I think I'm the only person on here that likes Snuff.
Snuff was good, just *not* as good as the others. I found it very interesting in terms of plot-twists and what to expect from the ending.

Nope. I totally agree. Haunted is a little slice of genius, despite the fact that it falls into the category of his "later work."

I wrote a paper for a folklore class about how I think that a "Snow white type initiation process" is at work in Fight Club. Does anyone have any thoughts about that?
or even better, if anyone knows of any articles or discussions about snow white or other fairy tale themes in Fight Club, please let me know. I was supposed to refer to critical sources in the paper but wasn't able to locate any on this topic.
Basically, I said that instead of a story of female initiation as some people suspect Snow White to be, Fight Club is about male initiation through a process that involves banishment, like when his apartment blows up, liminality, like when he lives in the house outside town, and reincorporation and rebirth, which are alluded to heavily in the book when the narrator talks about dying and being reborn through fight club. and the final stage of initiation is when he shoots himself at the end instead of allowing Marla to save him thus asserting his independence/manliness.
any thoughts? I would especially like to hear from anyone who is professor or grad student, published author, or journalist, but any comments by anyone are welcome. thanks
Survivor
Fight Club

Rant
Choke
Lullaby
Fight Club would have been first, I think, if I hadn't have watched the movie first. But when I read Survivor-- it blew my friggin' doors off.

3. Invisible Monsters
4. Lullaby
5. Diary (for a Palahniuk book, I wasn't crazy about this one.)

I'm reading Pygmy currently, and haven't read the rest.
FUBU and KFC have anounced their move to combine forces and fullyn focus on targeting more 'ethnic' audiences. In other news, McDonalds, Starbucks and Wal-Mart have combined to become The United Corporate of America. Moving on...
1. Haunted
2. Invisible Monsters
3. Survivor
4. Diary
About to start Fight Club and hopefully Stranger Than Fiction or Choke.
I haven't read them all, but here it goes:

10. Choke
Choke was alright but man that movie was bad
Really you're ranking the book based on the execution of the movie version?
I liked Choke the movie. Fuck all of you.
Wait a minute, I thought we were an exclusive item Jes.
You didn't get my text!? I explain everything and you'll be okay with it.
I did not get your text. I demand kobe beef now.
I liked Choke, the movie a lot too. But thats because I wasn't expecting a Fight Club quality movie.

My phone's out of battery and my charger is MIA. And you can't demand kobe beef! Kobe beef is gifted.
Hey. You're not as bad as people say you are.
Hey. Thanks.

I never read the 25th Hour book but I loved the movie.
Oh well, as long as I'm here....
1. Invisible Monsters
Eh that's the only clear one, the others mush together. Fight Club and Survivor are good but for me at least, forgettable. I should read them again though. I liked Diary too, but I can't put them in order. Invisible Monsters was on a whole different level though, I love that book.
This doesn't even sound like me. Apparently though, I did like Diary. I'm full of surprises.

Yeah, I remembered this post. As old as I am I do remember some things.
Also I'm beginning to think your kobe beef is really chopped steak.
Survivor is just THE best.
1. Survivor
2. Choke (me first one i read)
3. Rant
4. Lullaby
5. Fight Club
6. Haunted (Not as bad as everyone says. Chuck should make more short story collections, just without the main story to tie them all together)
7. Diary
8. Invisible Monsters (don't see why everyone loves this one so much)
9. Stranger Than Fiction (a cool little look into the real chuck palahniuk)
10. Fugatives and Refugees (I actually ended up using this book when I visited Portland)
Update: 11. Snuff
That book barely passes as a work of literature in my book. No pun intended. I don't really plan on reading Pygmy.
Put Tell All between 10 and 11. It was...eh. But I listened to the audio version and loved listening to that reader's voice for some reason.
I'm not real good at ranking so I'm going to go with top and bottom, best books: Haunted, Rant, Survivor, Choke, Fight club. The middle, lullaby, diary, invisible monsters, snuff, fugitives and refugees. Bottom of the list, stranger than fiction, tell all, and Pygmy is defiantly at the very bottom, I had to force myself to finish it. As far as I know damned is the only one I haven't read, but ill get to it once I finish rereading survivor.

I'm listening to Invisible Monsters right now... I love the book but the audiobook performer sounds like Ellen Degeneres. It really gives a weird feel to the story.
That sounds like it would be terrible.
It's hard to imagine Shannon all peppy and dancing with President Obama.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to say I really liked Choke, the movie, too.
Si vis pacem, para bellum
Oh dear, my boyfriend bought me Snuff for Christmas.
I haven't read Chuck for about 8 years - I hope I'm pleasantly surprised...because me expectations are very low.
Oh dear.
I suppose you might not hate it. Stranger things are theoretically possible.
It was a surprise gift. I'll still read it. I think he is keen to as well. It will be his first Chuck book - will be interesting to see what he thinks!
Yes, it's still a thoughtful gift since you sort of like that author.
People who give good books as gifts can get it. I could count the times that's happened to me with one hand. They give me B&N gift cards or, more likely, girlier things instead. Which are fantastic, why I am complaining.
My point is, your boyfriend sounds nice.
If Snuff is his favourite, it won't be relevant enough. I got it for my birthday last year, even though I specifically asked for anything but Snuff, Pygmy and Haunted (which I already had). It's not brilliant, but it's not his worst either.
Oh dear.
This is why we can't have nice things.
