the rocks falling down...the repeated theme of creating your own reality and reinventing things that already exsist, seems to me that it is the moment of him realizing that there was no foundation. His "mother" died, his love interest wasn't at all what he anticipated and the glimmer of hope he had was that he was special in some way was shattered...but when all was lost, (and the dust settles) he seemed to finally have his moment of zen!
As far as the novels I have read, I think that is the enlightenment...it isn't until your "addiction" is no longer desirable that you really find yourself!
