chuck's story about the supposed movie possibility was that it was being shopped around to different producers/directors...until 9/11, and "suddenly no one was very keen on a plane-hijacking story." of course, not everyone was so keen on fight club as a movie either. 9/11 was a tragedy, but people need to be able to grasp the differences between what happened there and the movie. i guess it's all about the bottom line, though--people can't grasp differences if they stay away in droves, which they might if they hear the word "hijacking." i guess my interest in a movie of survivor is purely personal, since if trent and chuck--the two people i have altars to at home--ever collaborated, i think i'd wet my pants.

ok, most of that could be cool, but directed by Kevin Smith? Yeah, he makes some funny movies, but as a director is nothing that special.

Now Darren Aranofsky as director would be awesome. But if he did it, you would have music by Clint Mansell. Which would be fine with me because he can do a bad-ass score.

Trent has never "scored" before, so I would be kind of concerned about what he would come up with.

trent HAS scored before. he scored "natural born killers" and was nominated for several awards for it. one of his best songs, "burn", was written for that soundtrack.

yeah you're right though, kevin smith is a strange choice, but i think he could do it, and it would be interesting to see a collaboration between all my favorites. that's basically all i was saying.

Trent didn't score NBK. he arranged a soundtrack. Scoreing is when you do the background music in a film, and usually it is 100% original material. What Clint did for Requiem for a dream was a score...

But it would be interesting to see Trent try his hand at a "real" score. I think it could be successful with the right film. I don't think survivor is dark enough.

But, If i recall correctly, Trent was interested in doing the score for Lullaby.

I want David Fincher to be the director and Jim Uhls to pen the screenplay. It needs to be the same style as Fight Club was. I bet it will get made one day. After another movie based on Palahniuk's work is adapted and successful this one will come back into play.

I think David Fincher should be the director. And I think (if i had to choose) Fight Club(the movie) should never been made, if they really do make Survivor into a movie. I'll tell you why: Ed Norton would be perfect for Tender. Ed's not exactly attractve and Tender is ugly. And Fight Club should never had been made because people would think (if Edward Norton was in Survivor the movie) Survivor was Fight Club 2. Course, as I always say, this is just my opinion. Brad Pitt is god.

I hate to say this but i disagree with you. I have seen all his movies (including 25th Hour which he and Pepper are oscar worthy) and Death to Smoochy is his only bad movie. All his other films are great and he is one of the greatest actors ever and deserves 4 Oscars but too bad he has 0. Damn you Cuba and Roberto....

Oh, man. Them's fighting words. Death to Smoochy is one of the most underrated movies of all time. How can you not be down with Rainbow Randolph? And the Children Televisions Host Groupie Slut? IT WAS HILAROUS AND THE REST OF THE WORLD JUST DIDN'T REALIZE IT AND DON'T YOU DARE SAY, "UM... WILL, IT WAS PROBABLY THE NYQUIL," because it wasn't.

Death to Smoocy was awesome. It touched my heart!

I fucking LOVE "Death To Smoochy"!!!!! It was so messed up and twisted. It brought tears of joy to my bitter, ironic heart!!! I will make *those* cookies for my next party and make people sing the song, too!!!!!

Edward Norton is a creature to be worshipped and adored and admired for the brilliant actor he is... and not just because we share a birthday. Wink

I love "Death to Smoochy"!!! It is so much goodness!! Ed is very good in that one also. He shows depth by taking on a different kind of character. So is Jon Stewart! I love you Jon!!!

*gasp* Danny Divito should direct Survivor!!!

Yeah... I'm liking this... yeah. And they'll retitle the movie, too. It'll be called "Death to Survivor." And instead of wearing all that weird pilgrim pious shit, they'll have to wear purple dinosaur outfits. And STILL walk around being all pious and shit!

That's hot hot HOT!

i love ed norton, but he has made a few stinkers in his days...

Death to Smoochy - a flat out horrible movie.
The Score - A let down on his and DeNiro's part.
Keeping the Faith - Lousy at best.
Rounders - a real snoozer.

otherwise his movies have been great.

Trent also coordinated Music for Lost Highway...and he did do the soundtrack (well music) for the upcoming Doom III.

I cannot wait for Doom III.

never seen death to smoochy.

i know it was several posts back, but i must chime in with my kevin smith opinion: he makes really cool movies(mostly) but usually because of his writing rather than his directing. he is really funny, but visually he is incredibly indistinct.

Directed by Kevin Smith? I used to be a huge fan...but not for his directing style. He doesn't have the greatest sense for visual appeal. David Fincher or Christopher Nolan are two directors that come to mind who are much better DIRECTORS.

Okay, I have the answer. And you all have to help me with this, okay? Because it's really late and I have to get some sleep sometime this week and my head hurts and all that.

And yeah. I have no Nyquil. But still!

Your assignment, if you choose to accept it: Recast Survivor as a movie, using ONLY the characters in Office Space: The Movie. Like, Peter would be Tender. And maybe Milton could be his agent? Shit like that. I think it would be funny. But what do I know?

I once tried to pour Nyquil on my cereal. Hard to eat that way, but still good!

Hey it's my first post, guess I should make it worthwhile. Here's my ideal cast.

Tender: Adrien Brody. Joaquin Phoenix is good too but it sucks that Adrien Brody took so long to surface.
Fertility: Nicole Kidman (wow it's turning into a 2003 oscar party, but more importantly she's more than capable of ACTING the part, keep Madonna the hell away from this movie)
Adam: Joaquin Phoenix if not in the lead, otherwise, I don't know
Agent: Stephen Root (aka, Milton from Office Space or Jimmy James of Newsradio fame, I love this man)
Caseworker: Katherine Keener

Written and Directed by myself. OK, never gonig to happen but I've written screenplays before (full length and short) and I'm learning to direct. Albeit only student films, some are pretty good though, especially compared to what most the people in my class have done. Most importantly, I really love this book. I'd do it for free. I'd pay to get to do this. Taking this randomly off a shelf was one of the best things I've ever done. If I ruined it completely you are all invited to bury me up to my neck and invite everyone who didn't like it to come by and kick me in the head with a steel toed boot.

