thanks for the reply, but i want to know what you took from the book and your views. i saw it as pure anarchy. with everypage i turned, there was something else new. the way the book was written is totally against todays standards. this was my first book i read by him and my friend handed it to me and said "read it eith an open mind". it opened my eyes to many more things. every book i read by chuck has a meaning.

I was responding in kind to your post. Now that you have taken the time to share your views, I'll share mine.

I think it's brilliant in it's exploration of the obsession with celebrity. The book is funny, but also haunting. The Creedish parts are so incredibly sad. I thought the effect of writing chapters backwards, was a good effect and not cliched at all.

I don't see any anarchy in it at all. I think of it as a twisted love story and the yearning of all people to make a connection. Remember how much he loved his goldfish(s)? Remember how solicitous he was towards the caseworker?

true, but he was taught to be that way. and i didnt mean the book was cliched it was just some thing that set it apart from other novels. but it also shows how one man can overcome a past and eventually learn from his mistakes, from nothing to fame.

Oh, I agree, it's very different! It blew my mind when I read it. I was also given it blind by a friend.

I think there is redemption in the end when he abandons fame and runs away. His rise to fame is not his doing, he's totally manipulated.

true and a very good point. but also i saw the corruption of almost everyone around him and then he to started to become self obsessed. i just never understood the girl. i do have thoughts though. i see her as his redemption and salvation.

Yes, I agree, he fell for it because he felt important for the first time. And yeah, Fertility was his redemption and salvation. I thought her name was a good choice.

I've read them all except SNUFF. I don't like the subject matter.

Its really not that bad and diffenantly not as graphic as i thought it was going to be. my son has been trying to get me to let him read it and i wont let him yet. but he is getting interested in chuck. he loved fight club. and we both can not wait to see choke once it comes out on dvd.

Thank you for letting me know. There are just images I don't want stuck in my memory. So I am passing on the book.

Snuff is no worse than Choke in the imagery department. Too bad the story and characters aren't on the same level as Choke too.

I liked Rant, but skimmed Haunted. Should I read Snuff?

I only made it all the way through so I could say I've still read all his books.
The good news is it's only like 194 pages long and only takes like 4 hours to read.

I'll read it next time I'm on a four hour flight.

It was a slow one for me too. I skipped all the poems.
