Chuck's best work?
This summer, I decided to make a run through all of Chuck's novels, again. With this session of re-reading, I have concluded that Invisible Monsters is by far Chuck's best work.
My updated ranking list:

Invisible Monsters

Survivor

Choke

Fight Club

Lullaby

Diary
I really didnt find Invisible Monsters that great.
Choruses seemed forced.
It seemed it was too constructed.
*waits for things to be thrown at him*
1) Choke
2) Fight Club
3) Survivor
4) Lullaby
5) Diary
6) Invisible Monsters
I am still glad I read it and own it, but I feel liek he was sayign alot more in the other books. All the stuff Manus says about God, it just seemed forced, adn unnatural. It just didnt click the way Choke did for me.

Choke,
Survivor,
Diary,
Fight Club,
Invisible Monsters,
Lullaby.
I've gotta say Invisible Monsters is my least favourite, although it does have one killer line: No matter how much you think you love somebody, you'll step back when the pool of their blood edges up too close.
Fight Club
Survivor
Diary / Lullaby / Choke (all equal 3rd place, depending which one i read last!)
Invisible Monsters
There's no clear reason why IM is last, i just think it wasn't grand enough in its scope, it was character driven by a character i didn't care about!
 i said it!
My list:
Survivor--meanders, but the best
Choke--kept attention the best
Fight Club--learned the most from
Diary--terribly underrated
Invisible Monsters--terribly overrated
Lullaby--something to do
I havent read all his books but so far I'm liking them all, I read 3 in about a week and working on Choke now (I havent read like this in forever), but so far it would have to be:
1)Fight Club: Has to be the best, best quotes, makes you really think and is just brilliant
2)Survivor: great twists and keeps you guessing and an ending that you alway think about
3) Invisible Monsters: Great book, but I have to agree its was over rated, great story though and good twists
Survivor
Choke
Fight Club
Invisible Monsters
Lullaby
Choke
!
Survivor
Fight Club
Lullaby
Choke
Diary
Invisible Monsters
I flew through Diary so I want to go back and read it a second time. And IM is waaay down on my list because I didn't really like it at all, so I'm going to go back and read that as well.
If we're talkin fiction . . . then this is my most honest list. Of date.
IM
Diary
Survivor
FC
Choke
Lul
My most enjoyed read was Survivor. I laugh out loud throughout most of that book. Everytime.

& FPS,
Dont worry, when you completely blow through the rest of Chuck's books (as most of us did), there are several more books to burn through with so many great authors that I personally have been introduced to here at the Cult:
Craig Clevenger
Will Baer
Bret Ellis
Alex Garland
Hubert Selby Jr.
J.G. Ballard
Joey Goebel (particularly Torture the Artist)
Denis Johnson
Amy Hempel
Hunter S. Thomson (of course)
Larry Brown
Albert Camus
Harry Crews
Don Delillo
Steve Erickson
Oh, the list will go for about a year, and that will only be the beginning
Welcome to the Cult

My list...
1. Choke
2. Invisible Monsters
big fall off...
3-5 pretty much the same: Survivor, Lullaby, Fight Club
seriously bigger fall off...
6. Diary
I bet if I searched for all my lists, they'd all be different. Oh well.
1. Invisible Monsters
2. Survivor
3. Fight Club
4. Diary
5. Choke
6. Lullaby
In addition to Kabol's recommended authors (and yes, Torture the Artist is terrific), I would like to recommend Michael Kun's stuff to Chuck fans.

He's a lot closer to Goebel or maybe Max Barry than Chuck or WCB ... but a good read.

nice, Adam. Thanks for the head's up
Steps, you'll find it not so uncommon here; in fact, I didnt start writing until after reading Chuck's books several times. Never even considered writing, at all. His work is inspirational. Yeah, Chuck, he's a bad-ass

still need to read Rant and Snuff so my list will probably change
"Sometimes your flush, and sometimes your bust, and when you're up, It's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on."
Blow
Has anyone read Rant? i'd say Rant and Invisible Monsters tie for the best.
I agree fully.
IM is deffinetlly his best work.
Except I think more of
Invisible Monsters
Choke
Survivor
Rant
Fight Club
Lullaby
Snuff
Haunted
I'm not a huge fan of his short storys
1. Lullaby
2. Fight Club
3. Survivor
4. Diary
5. Haunted
6. Rant
7. Invisible Monsters
8. Snuff
I've never read Stranger Than Fiction but I'm sure I'd like it. Also, I feel like Pygmy is going to be AMAZING & I have high hopes.
Invisible Monsters is definitely my favorite from Chuck. It was the first book I read by him and I instantly became absorbed. Since then, I have read his other novels and still agree that Invisible Monsters is his best. His other work is for sure AMAZING, anything Chuck writes is, but Invisible Monsters caught me by the throat and pulled me in.
And I love it.
Barely anybody rated Haunted, How come??
I'm new to reading Chuck's books but I LOVED Invisible Monsters.
I read Diary a few years ago and I remember hating it. I never finished it. It was the first of Chuck's books I read and after that I never got around to reading his others...until now. I plan on reading all his other books this summer
I am currently reading Haunted... ok so far, I'm not too crazy on the way its set up: Chapter, Poem, Short Story.

I would have to say that Haunted and Choke tie for first with me.
I'm not a huge fan of IM. I just can't relate to any of the characters aside from maybe Brandy. And that's only because she's making the best of life on her terms. As screwed up as she is anyway. But the protagonist is way too shallow for me.
And I walked away from the book going "Poor Seth..."
A good book should make you like the characters and want to see them succeed. I just kept hoping the main character would get something else blown off the whole time I was reading it.
Does that make me a bad person?

For me it's --
1. Survivor
2. Choke
3. IM
4. Fight Club
5. Lullaby -- with this one, I couldn't buy into the supernatural events so that's what put it at the bottom so far.
I haven't read the rest of his books as yet.
