Tyler in Maxim
Tyler came in as number 25 on the Biggest Movie Badasses in Maxim this month (November). Go check it out! And read my story on the site! It's called "Later Frank" by J.Donnelly
Outside of a dog, the book is man's best friend. Inside a dog, it's too dark to read.
- Groucho Marx
who was #? the term-ah-nae-tah?
fuck Maxim. it's like Playboy, except they don't nipples. they had an article in there once about the top 64 rules that men should never break, and they were all about the sanctity of football and always putting yourself above women to prove your manliness. this may sound strange coming from, supposedly, a man, but fuck all that uber-masculine compensation bullshit.
I'm thinking maybe another "Men's Magazine" isn't what we need...

very clever, which is hard to do, being clever by semi-quoting Chuck on a Chuck site.
how's that working out for you? being clever?
that line is sig worthy, my friend.
it was indeed clever.
i'd like to see more just plain good magazines, that aren't for men or women or skateboarders or anything else...just a well-written magazine on a variety of subjects.

Wow. This little thread got CRAZY. People telling me to abuse my girlfriend, people showing an alarming lack of respect for women as a whole, people questioning my masculinity in some kind of bizarre machoistic pissing-contest. Hell, I even got called stuffy.
agreed, insomnomaniac
you know what mag.i like, even though many of the articles are geared towards people with good hearts and happy smiles, neither of which i have: Reader's Digest. even though you have to wade thorugh sappy shit geared to convince people that they're not worthless vessels of resentment and bile, you find some pretty blatantly honest articles in there; stuff on general health, world travels, etc, and there's all those Word Power things that make you think a lot harder than Are You A Jealous Girlfriend quizzes and stupid shit like that.
National Geographic, too. i used to love the hell out of that magazine. i can't remember the last time i read a popular modern magazine and either learned something or felt challenged to do so.
i have no subscriptions to anything.
i actually find rolling stone closest to the ideal. sometimes i get pissed off about seeing ppl like christina aguilera on their cover, but their writers are so goddamned good. i esp. like their political and news pieces. often the best in the business, even though they're a music mag.
mother jones is another one that's pretty good, but very political.
i have read a few great pieces and a lot of good ones in RD but in general it has a heavy conservative bias that i don't appreciate. they also tend to publish mass-hysteria pieces pretty blithely, you know, the "Your Kid is On Drugs and Could Be the Next D.C. Sniper!!!" stuff.
Discover is a great magazine, actually. Incredibly fascinating science stories but understandable to ppl like me who are retarded in science and math.
I tend to find myself reading so-called "men's" magazines like Esquire and GQ and Details because unlike women's magazines, these magazines:
1) manage not to insult the intelligence of its entire target audience on a regular basis
2) put celebrities I actually want to read about on the cover
3) contain pictures of gorgeous men, which are strangely lacking in women's magazines supposedly geared toward straight girls.

true.
i dunno, i guess i grew up on RD.
actually, now that i think about it, i can't think of any magazines that i think are worth more than the pictures and the occasional mildly entertaining article.
to me, a magazines sole purpose is to have something to read so you don't feel uncomfortable when you end up in the living room of somebody you just met, or when you're at a doctor's office, or something......
...and yet whenever i end up in the dr.'s office, there's only golf digest to read, which is pretty much the only printed material in english-- even including cereal boxes, shampoo bottles, grocery store circulars, Seventeen, Better Homes and Gardens, Muscle Mania, Danielle Steele novels, and instruction manuals--that I absolutely won't read, even if I'm bored.
