Fertility's "Evil Job"?
Hey i read over this section multiple times, and i cannot grasp what fertility's "Evil Job" is...
All i know is she has sex with people, is that it? I'm afraid im missing something.

I agree with Giggan. However, I never really made the connection as to why the wife would sit outside the room. If it was prostitution, wouldn't it involve a threesome of some sort or wouldn't go on completely under the wife's nose? I'm new by the way too.
Well it's not really prostituation. I got the impression that she is supposed to be a surigate, but she is secretly infertile, so it's basically just sex. So she is not only just being paid for sex, but s he is knowingly tricking the poeple who pay her.
Yeah and a couple grand seems like a lot, I'm pretty sure they pay her for the.... kid she's suppose to make not really sex.
Yeah, I got that she was supposed to be a surrogate (spelling?), but I also assumed that she only preformed the task due to deception being on her side (by deception, I mean her hiding her infertility for the man siring the child). When she finally was impregnated, she immediately wanted to kill herself. She didn't want another child to be brought into the world having the same psychic talents as its mother. Chuck never mentioned if the child that she was pregnant with was Tender's, and that has been something that I have wondered. Anyway, all in all, Fertility is a dynamic character, and I couldn't picture her having any other evil job .

Very great comments! thanks a lot! but from what i have read on the forums, if you tear open the back of the hard cover book you get the rest of the story. From what i saw on the forums, if i remember correctly, it says she was never pregnant at all.

I wonder how many people we've gotten to tear up their books with that over the years.
Bare in mind, you could also interpret Fertilitys "evil job" as making her predictions that allow other people to die, even though she knows better. For instance, she tells Tender all the bad things that are going to happen, and he tells the world who in turn watch these things play out.And it would feel pretty evil if you knew something bad was happening, yet you could do nothing to stop it.
