damn. yeah im quite horrible with spelling there insomnomaniac
so at least i know your there to help me out with it!!! and the point iw as trying to get at is that becoming goth, becoming punk, becoming the socially DEVIANT is hip, its in. its the new Abercrappy and Shit group to be in, its "in". and because everyone joined these new groups to become socially DEVIANT and to become unique and different sorta contradicts the whole meaning of socially DEVIANT. hence "sticking feathers up your but does not make you a chicken". joining a socially deviant group because its popular does not make you socially deviant

"You don't choose deviance; deviance chooses you,"? Or more closely, you are made deviant by that which considers itself the norm. The true exiles are the unwanted patriots. Volition to expatriate oneself reveals the ability also to reconform.

Ah, interesting point, you are made deviant by the perception of others. External validation. So a goth isn't deviant to other goth's, but is to a group of fundamental baptists, but not to...etc.etc. There really isn't such a thing as a 'norm' (other than McDonald; "cock")....Sigh... artificial constructions intending to create order... I think we have to stick to a specific definition with the grain of salt understanding. Otherwise, we'll continue down the spiral of identifying the limitations of language and their definitions, and never be able to come to any reasonable conclusion.
I believe 'norm' could then be defined as the most influential and/or majority group. Isn't that the Hispanics now? Smile Big It seems everything I write is a slippery slope. Can anyone else take up what I'm trying to accomplish?

There hasn't been a post in days...maybe the topic's dead...maybe not.
I dunno.
SO HERE'S A NEW SUB-TOPIC!!

Do you feel that the desire to deviate is "born-in," or that it is something that is learned. Do people deviate because of their association with deviants or do they deviate strictly for themselves?

well in keeping with my opinion on the larger issue, i believe that deviance and the desire for deviance is learned. in fact often deviance becomes just another flavor of conformity.
