Survivor Secret Ending???
I know I sound like a noob, but I have heard about a secret ending of survivor, is it true and if so is there anyway I can find it. Thanks, any help would be appreciated.
By the way just finished it and it is a great book.
Thanks alot glamhoth, I really appreciate it.
I enjoyed that book too but was frustrated at all of the information about aircraft controls - and possibility of jumping from aircraft at various speeds etc. - being plain wrong. Chuck's a great storyteller - I just wish he'd done half an hour of research on the internet about how planes work. I guess it isn't a problem if most people don't notice it.

Ok, I just finished reading survivor. And I just read the hidden ending.
Now can someone please explain to me what Chuck meant about the tape recorder.
Perhaps I dont quite understand coz its 3am in the morning and Im exhausted.
But could someone just basically tell me what really happened?

The narrator tells his 'last words' to the tape recoreder. Then, after leaving the plane together with all the other passengers at their stop, he leaves the tape recorder speaking to the blackbox, as if he himself was there. So that people will think he crushed in the plane.
Ahhh I see!
Very nice
Thanks alot stoyan

Just realised that when chuck was explaining the ending to survivor he said that the bundle of items that the tape recorder was in was mentioned around the 7th page or something similar. When he said this i got a little confused, but realised that he was saying it in the context of how the book is written, being backwards. so page 7 is near the end of the book. Just puttin this up in case anyone else is in the position i was and just didnt want to say.
i think this book has a really good concept

OH SHIT!!!!!!
I think all Chuck's book have a really good concept.
Sanity, the ultimate insanity.
What do you mean the "hidden ending"?
Tear at the hardcover binding in the back of the novel and you find 3 hidden pages depicting how he survives the crash by not being in the plane when it crashes. Very beautiful and ingenius on his part especially as to how he ends up meeting back up with Fertility Hollis. Trust me it is worth the twenty bucks to get a load of that hidden ending.
^Is this for real? Because if I go to barnes and noble and tear the binding on thier book just to find this and its not there and I get forcefully escorted from b&n I'm going to be mad... But I really want to find this so called hidden ending... Ever since I've thought about it and read the book I've always assumed that thier was no definate ending... God this changes my whole life right here! I'm blown! I need to go contemplate this right now....

Um, ditto! I thought hidden ending meant "hidden in the story" not fucking "hidden in the actual book." Crap. Writer me wants to cry gimmick--and would if the novel were not so freaking superb. But adventure game addict, maze junkie, lover of secret chambers me? This is brilliant! And yes I'm willing to lay out 20 bucks to destroy a book.
So is there really a hidden ending or not?
yes theres a hidden ending like he said........theres one in all chucks books so if you can't find it in survivor, try the others. this is actually a very popular practice, trying tearing some of your other books to pieces.
I am so fucking stupid... I didn't get it. I tought he is dead!!!! I am so, so, so stupid... Geez!!!!
Jesus... Everyone just dodges the questions at hand...

This thread still leaves me in stitches.
i am also having problems with the link that was put up here and am very interested to read the secret ending. is there another link to find it??
i'm not sure if this is the SECRET ending but i found where the ending of survivor was explained. here is the link:http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/books/survivor/survivorending.php
I am a new user here, and this is my very first post. Just wanted to say. Anyway, I heard about the extended ending on WIkipedia.
I just heard about terminal velocity and all of that good stuff in Physical Science right as I was reading Survivor. It was werid to see that for one time, Palahniuk's facts were wrong. I do not really care though, he is still such an astonishing author.
its not working!
mine??????works for me
i think my computer is just being retarded then.
JKuhlmann thank you for pointing that out. I'm going to merge the threads.
Ally go back in this thread and look for your answer.

Go here mate and look to the left, you'll see Book Goodies....
Just found out about and read this 'ending explained' and I think it's BS. He dies, end of story.
Really enjoyed the book though.
Well, it's Chuck's own ending, so I think it's not BS, btw did you highlight the green text? That is Chuck's own explanation, and I think it's a great one as it leaves readers (at least me) with the feeling that his whole life wasn't a complete waste or not even his own life. He chose this for himself.

too bad....its worth it to go buy another to see.......btw the bible's "secret" ending is pretty sweet too.
yeah, and apparently its impossible to parachute out of a jet because you would get sucked back into the engines?

I recently re-read it, and the thing that strikes me as clunky about the begining is all the 'what you'd call' lines, where he's going maybe a few beats too far into trying to express how alien this world is to Tender.
Or maybe he was going for, what you'd call a conversational tone. By using what you'd call a character with what you'd call a verbal tick.
As far as research goes, if it's stuff Tender picks up after hijacking the plane, I imagine a well researched beginning would ring untrue.
As far as the impossibility of jumping out, D.B. Cooper did it. The flaw, if there is one there, is that after Cooper and some other famous skyjackers, the industry adopted door locks that are impossible to open while the gear is up (if memory serves, that's the mechanism), so just dropping to 10,000 feet wouldn't do it.
But then, there's no such thing as a chick than can see the future, right?
I think the tape recorder trick explains how Chuck can claim Tender survived, but I really prefer him dead.
It's my favorite Palahniuk novel, no contest, one of my favorite contemporary novels by anyone. I honestly can't think of another book from the past twenty years I've read three times over. And easily his least 'flawed' if you want to get into technical details.
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
I am really curious to see, if the movie ever even does get made, which ending they would go for.
It would be awfully tough to pull this hidden ending off on film, but damn if they got a great director i bet it could be done amazingly, still leaving the question up in the air for the reader/viewer to decide
it would have to have felicity (that is her name in that novel right?) sitting with her child and having a drink or smoke and just watching something about Tender Branson on television and smiling as she catches the time on her watch with a shadow appearing over her. Then fade out and cue in credits.

i checked diary, stranger than fiction, and fugitives and refugees and i didn't see any hidden portion. i'm waiting for someone i know who has my copy of haunted to tear into it and see if there's anything hidden in it, but i don't know if there's something *hidden* in all of his books. although, the back of diary's book cover does say "where do you get your inspiration?" but that's not really hidden....anyone know about the other books of his?

Haunted definately has some "hidden" elements to it, I'm not sure if anyone's actually find out the real truth/ending behind it. Which is weird to because from everything i've read, it's one of Chucks least popular books around here, yet theres still so many questions pertaining to it to be answered.
Stranger than Fiction and Fugitives and Refugees I doubt would have whats considered a "hidden" ending since they're mostly non-fiction books

thanks it has been several years now since i've read that book.

Time to read it again, man.
When we call soccer 'football' the terrorists have won.
well you haven't read the secret ending inside the back binding of the hardcover version of it. Goes completely different.
I think the real true secret ending is Tender is mauled and eaten by a Bengalese White Tiger before he has a chance to jump off the plane.
