Am I alone in thinking...
....this book is EXTREMELY underappreciated? It seems alot of people hated it because it wasn't enough like Fight Club or Choke.
:cussing: "But there was no suicide plane crashes or models with shot off heads it wusnt scary nihilist enough!":cussing:
It was different. It had it's own unique feel. Where as Chuck's first four novels, all though all different story wise, had the same exact feeling (to me anyway). Who wants to write the same stuff over and over and over anywhos? And who wants to read the same stuff over and over anyhows?
i wouldn't want another fight club or choke, they've been done already.
the story just didn't sit well, hence, diary goes at the bottom of the list of chuck's books for me.
I did like the idea of the diary format but sometimes i can't help thinking to myself, if this is what she's going through, how is she able to write this diary?

:yup:
Vendetta, I just KNEW somebody was going to say that!
Well I'm going through a phase at the moment where I make all the goofy jokes I used to think were beneath me.
Well you shouldn't do that. It's not good for your self esteem.
I'm almost positive that if Diary had been my first chuck book, I probably would have never read another one, and therefor never of had met you fine people.

poor Diary:(
Don't worry Diary, I still <3<3<3<3<3<3<3 you.
Thats funny cause Diary was my first Chuck book, and it let me to start reading every other book he wrote. Isnt it funny how we are completely opposite, yet equally awesome?
I really like diary. I liked it better than choke and lullaby.
diary's so odd and awsome
'fucker can you feel this?'
Ur not alone in this Ritt. I don't see why people are so negative about this book. I really liked this book, has i liked every other book from Chuck.
Sure this isn't so "fucked up" then the others, its a little more mainstream, but its still a hell of a good book!
The story its amazing, and there are so many things that are pure genious, like the philosophy that "Everyone's in their own personal coma.", that "fucker can you feel this?" its very strong point in the book, or the letter in the end...genious.
And there are many things, many thoughts that speak to me, maybe because i'm an artist too...
Well, i thought it was an amazing reading. Not just this book but every book i've readed from Chuck. What is amazing is that every book its different, and amazingly genious in a very different way for each book.
P.S:. Sry if something doesn't make sense but im Portuguese and my english isn't the best.

This actually explans a lot.
About Diary, it felt a lot closer to a Vonnegut-style novel than anything else I've read by Chuck. By which I mean, it doesn't really mater if everything is plausable, the fiction is so absurd it starts to feel like an allegory, and the whole thing works up to some kind of apocalypse. I'm thinking Cat's Cradle here, more than later stuff. But that's the vibe I got from Diary: definitely different, but I dug it.

You might be right. I haven't read Diary yet becuase lots of people said it wasn't any good. Maybe I should read it, huh?
i too enjoyed diary a lot more than choke..

Yes, you should really read it. Who knows what your take on it will be. (:

I feel the same way man. I totally agree that Diary is very underappreciated. And I agree for the same reason you do, but I also think that some people just might not have related to the book at all. Most Palahniuk fans are expecting extreme situations and violence and nihilism (as you stated). People said it was very boring and it took then weeks or months to get through and blah blah blah. It took me less than 2 days. I liked the book so much because I can relate to the art subjects that dominated the book. I was very interested in those subjects at the time and I therefore took a greater interest in the book. The whole thing about Stendhal Syndrome was also very intriguing to me. But anyway I liked Diary, probably my 2nd favorite of Chuck's, so maybe you guys who didnt like it should go culture yourselves and learn about some art :nana:
