Need some imput/help

I am trying to do a book discussion on Survivor and i am a little stuck on the theme/main message of the novel. Its not that i want some else to do my work but i am wondering what other people feel the theme is. There is the whole we are trained to do what we are taught, etc. but i am lost at coming up with any other theme ideas. Thank you for the help
The first thing I read about Chuck was back in 99'. It was an interview in which he answered questions on his three novels (FC, S & IM) and he mentioned that in all three of them he intended to send this message of vulnerability. I'll translate one of his answers (it's an Argentinian magazine, you see)
" My message, I think, is clear. What I try to inspire with my books is a certain sense of mortality, make the youngsters understand that they're not going to be here forever. If I achieve that, I'll be happy. To tell them: "Go ahead. Do what you want with your life. But do it today and not tomorrow." So far I've done it with an insomniac clerk, a mass-media religious leader and a defigured model. It's not much, but it's a begining. Who knows what's the next thing I'll write. Maybe a novel starred by an animal. A talking dog. Something like that."
