. Or check for directions here
i know, i will...it's just i work till five, which is the bad news. good news i work in woburn. bad news i still have to go across the city. good news is i know my way around the city. bad news is traffic in the entire eastern half of massachusetts travels at approximately 0.000000000002 mph on average.
so i may, in short, be fucked.

Yeah traffic sucks in Boston around that time. I live in Arlington so I'll just hop on the T and head in from there.
The Coolidge Corner Theatre's website says tickets are available at Brookline Booksmith for $2. Does that mean you need to get a ticket there first or does anyone know if you can just go to the theater and pay there? Thanks!!!
its sold out!!!!
i called today and they said its sold out, its not first come first serve like last year.... im sooo pissed!
What time does it start???
you have to be shiting me!!! sold out??? are you serious. that sucks!!! where did you hear that from?
FUCKKKKKK! It is sold out. I just called. The reading itself is sold out. The girl from the store said that you can try to get in standby at around 530. Or after the reading he'll be signing books at the store around seven. This is a FUCK!

For the past few weeks I've been so excited about going to this reading. Now it's just a big fuck! I wish they mentioned somewhere that you had to get tickets in advance.
Everytime he is in the Boston area the events are so disorganized and I have no clue why. The Choke tour was a joke, chuck himself almost got crushed by the crowd. So many people that had tickets to see Fight Club at Brattle theather last year got turned away from the reading because they didn't show up two hours early. I was lucky enough to have made it into the last few times, but this time I'm not so sure. fuckers.

no!
yes. its true. the girl at brokline booksmith said there may be some more signings at the store after the reading which is about an hour long. but if you didn't buy a ticket then you are shit out of luck for the reading.

shit fuck damn assholes i didnt know you had to get tickets either, this is fucking terrible, i missed it i looked forward to it forever. fuck shit cocksuckers
i emailed the people at booksmith and reserved a bunch of tickets, so we ended up getting in pretty fastma and sitting in like the 3rd row. i got completely screwed last year though, i didnt know the reading and fc screening were seperate things...

when i went to the lullaby one, he did sign books but he didn't read from the book, saying we could just read the book when he was gone. so he opted to tell what he called "vulgar and disgusting stories". a good time was had by all.
