Did the narrator had a choice?
For some reason. I though while i read Fight Club that the narrator knew since childhood (or around college) how his life would go (boring and meaningless job and life)and pretty much gave up to that since he though there was nothing he could do to change that (until tyler) but then tyler brought all that chaos and freedom it to its exaggeration (the space monkeys and project mayhem). Sorry for being unclear, i think my point is, even with marla and tyler, with the way he was, he really did not have another choice or way for him than the one in the novel?

Did the narrator have a choice.

Dude. Paraguay. Slack. Cut some.
But, yeah, makes me cringe, too.

You think cause he's foreign he doesn't want to know when he's screwing up? We taught g. Tina the difference between my and mine, maybe this guy needs help with have and had.

That's not the way to make friends, Melody. This guy is new. Do you really want the first memory he has of you to be you correcting him? Sometimes you just have to let things go.
I guess whether or not you feel the narrator had a choice depends upon a few things.
If you believe that in the universe in which the story took place, there is an omniscient creator-figure, then no, the narrator has no choices.
If you believe that in the universe in which the story took place, there is determinism, then no, the narrator has no choices.
If you believe in free will within the book universe, then maybe he did. I guess the question is why he chose to do all the things he did. It's a social commentary, so perhaps its a he went along with the herd thing despite his unhappiness and material items not subsiding it.

i assume you mean something like god, right? In that case, no, i don't believe in it.

That's true actually, but it just seemed to me that life was screwed for him from the start, he was already born into an IKEA nesting world, without seeing any other way for his life, which made him an angry and bitter person, which made him listen to Tyler, and so on, kind of that he never had a chance for happines or anything good.
(oh, and ScribblingDes and Tuffy, don't worry about it, feel free to correct me at anytime
, that's how one learns anyway, but i am a little intrigued about why you said "Paraguay" in your post, Tuffy, it was just to signal i was foreign?)

I'm not trying to make friends. and I don't really care what his first memory of me is. And maybe he appreciates the correction. Why is it people get so offended when they get corrected? I don't get offended. It is what it is.
