because imaginary friends never stop being cool

if youre doing an essay you might want to focus on the writing style of the book and some of the philisophy he presents. maybe show where this ideology comes from (historically) and why it is attractive and allows tyler to build an army of guerrillas.

i dont have fight club on me right now but there are a lot of things you can focus on with the philosophy. i'll try to throw a few out quickly.

destruction -- creation

destruction of self

identity through possessions

recreating identity

giving oneself wholly to a cause, see patriotism

giving oneself unquestioningly to a cause, see fanatacism

following a cause where one cant ask questions, see fascism

aggressive assertions of ideas on others, see jingoism

id also talk about  how these ideas tie into eastern thought because i think the destruction-creation and identity issues have roots in budhism. i think you could do this using jacks haikus as a concrete link.

and im out. i havent read the book in a few years but im pretty sure those are in there somewhere. if you look close. id say those are pretty solid things to hit and shouldnt be too difficult to tie together into a cohesive essay. oh, its also important that tyler loses in the story. so make sure to explain how that effects his theories. think svidrigailov in crime and punishment. or dont.

You know, I think I really like Fight Club for various reasons; all equally important.  Actually, one of these important reasons overshadows all of the other important reasons because this reason is just so much more... multilayered and intellectual, you know, than all the other reasons.  See ultimately, I like Chuck Palahniuk's 1992 novel Fight Club because your mom likes it.

Its so long since Ive read Fight Club I havent a clue what attracted me to it in the first place. Have a good look around and you may find some threads to help you.

I liked Fight Club because the day I read it I didn't have to think about myself and where I was at the time; the next day really sucked.
