I have a list of favorite movie obsessions that have faded in and out in the order below.  They all have a common thread.  A.)  How possible they are B.) in relation to how insane you have to be.

The first movie is the Matrix.  The plot is entirely impossible but you only have to be moderately insane to make it work.  The second movie is Saw I-IV.  The plot is entirely possible but you have to be incredibly insane.  Then there's Fight Club (my current obsesssion).  The plot is entirely possible and you only have to be moderately insane (lucky for me I've been working on it for years).  Anyone else inspired towards revolution (or just general mischief) by Fight Club?

It's a book, not a set of instructions.

Fight Club is to me what The Communist Manifesto is to communists.  Nothing more than a book, but you get a clearer sense of where your plans are going once you read it.  See?

I suppose if you believe Dissociative identity disorder is in fact real, then sure, Fight Club is totally possible.

Absolutely.  I tried it.  It is in fact possible to force yourself to go insane.  Trust me, I know.  But, I'm better now Wink

Forcing yourself into insanity is one thing.  Getting a mental disorder that may not even exist is another.

Yeah, there's basically no part of this that doesn't make me clutch my face in horror.

Br0ken: First of all, there is a difference between Fight Club and the Communist Manifesto: mainly that Fight Club IS A WORK OF FICTION and the author has said many, many times that it is so. It has a beginning, a middle, and an end; it has made-up characters; it has a story arc. The Communist Manifesto was written with the express purpose of inciting change in the proletariate and beginning a social revolution. It is a MANIFESTO.

Secondly, just because a book tells you to do something doesn't mean you should do it. Did you also read Mein Kampf and decide that the Jews were holding the Ayrans back? Did you also read To Kill a Mockingbird and believe that you could get away with the accusations of rape against crippled black  men?

Thirdly, even if you can drive yourself insane, why would you want to? I'm going to play the whole "wah wah I have mental illness card", because I do, and also I can tell you, it's not awesome. It's a fucking burden that people judge you by. It's something you have to hide from people in order to get a job, or to earn people's respect. It's a broken part of you. It's not something you should cultivate like a rose garden.

In short, what the fuck is wrong with you?

sometimes i feel sorry for noobs like this one.

they are coming here and expect an army of spacemonkies, dedicated anarchists who are just waiting for a true tyler durden to lead them into chaos. a community  that spends it´s time talking about what you need to build most effective molotov cocktails and what kind of knife you can easily hide in your army boots. they come here, all worked up, with mayhem on their mind. trying so hard to sound all edgy and intense to fit in this dark place here ..

...and then we´re just a bunch of people who love to talk about books, movies and food.

what a dissappointment.

You're breaking my heart here pica! All these years I thought you all were spacemonkies who were talking in some sorta weird code so that your anarchist activities remain encrypted! I've been trying to crack the code for all the threads in GD over the years and now you tell me THIS! OH NOES! I need to find another purpose to my life!

And I set that building on fire for no reason at all? All that for nothing?!
