wat i dont get is how the plane got back in the air if tender got off with fertility?
did the pilot take off and then parachute out without saying anything in the flight recorder?
chucks ending doesnt make sense to me...help?
Read more carefully, dude. Tender does not get off with Fertility, they unload everyone except the pilot, who parachutes out.
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
Oh its all bull!!!
I like was at B&N and totally ripped the cover up
you know what I found
NOTHING
LIARS!!
SICK MUTHA FUCKAS!
Haha, I can't believe someone actually ripped up a 1/1 of Survivor.
Only question I have is, what specific quote in the book identifies that Tender used a tape recorder? Like, can we get a quote with a page number? Everyone just states that 'it mentions a tape recorder in the plane'. That makes it theoretically possible that he used a tape recorder, but certainly not the type of deal where it's spelled out and we just missed it.
I felt bad reading it the first time presuming he was dead...but it felt right for the story. I came on here and read Chuck's ending, thought it sounded a bit cheap.
As for the movie, they never have to show him in the cockpit, and we'll not have to know whether he's talking or the recorder.
And I have no idea why more people didn't turn on to Haunted. Definitely Chuck's best sumulative work, though Fight Club will always be my personal fave.

The fact that Palahniuk has decided to make up a secret ending that only exists if you check his website is just lame. As far as I'm concerned, our Survivor in question went down with the ship (in this case a plane) and didn't have an anvil plot device to save him via cyberspace. Lame! The whole idea of it ruins the book for me, which is a shame because I otherwise enjoyed the book. I mean, if you read a lost letter of Fitzgerald's that said (SPOILER) "Ah ha, Gatsby isn't dead! He and Nick faked the death and ran away together. Remember I mentioned how Gatsby has money? He used it to fly them away. Ah, but you'll only get that if you're reading this letter," would you accept, based on reading the novel, that Gatsby is alive? (END SPOILER) I just think it's an interactive-ish gimmick that pulls away from the quality of the source material.

you don't need to come to this site to get the full story.
everything you need to piece it together is in the book itself
and also you need to peel back the binding to get the "full secret ending", which may be your point that you have to come here to find out to do that
which does suck that you only get that with the hardback and not the softcover version
Indeed, especially since I bought it in softcover.
I wasn't big on Gatsby anyways, even though Chuck likes Fitzgerald.

If anyone really did rip up their book and find the secret ending can I see a picture? Just curious how it's printed in there.

While I did not pick up on the tape recorder while I was reading it, There was a clue that I saw that let me know he survived.
When tender is first going to New York and is on the phone with Fertility he asks her "Will we ever get to dance again?" Or something similar to that.
From that point on through out the entire book they never dance again, That is how I knew he survived.
But I have never seen anyone mention this.
Hello all,
i'm new. i've read this entire thread and tried all the links provided but still haven't found the 'hidden ending'. i've clicked on 'survivor' & 'survivor ending explained' but that's just chuck's explaination, not this so called 'hidden ending'. so for the last time in this thread, does anyone know where i can find this hidden ending online as i only have the paperback version of this book (which i finished yesterday).
Right after a finished survivor a got to this page and read the secret ending. i personally like tragedy, so i feel if he had crashed the plane and died it would be so much meaningful. buts its still my favorite book.
I like to think that he has little things hidden in his books, little trinkets to his fans and to those who look for that stuff. For someone who makes his books almost educational with their histories of things like flowers and bombs, it would be no stretch to hide things in his books.
The idea of the hidden pages to me seems just like a way to get people to destroy first edition books; to me this prank would be present in his fans because they are the very same people who read about Project Mayhem, the type of people who would hate the idolatry of a first edition book and an addition ending* over the actual words that make up the book.
Also the idea that he would be able to hide it into a book mass printed just seems a bit, unlikely. Either way this is very interesting and I'm confused as to why no definitive skeptic has looked more into this.
*I would not call the alternative ending unlikely and tagged onto it through other media, it is merely a confirmation. Her predictions are never wrong, and she predicts them together. But also remember that her predictions are always tragic, so they probably get divorced or miscarriage.
perhaps, that shits a secret homie. haha. u ever see that guy that walks around w/ the rearview mirror on his head and a stick?