Failing that, give it to someone very capable like (I list these alphabetically as I have no real preference among them, they'd all be great however different) Darren Aronofsky, Spike Jonze or Olive Stone. Or for something really different that could either be a huge mistake or absolutely brilliant would be Wes Anderson.

Though I'm still available and the financially wise decision (sort of).

Yeah I know I've got no shot but hey, you could show the head kicking on pay per view to recap losses. Anyway, good to have joined the boards. I promise my posts won't be so self serving in the future. Maybe.

i think people, mainly americans cus its who this appplies to, should not forget about the whole 9-11 bit, but kinda let go of it. horrible things have happened through history, and we have moved on, and then made movies about them. the only difference is this time the horrible thing happened to america.
if people couldnt understand that highjacking a plane in a movie isnt exactly a terrorist attack, they need to be shot. no other way to say it.
tender isnt even highjacking it to do any real harm.
dont forget, to the rest of the world, bush can seem like a dictator terrorist. especially to much of the middle east. and dont say what hes doing now is for 9-11, there was stuff america did before that.
i dont support war, im not against fighting, i just think bush should either pull out the big guns or pulll up his pants and stop this pissing fight.

RgG

oh, director - David Cronenberg
tender - jon davis (jon's pretty ugly, and i think he fits the part so well)
adam - jerry o'connel
fetility - estella warren? or deise richards
the agent - tom mc camus

since most of my pics for director have been chosen I want to say I would like to see Harmony Korine do his version of it just for shits and giggles heres the cast:

Tender/Adam - Albino Bulimic/hypochondriatic gay junkie dwarf
Fertility hollis can be played by a fat girl with no arms/legs and a flatuence problem.
The Caseworker- a schischizophrenic tap dancer with lobster hands.
The Agent- scurvey ridden buck toothed spork salesman.

but actually though if you ask me about director, for some reason the name Wim Wenders comes to mind. I wanna see Dennis Leary in Survivor somewhere too, maybe not as tender/adam )though that would rule) or the caseworker maybe as just some psycho chain-smoking guy that shows up and yells for no apparant reason throughout the movie, or maybe he can play Fertility.

well as far as I know the chances of Survivor hitting your locak multiplex are slim to none, I think the rights to choke have been bought, Fincher suppoedly considered turning Lullaby into a movie though it is far, far from being green-lit, I think there is some indie director that wants to do Invisible Monsters, ---but all of these rumors can't really be confirmed for sure, this is only what I have heard...

aight first off Tender: Ed norton always comes to mind because, as everyone said, he is awesome. But also because his narration uin Fight Club was perfect. Truth be told when i read the books Ed Norton was usually the voice I heard narrating it. Brad Pitt would be interesting, because he would be perfect when Tender transforms into like a perfect looking star, and they could give him make up or stuff at the start to make him uglier. I don't know though if he would do a very good job narrating, maybe.
Director: i dunno Dave FIncher, but it might be too much like FC2, someone mentioned Chrisopher Nolan, he would be very cool. Kevin Smith i find intriuging, especially cause he did dogma.
Oh and someone said trent would be iffy because he's never scored a soundtrack before, aren't u forgetting that the Dust Brothers never had? They did an awesome job. Also NIN has, i believe scored for games, which isnt the same thing, but it shows they have some experience.
Lastly, Death to Smoochy. THis movie was good, very satirical. However first off i would've like to see more Robin WIlliams, and second off, i think Death To Smoochy didn't go far enough, it seemed to teeter on the edge of dark, but jump back at the last second, it just was a little tame Unsure. Still Ed Norton kicks ass and overall DTS was pretty funny.

Between Fight Club, American History X, and 25th Hour...the man's a menace. Never saw Death to Smoochy, though.

I root for Richard Kelly, director of Donnie Darko, and USC alumni. And I think Charlie Kaufman should collaborate with Chuck on the Survivor script.

I wonder if they'd be forced to change the title, due to the television gay-ass-motherfucking-sacrilegious series?

Director-Darren Arronofsky would be perfect, he is edgy, stylish, and perfect for dark comedy
Tender/Adam-maybe John Cusack(think of his look in Being John Malcovich, he can do ugly) or Johnny Depp
Fertility-Angelina Jolie
Agent-Matt Damon
Case Worker-i like the Jennifer Aniston idea but what i would really love to see in Jodie Foster

i do, on occasion hear Edward Norton when i read Survivor

Ok, I know I'm getting into this waaaaaaaay to late and that it's not a Death to Smoochy appreciation thread, but...*Takes NexSplbrg and Sypernaut out back to beat some sense into them with a baseball bat.* Death to Smoochy is seriously an amazing movie. Just think about the concept for a short while. The entire world of children's entertainment is RUN BY THE MOB. That alone is funny. Add a great cast, great director, and great dialogue, you've got yourself one kick ass movie. And Survivor should be made into a movie. If only for my entertainment.

I'm gonna be a bit mean but... hey, I was searching for Survivor movie ideas and I just saw that old comment about Trent scoring and laugh a bit. I mean, at last the man won an Oscar doing something "new" in OSTs with his "real" first one xD

(IMHO it was quite clear TR could score since Broken, more since TDS&TF and totally since Ghosts, just needed someone like Fincher to "push" him)
