I would just like to mention that...

WOW these parents chose such similar names for their kids.

Does that have any significance otherwise?

A lot of Indian parents do that too. I had a friend whos name was Rinkal and her sister was Jinkal. I had another friend (unrelated to the first) whos name was Rimpal and her sister was Simpal. Also, all of their last names were Patel.

I think it's significant because Shane was the parents favourite in life - up until the strep throat result obviously - and then in death also. And the fact that Shannon has a similar name and is the forgotten one. In other words, they have similar names but are in no way similar.
That's how I interpret it anyway.

Just as a side note, my name's Shannon McFarlane - one letter difference! - and my mum was going to call me Shane if I was a boy.
